The beginning

15 years later

"Amu" called the maid from afar. As she pulled the heavy curtains open a boy turned around in his sleep. This boys was normal in everyone's eyes and as to show this was true, he lived as a normal teenager, just, in a palace

"Amu, you must get up, his highness is waiting for you in the throne room" cried the maid in a hushed voice.

"Yeah, yeah, he only wants to see me to see if I have any powers yet." The boy sat up and pulled his long white hair up. He looked around at the room filled with goods from every land, paintings of faraway lands and the best wood money and jewels could buy for his bed, desk, drawers and other things he had no use for.

He stood up, rubbing his eyes as if to wake himself up as the maid clothed him. He thanked the maid and walked away down the overly decorated corridor.

Looking up at the large oak door at the end of the ridiculously long hallway he gathered his breath and knocked.                                       "Come in" echoed a loud voice through the hall. Amu slowly pushed the door open and while correcting his posture he entered

"Amu" the man called, "how nice to see you" he said I a slow mocking voice. "I trust you've been well?"

"Yes, Lord Brother, thank you for you're concern, however my powers still have not managed to manifest, I worry that I may have none at all" Amu calmly stated. The man looked at him with great displeasure and ruffled his thick brown hair

The man grunted with displeasure and his large almond coloured eyes bore into Amu trying to work out something but clearly not succeeding.                                 "Yes, well I have always expected that you would turn out bad, I mean look at yourself" he boomed "You're hair is bad enough but you're eyes are just scary, how can anyone have eyes that change colour. If you weren't a member of this family you would have been burned many years ago"

Amu sighed, he had always loved his eyes, even if they did give away his true feelings; blue for calm, red for angry, black for sad, green for longing. However thanks to his brothers displeasure for them he had always kept them hidden under brown eye magic, the same colour as his brothers. This conversation had happened many a time before therefore He knew what would come next.                                  "Amu, please let the maids cut and dye your hair, it's unnatural and unattractive. You shall never get a wife like that and all the people of this kingdom shall continue being scared of you"

This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.

"Lord Brother, I do not mean to take a wife for a few years and I get on plenty well with the people inside this castle and any I meet outside it, if my power does develop I'm sure it will in a few days as it will be my seventeenth birthday soon."                             "That is true, however you have been saying that for the past few years, it makes one wonder whether you truly want you're power to manifest," the man stood up and walking down from his throne he came towards his younger brother.                          "I will release you're eyes from the magic they are under and I would like you to answer me this, do you really wish for you're power to manifest" the man then took his hand and placed them over Amu's eyes then after a few seconds he pulled them back, pulling a brown liquid it's them.                           "There, now answer my question" he demanded.

Without knowing what to say Amu stood there silently, the conversation had never taken a turn like this before, he knew his brother must be serious as he was the one who placed the magic when there father died claiming his brother to be abnormal. Though it was not a difficult magic it was complicated and Amu did understand that it must of been hard for his brother to do at the age of 7, even if he could do it when he was a lot younger. It was this that made Amu seriously think about whether he really wanted a power, sure most of the kingdom had some sort of small power whether it be the ability to pull small objects to them or to make crops grow a little faster however thanks to the dragons, his brothers had always had the most powerful magic and except from him they had especially powerful specialities.  "I don't think I mind to much either way" Amu stated after thinking hard.                                           "I mean, I have magic that is the most powerful in the kingdom, no, in the world, I just have no specialty"

His brother sighed and said in a calm informing voice. " I have been under a lot of pressure lately about this, the other brothers believe I should just abandon it and tell the kingdom that you were killed saving both the dragons and you from further humiliation, however I do not believe this to be the best course of action. So, we came to a conclusion, if you're powers have not manifested by the day of you're seventeenth birthday we shall disown you as a prince of this country and we shall tell the world you were poisoned by the dragon hater faction"
