Chapter 2: The Chicken Hero joins the Adventurer's Guild.

And, after walking for about one hour, they reached the door of the town.

And now here’s some information. In the year 1001, Navarre was founded by a group of treat wanderers leaded by Reeldis. Reeldis was a formidable warrior that had fought with a lot of terrible creatures.

He was from the kingdom of Glaldis. Being the son of a noble, he had a life full of commodities, but he wasn't sure about what to do with his life, as he didn't like to be given everything,

So, when he was 18, in the year 985, he decided to leave the home who saw him grew and, with his childhood friend Marckus and a group of other people, he decided to wander through the forest searching the meaning of his life.

In spring of the year 1001, he established in a place known nowadays as Navarre. Some months had passed since they established when something horrible happened: Tolon, a giant lizard-like creature with no eyes was seen near Navarre.

Tolon was an ancient beast, well known among the treants. It could spit fire from its mouth, could see without eyes, and was super-fast. Reeldis, without thinking twice, started to battle with Tolon, aided by his best friend Marckus, who was an archer.

The battle lasted long but, in the end, both friends were victorious. After this fight, Reeldis was known as the beast slayer. And thus, Navarre prosperated because of the efforts of both friends. Now it's the year 1440.

Lucky and Rocky were both listening to this. A treant bard was singing all of this in the streets, and some people, from different races (including slimes, dragos, snowmans, golems and elementals), were listening too.

* That was really interesting. – said Lucky.

* Yeah, it was. – responded Rocky.

* So... Navarre is a town, right? – asked Lucky.

* Well, yes. – replied Rocky.

* Then... Why is this “town” as big as a city? It even has enormous walls around it! This doesn’t look as a town.

* ...Cities are even bigger.

* WHAT?

* Navarre is a commercial town, that’s why... Anyway, let’s go to the Adventurer’s Guild. – said Rocky.

* And what’s that? – asked the chicken.

* Wel... That’s where the national archives and records are and that’s how we’re gonna find your family.

* I see... – was the only thing the chicken could reply.

They kept going.

The “town” was an interesting place. There were many establishments. The structure of some of the buildings were impressive and... Weird. Yeah, they looked good, but the shape of the buildings made you wonder how they were standing upright.

After a few minutes, they finally reached the Adventurer’s Guild. It was a big building, that looked kind of old because it was mostly made of wood, in the center of the town, in front of the only square the town had. They entered.

The first thing they saw inside were the bones of what was supposed to be a dragon, and also other adventurers. Rocky didn’t care about it and went to the counters (where you get attended, were given information and received rewards for missions and such), but Lucky stayed there, looking at it with amazement.

* Amazing, isn’t it? – said one green slime adventurer, with female voice, to Lucky. – This is supposed to be Tolon.

* W-What? Really? – said Lucky.

* Not really. The real Tolon was left inside a cave near here... Anyway, why did you come here? – asked the slime. – Can you show me your Adventurer Card?

* .. My what? – replied the chicken.

* You’re not an adventurer, right? – asked the slime. – So... why did you come here? I don’t think a commoner has much to do here, aside of checking the library or the genealogy archives.

* Well, I came to check the genealogy archives with a friend. – responded Lucky.

* I see. – said the slime. - Anyway, would you like to become an adventurer?

* Yeah! But...

* Mmm?

* What does an adventurer do? – asked the chicken.

* Wel... In my case, I do missions, the ones that are about helping people, who were attacked by monsters or had accidents, and such. Sometimes I enter in dungeon crawling groups as the healer and... Pretty much that, it’s fun and you get paid, but it is kind of dangerous.

* It sounds interesting! – replied the chicken.

* It really is, - said the slime, and, after looking at the clock and the window that was near her, said. – Anyway, I should be going, it is about to rain. See ya!

* Bye!

The slime left the building. And so, the chicken went to where Rocky was. While leaving, the slime though: “She emanated a weird aura... Nevermind, I shouldn’t care about that. I’ve met other people with weird auras that were normal, so it’s not that important.”

The chicken found Rocky, he was standing in line, although it was not too long, Rocky... He seemed as if he was bored. Lucky approached him.

* So you are here. – Said Rocky, and thought: “I’m gonna make her parents pay me for finding their daughter... Doing this is horrible.”

* I’m sorry. – said the chicken.

* For what? – replied Rocky.

* For nothing.

* ...Ok. – responded Rocky, and added. – Anyway, can you give me one of your feathers?

* ...Sure.

* ...If you didn’t know, I’m gonna use it for finding your family, that's why I want one of your feathers.

* I... I already knew that. The feather is for my DNA, right? – said Lucky.

* ...Yeah. – replied Rocky, and thought: “DNA?”

Ten minutes passed, and it was the turn of Rocky and Lucky. The one who was attending was a Snowman.

* Good afternoon, what do you need? – asked the snowman.

* Hello, I want to know the genealogy archives of her. – said Rocky, looking at the chicken. – Here is her feather.

* Ok, wait a moment please.

And then, the snowman proceeded to put the feather in a strange machine, powered by mana. It looked mostly as a computer with a big screen, like a box.

It started to rain softly.

At that moment, Lucky asked Rocky something:

* So... Do you have an Adventurer Card?

* Yeah, why are you asking? – replied Rocky,

* Can I see it?

* ...Sure. Wait, how do you know about that?

* A girl told me about it earlier. – said the chicken.

* I see. Well then, here it is.

Rocky gave her his Adventurer Card. It... It was just a yellowish card which had a lot of stuff in it... And worked almost like a tablet. It had the name of the person, the skills that person had, their stats and level, their class... The only thing that Lucky cared about were these:

Hard Learner: Requires five times the amount of experience points to level up.

* Rocky...

* Yeah?

* Why are you Level 5? That’s a pretty low...

* I know, I know... Ughhh... – said Rocky, and took the card off the wings of Lucky. – See here? This is where your perks are. And mine... The first one it’s not really a perk. It says: “Hard Learner: Requires five times the amount of experience points to level up.” I think that’s because of my race, the Stonemen, whose resistance to every element is high...

Rocky was still talking when the snowman interrupted him by saying:

* She’s not in the National Archives.

* What? – said Lucky and Rocky in unison.

* I don’t really know what to say, maybe she was not registered? That must be, I think, maybe she lived in a small town isolated from all civilization... Just look at her, I haven’t seen anyone like her in all my years working here. – said the snowman.

* I did see a lot of people like her in my short life. – replied Rocky.

* Well then, would you like to have an Adventurer Card? – asked the snowman to our chicken, ignoring what Rocky said.

* I’d like to! – she said.

* Huh? – was the only thing Rocky could say, and Lucky was already doing the procedure to have a card, which first required to write some personal data.

A few minutes passed and the card, which was being created with mana, was finished, there was only one thing left to do: scan the user, with the camera the card also has, for adding their stats in it.

When the snowman scanned Lucky, he... He was really surprised and scared.

* Hey, what’s wrong? – said Rocky to the snowman.

* I-It’s just... Just see! – shouted the snowman.

* Ok! – shouted Rocky.

* W-What is this? – asked Rocky, and added. – Her main stats are maxed!!! Except her purity, I wonder why... (Judging eyes.) And her perk is... Is not too common, I know few people who have that perk.

* But... Why are her derivative stats that low? She doesn’t even have MP! – said the snowman. – And she doesn’t even has a class, she’s still a freelancer... This is strange. Anyway, you’re an adventurer now.

* Ok... I didn’t really know what you were talking about but... – the chicken was saying, but a rumble was heard outside.

* What was that!? – shouted Rocky.

All of the adventurers went outside to see what was happening. Our chicken and our... rock went outside too.

Outside, in the middle of the destroyed square with a few victims, a giant humanoid being, with blue skin, horns and black wings that emanated darkness, was standing there, menacingly.

* What is that thing? – asked the chicken calmly to Rocky.

* I don’t know, why do you ask me? – replied Rocky.

The other adventurers were preparing to attack that creature, some with their weapons and others with magic spells, when the creature spoke, with a horrible voice:

* So... This is where the Hero is...

The monster approached a group of four adventurers, who were two treants, a fire elemental (a fireball with eyes) and an ice elemental (a crystal with eyes). They were in front of the door of the Adventurer’s Guild. Our protagonists were there too, few meters away.

Those adventurer attacked the monster mostly with magic (because three of them were Priests and the fire elemental was a Mage), but their attacks did almost nothing to it.

The monster, suddenly, punched the floor, causing a small quake. That group was defeated easily.

* I’m sorry, but you were getting in my way. – said the monster, and approached Lucky and Rocky.

Rocky was scared, but his facial expression didn’t say anything about what he was feeling in that moment. The chicken was calm.

* This aura... – said the monster, while charging something in its right hand. – You are the Hero. When the Dark Lord said something about a light that came from the sky I couldn’t believe it. But now... You’re still at Level 1, but you’re dangerous... I need to kill you right here, right now!

* What? – was the only thing the chicken could say at that moment.

The chicken was sent flying by the Overcharged Blow. The rest of the adventurers were just seeing, because they knew they could do nothing against the creature.
