Chapter 12

Larry remembered the drabness of the third level, one long hallway leading all the way up to the plateau at the top. He hated going down it since the quiet boredom of the third level led to nothing but ambush fights in his mind.

Going up the walkway was even less fun, so Larry used the alternative route and made his own. His Dig was far better than ever before, it felt like he was born for this, which, now that he thought of it, he probably was anyway.

‘No Misdreavus mauling me to death this time around, no Wooper to bite my foot off. This is pure Bliss, just me, myself, and millions of tons of rock enveloping me!’

Larry had to keep close to the walkway while digging because, unlike the gigantic open air of the funnel, he could actually get lost underground here.

His mind drifted from topic to topic, what he’d ask Dwebble when he’d finally meet him, what he’d say to his mother when they met, and if he’d be allowed to leave after meeting his mom. Many more such topics drifted through his mind.

‘What was up with Dwebble anyway, what’s a Pokémon like him doing in Mt. Silver? Sure, Dwebble are Rock-Type, but they’re mostly found in Deserts and on Beaches, not deep inside caves.’

‘Also they’re not native to Johto or Kanto, they’re Unovan. That’s an entire continent away, that must mean that someone brought Dwebble over here, doesn’t it?’

It still didn’t make sense, there was no way he saw for Dwebble to end up all the way at the top of Mt. Silver.

Larry shook his head, ‘This is useless, I’ll just ask him if I find him.’

It was time for Larry to check his progress so he casually peeked out of the side of the walkway walls, but what he saw shocked him.

In front of him the entire walkway was cracked in half, like someone had just straight up taken each half of it and pulled at them, in the middle a giant mound of loose gravel that had fallen out of the ceiling collected itself, the walkway seemed absolutely trashed.

‘I don’t know if someone human-sized could even walk through here, I could barely squeeze through.’

RROOAAAR

Flinching back into the wall for a second, Larry watched helplessly as more loose stone was knocked free of the roof, almost completely sealing the walkway off. At least he now knew who did this, ‘My mom can’t be that far from here, let’s keep digging!’

He dug back into the wall with renewed vigor, following along with the crumbled edges of the walkway to the best of his abilities. When he focused on his sense of touch, he felt tremors run through the ground around him, very faint and weak tremors, but he could feel something immensely powerful stomp around in the caves around him because the rhythm of its stomps resonated in the dirt around him.

The walkway became more and more perilous as he continued, the ground splitting open into miniature ravines at points, large cracks marred the sides of the walkway and Larry continuously found himself reaching a hand outside into the open accidentally because the walls of the walkway simply crumbled as he touched them.

Eventually, he found himself unable to properly use Dig anymore, the walls along the walkway had become so incredibly brittle to touch that anytime he tried to dig through them he’d simply roll out of them into the walkway.

Larry cursed to himself and decided in the heat of the moment to keep using the walkway itself, he knew getting buried by rocks wouldn’t be a death sentence for him and he needed to find his mom as soon as possible. He sat down for a second to take in the state of the walkway further up.

Large swathes of stone had fallen from the walls and roof and the hallway looked to be only still hanging on by a thread because larger stone stuck in its sides propped it open.

‘Holy...I don’t know how many Pokémon were already impacted by my mom's rampage up here, but from the way the walkway alone looks, it's bound to be pretty much every single inhabitant.’ Larry felt bad for not hurrying along quicker, but he also knew that nobody was at fault for this incident.

He took a few calming breaths as he regained some energy, ‘Alright, calm down. I’m probably the only Pokemon here who isn’t in any danger. And I’m also the only one who can fix this, so let's just quickly find her.’

He sat back up and started his march back up the walkway, it was far less energy intensive than digging along the walkway, but it also made him vulnerable and not just because of wild Pokémon. Larry knew he could probably survive a rockslide considering he had rock-hard skin and could just eat his way out, but the human part of his mind still didn’t quite like how many smaller rocks and dust particles were released every time his mom stomped around strongly.

There she is, I can hear it now too,’ he’d only felt it before, but now he could even hear the reverberation of her footsteps echo down the tunnel and he had a general idea where she might be, ‘further up for now!’

Larry finally stopped at a large line of indentations in the ground, large destructive footsteps that had walked down the walkway and into one of the cave systems on the side of the walkway. ‘Nobody else can make destructive footsteps like this! That's got to be a Tyranitar!’ So, he followed along.

The giant steps led along, and he could sense the Rock and Ground TE around the steps now, whoever had made these steps had used some very powerful moves, and Larry could feel it. By now it wasn’t just a noise anymore, he felt the earth bob underneath him, he was close now.

‘Alright, Larry. Acting time, you’re the cutest baby Larvitar ever and your mom will be the happiest girl in the world when she finally sees you, making her completely forget about destroying Mt. Silver!’ He could see her now, the thin, round, and narrow hallway had opened up, to a giant cave with a high ceiling, the edges were dark and dingy, but stalactites and stalagmites dotted the roof and floor of the cave. This was the cave he’d been born in.

Unfortunately, most were destroyed by now, either fallen off the roof and shattered or simply bulldozed over by a walking disaster. In the distance, he could see the cloud of destruction surrounding the creature, the ability Sand Stream creating a small, localized Sandstorm around her. Her steps alone shook the entire cave, Larry found it hard to just walk here, the earth underneath him ebbed and flowed with the creatures' steps, like walking on a trampoline someone was actively using.

‘Woah!’ Larry was left stumbling around in the hopes of catching up to his mother, ‘This is insane! What move is that?! Earthquake, maybe?’

He slowly made his way over, catching himself multiple times from almost falling over. The Tyranitar whose head he could spot obscured in a storm of sand in the distance was engaged in battle with a particularly large Graveler, although it looked to be more of a shoo-in for Tyranitar. His mother fired off another burst of earthquakes before charging straight at the creature.

A monumental amount of energy shot out of her core as she charged forward, a yellow-white cone of Normal-TE began to envelop her, and the air became overbearingly charged with energy. Larry knew what move this move was, Giga Impact. His mother's speed grew quickly, he watched as the lethargic T-Rex-like run morphed into a charge of pure energy, disconnected from any physical running.

When the move finally connected with the Graveler, it was instantly knocked out, getting hit by Giga Impact and launched into the wall behind it. Tyranitar didn’t stop though, as it simply continued its charge using Giga Impact and charged straight into the unconscious body of the Graveler.

Finally stopped, she reared back up, pointed her head to the cavern ceiling, and opened her mouth wide for a roar.

RROOOAAAR

Listening to his mother's victory roar this up close was almost painful, he had made his way over and tried yelling to get his mother's attention, “Mama! I’m over here, you can stop!”

GREEEGREEE

His mother couldn’t hear him though, as another challenger showed themselves to defend the third level of Mt. Silvers caves. Larry knew this Pokémon and unfortunately for him, he might know her kids as well, as a gigantic Crustle sauntered over into the area that the various attacks created.

‘Oh no... This could be bad!’ Larry felt himself panic, he didn’t want to watch his mom fight one of his best friends' moms, so he did something reckless. He jumped in front of the Crustle, “W-Wait! Don’t fight! My mo-”

Before he could even explain himself, he felt himself get attacked. His vision went sideways as he flew backward and into one of the cavern walls, the impact took the air out of his lungs and he coughed up violently as he tried to get his bearing, something had slashed him across the stomach. Luckily his Rock and Ground Typing meant he didn’t feel the hit much, the way the attack launched him backward still took all the air out of him.

“Koff... Koff... Don’t fight!” Larry fought to get air back into his lungs to explain the situation to the Crustle, “My mom is only mad because I ran away, and she couldn’t find me!” Tears rimmed his eyes, “She doesn’t want to do all this destruction! This is all my fault!”

The Crustle only listened, keeping an eye on the Tyranitar that was extracting itself from the cave wall the Giga Impact had crashed it into. When she heard Larry admonishing himself at the end, she quickly turned, “Then calm her down, boy! Or so help me I’ll be forced to do it myself!”

Larry rushed over to his mom's side, she grunted angrily, her core was almost completely empty from the rampage she had been on this whole time and Larry could see her wobbling around unsteadily. She clearly wasn’t in the right mindset right now, only fighting out of sheer hate and vitriol at not being able to find her child.

“Mom! It’s me! I’m here, please calm down and come to your senses!” Larry urged her on as he hugged her leg. He was in his 20s mentally he didn’t know if a bit of cuteness was going to sway his mom, but he was going to need to try.

His mother's unfocused gaze wandered unsteadily, before finally swimming down to him. When it did so, all the anger in her eyes seemed to vanish, “Are... Are you, my kid?” The Tyranitar asked in a slurred and dry voice as she bent down towards him. At this point she must have been rampaging for more than a day, roaring endlessly and using up every ounce of energy inside her body.

Larry immediately nodded and hugged himself tighter to his mom's leg, “Yes, Mom! We never met before! Please calm down and let's talk, ok? I don’t want to watch you rampage around anymore!”

Tyranitar seemed to finally be coming to her senses, as she looked around in shock at the sheer destruction she had wrought, she took in the path of destruction around her, the Crustle sizing her up to defend its home and the weak little Larvitar hugging itself close to her in hopes of calming her down.

Slowly but surely, the sandstorm around Tyranitar died down, the sand particles began leisurely drifting to the ground.

“...Alright...”
