As soon as my words left my mouth, I felt some ethereal force begin to gather around me. It was awe inspiring and frankly a little terrifying. I had no idea what was happening, I could only guess this was the energy of the universe, mana, if I remembered correctly. I started to breathe heavier as I felt an intangible force settle around me with immense pressure from all sides. My consciousness was locked into place as a body slowly started to form around me.
“Your new body will form according to your will. This will be the body you will grow into as you age until you reach the age of maturity, then you will stop aging for eternity. There is much you need to learn about your new home and we have decided the best way to do that is for you to experience the world for yourself. Fear not, for all your memories will remain intact.” the entity across from me intoned.
“You will be born to a family of commoners on the planet of Festidia, where you will learn all you need to know about your new life. Your father will be an adventurer who battles against monsters and magical creatures to safeguard civilization. Your mother will also be an adventurer, but she will be a magic user who focuses on healing and enhancing the abilities of her party. They will teach you how to gain strength in this new world. Finally, beware the Gods of Festidia, while our ultimate goals align, they will seek to use you for their own purposes as well.”
With that proclamation, the entity left me alone, floating in the vast nothingness I was currently in. In its place there was a full body length mirror that showed what was happening to me. The mana continued to coalesce at my farthest extremities and slowly worked its way up my body. As I focused on my reflection, the skin color changed based on my whims. I tried a blue skin tone and it looked really odd. Eventually I settled on an creamy skin tone with plenty of freckles. I focused on my eyes and decided I wanted a nice set of emerald green, and sure enough there they were. It was a little disconcerting changing so rapidly but I got the hang of it and focused on crafting my new body.
An indeterminate amount of time later, I was finally happy with my new body. I stared into the reflection of a female figure around 6 foot tall. I would have a very athletic body, like I did in my previous life. However, this time I would keep my curves, that was something I had always regretted about my old body. My emerald orbs stared towards my head and I saw long, wavy, fire-red locks flowing down to the middle of my back. I played with the idea of growing horns or having elf like ears, but I decided to stick with being a human for now. It was after all what I was most comfortable with and if the Keeper was to be believed, I would be able to craft a new body the next time I died. That thought made me shudder as I realized what I had truly gotten myself into.

After taking a few minutes to wrap myself around my new life, I decided I was okay with it. Sure, it would take some getting used to, but it honestly sounded a little exciting. From what I understood, monsters and magical creatures would be a thing here. I could adventure and discover new and magical things on this new world. I was finally ready to begin.
As if summoned by my thoughts, the Keeper appeared before me again. It looked me over, nodded as if satisfied and raised a hand towards me.
“With this complete, we are now bound. Your objective will be to get stronger and prepare for the invasion in 30 cycles. We will meet again after the invasion has been stopped. Good luck my champion.”
With its pronouncement, I was unable to utter a response before the area around me went completely dark and I could no longer sense anything nearby. The next moment I could see a bright light at the end of a tunnel and I felt walls pressing against me as I was being pushed towards the light. It suddenly dawned on me what was happening and I silently cursed the entity who decided to put me through this while I was self-aware.
As I popped out with a final push, I notice how bright everything was to my infantile senses. All details were blurry and I could only make out vague humanoid shapes and colors. Slowly, the world came into focus and I could see clearly. A lady in a nuns habit was currently holding me and cleaning me off with a cloth. When she finished, she first handed me to a man with a great bushy beard who smiled brightly down at me as he walked towards another person. When I saw her, I knew instinctually this was my mother. I could feel the raw love radiating from her and I returned it unconditionally. I burbled a bit and reached out for her. The bearded man, who I now knew was my father handed me off to my mother and knelt by her side. They gazed at me adoringly and he asked her.
“What shall we name her my darling?”
I was a little interested in knowing what I would be called in this new life, but what really surprised me was that I could understand their speech. I could tell they weren’t speaking English, which was the language I was most fluent in back on Earth, but it seems I was born with the ability to understand my parents’ native language.
My mother smiled down at me and spoke the name I would henceforth be known as across this universe and beyond.
“Lucelia. We will call her Lucelia.”
It was only then did I realize I couldn’t remember my old name. I had spent 47 years on Earth before my life was ended, and yet I could not remember what I was called. I mentally screamed at the entity who told me I would retain all my memories. If I couldn’t remember my old name, what else had I forgotten? It was with this heavy thought that I, Lucelia, began my life in a new world.
