Chapter 23

Before any of the fun can begin, we had to put away the groceries. Like a rebellious teenager, Brian hopped off the wagon at the first opportunity and went to stand at the door waiting for someone to unlock it. I waved Willow and Charlee off when they tried to grab anything. I went to the last wagon and untied the horses, then molded a stone pillar in place and tied the horses onto it.

I then hopped back onto the lead wagon and drove the train to the southern side of the house where I had a garage entrance to my workshop on the first basement level of the house. I want to eventually make a modern style of garage door but for now it was just a sliding door like on a barn.

As I looked around my lightly furnished workshop I came up with a clever idea. instead of unloading everything, I should just mold the wagons into shelves. With that plan now set, I waved hopped of the wagon. Doing my best Jedi impression, I waved my hand and all of the wagons unlatched from each other.

Stretching out my right hand like I was grabbing something, I picked up the last wagon and set it next to the wall. Spending some more of the energy in my well, the wagon slowly morphed into shelving. I modeled it after the sort of racking you would find in a warehouse with uprights and wired decking that sat on beams.

This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

Everything seem to be taking shape and the actual material usage was lower then what I had expected. The iron from just one wagon was able to make roughly 3 uprights, 8 beams and enough decking to cover all of the beams with some to spare. Of course, I had added in some of carbon I conjured up to make it into steel. I don't remember the exact composition, but I knew it was around 2%.

Just as I was finishing up, one of Brian's saddle bags started to tumble off the racking. I’m not sure why I didn't use kinetic energy to hold the bag up but instead I started to absorb. As I did so, the bag stopped in midair.

Now I have been thinking about absorbing matter into energy directly and when I tried it failed. I also have theorized that I can use my energy to excite the molecules in matter to the point where everything separates back into energy, i.e., a nuclear reaction. Risking death by nuclear fire is not a risk I want to take at this time and so that idea will need to be shelved until a later date.

I didn't think of it before as energy and so I never even tried to absorb it, but gravity is all around us. It's always exerting its influence on all matter and is the main factor virtually all the kinetic energy around us. I’m no physicist but I do understand that the saddle bag had potential energy while on the shelf and as it was falling, that energy was expressed as kinetic energy.

Now that I realized I can absorb the gravitational energy around me, I spread my mage sight to its maximum which seems to have grown to somewhere nearing half a mile. I drank in the energy deeply and channeled it into my well. That's when my head exploded, and everything turned to darkness.
