This is not quite a hiatus announcement. It is very similar, but not the same. It’s to the point where I’m probably going to mark the story as ‘HIATUS’ anyway, just to avoid confusing people.

I am in love with the concept I have for The Speck and its world, but I’m also realizing that a lot of what I want to do is beyond my current skill level.

I want to make this story into a masterpiece, and first attempts rarely ever are.

What does all this mean to you, the readers?

Well.

It means that I’m going to be taking a less active approach to this story for a while. I will still respond to comments, may rewrite chapters or make minor edits to refine the story further, but uploads will be sporadic at best.

I will probably only be writing additional chapters for TSoD when feeling particularly inspired.

When will I return to actively writing this story?

You could be reading stolen content. Head to the original site for the genuine story.

When I have more experience. Ideally, I’ll come back in a year or two with much more writing experience and a more solid handle on the story.

But how will I get experience if I stop writing?

By writing other things. There are ideas I have for this story, this world, that I think are awesome. Unfortunately, They don’t fit into the story yet — it just hasn’t progressed that far, and a murky, nebulous path of trial and error stands between me and that time.

I’ve decided to get those ideas out onto a page instead of waiting impatiently for their time to finally come.

I’m going to try my hand at all sorts of things. Mostly fantasy, but some stuff might outside of even that.

I want to get better at writing, and start to actually develop and grow into my writing style. As I’ve mentioned before, my only experiences prior to The Speck were short stories and poetry. I like to think I became a decent poet, but too little of that knowledge transfers over to writing a book for me to be able to do this story justice.

So you’ll see me upload at least one new fiction in the near future. I’m going to cast my net and see what I can pull up from the sludge.

TL;DR?

The Speck is going on hold for now; I’m going to try something brand new and come back to this when I feel ready. I hope some of you will be interested enough to stick around to watch the show.
