Curiosity killed the.....what?

In the town of OvanKa, a middle aged man lived. He is handsome, charming and charismatic. He has always been good with people, got what he wanted every time. His name is Alexander, but his friends call him Alex for short. Despite his charming demeanor and winning smile, there's always been something about him that seemed slightly off to those who knew him well. He was always just a little too eager to please, and his eyes held a hint of something darker, something that made people wary of him even as they laughed at his jokes and accepted his gifts.

One night, at a party with his friends, he heard a hushed conversation. Normally he would ignore this, there's no benefit, but for some reason he couldn't help himself that night. When Alex learned about a mysterious educational institute, he was immediately intrigued. It sounded like the sort of place that could satisfy his insatiable curiosity and give him a rush like nothing else. For five months, he searched the area, determined to find it no matter what. He used all of his connections, but the closer he got, the more heavily guarded the area became. He tried multiple times to breach the defenses, but he was always caught or almost caught, and he began to fear for his life.

This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.

Then he heard about the visit to the undisclosed location, and he knew he had to go. He used his connections once again to get on the list of valued personnel, and he separated from the group to explore the area. He saw things that he never thought possible, and his mind raced with the possibilities of what he could do with this technology.

But then he saw the students on the monitors, and something about them gave him pause. He felt a sudden pang of guilt for wanting to exploit this technology for his own gain, and for a moment, he even considered backing out.

But then he touched the Project BREAK beads, and everything changed. He saw something unspeakable, something that filled him with terror and dread. He knew he had to get out of there, and fast.

When he woke up far away from the institute, he felt relieved, but also terrified. He didn't know what had happened to him, or what he had unleashed. But he knew one thing for sure: he had to find out everything he could about that place, and about the thing that had marked him.

And so he dragged himself back home, with the mysterious object clutched tightly in his hand. Little did he know that his search for knowledge would lead him down a path from which there was no turning back, a path that would bring him face to face with the darkest parts of his own soul, and with something far more sinister than anything he had ever imagined.
