Chapter 11 – A form of Enlightenment

Rahkim sat in his room in utter silence as he held his skeletal hands out in front of him watching the black lights dance around them as he channeled from his Life Well. Though he was silent there were countless thoughts racing through his mind as he tried to recall the feeling that casting magic left him. Every now, and then he would start to build the circle for Ice only to stop, letting it collapse into life energy before dispersing completely.

'It is almost like I'm calling on something, not just Life Energy, but something … far greater. It's like a concept, a forced form of something … but what?

My understanding of 'Ice' seems almost phantasmal, it feels like what I know is just a drop of knowledge in an entire endless ocean of truths behind it. Not only that, but now that I contemplate it the fact that I can use my understanding of 'Ice' to form a spell seems impossible, I can't even control it like this …. The thing I cast is simply a pale shade of the true concept that I am bringing forth to run rampant.'

Once again Rahkim turned his concentration back to observing the black light as he hurriedly began to form magic before letting it scatter. He seemed to have fallen into a trance as a circle slowly etched itself into the air only to collapse before another circle followed it. Form, release, form, release, form, release. It was just a mindless cycle but the two faint balls of fire that formed Rahkim's eyes began to shine brighter as he performed the actions over, and over.

This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.

Suddenly Rahkim paused before stretching one hand out and allowing the black light to surge outwards to rapidly form the magic symbol for Ice again. Rahkim's voice broke the silence as the circle shined brighter,

“Ice.”

Once again the familiar magic began to take shape, but unlike previous times a single strip of the air in front of the circle began to ripple before snow formed and began to drift to the floor below. Shortly after the air rippled again before suddenly seeming to freeze solid in several places causing six fist sized chunks of ice to crash to the floor.

Where the ice chunks fell they shattered, but Rahkim's focus was on the floor around them where snow seemed to lightly cover the area. Rahkim began to laugh as he spoke his thought's allowed,

“I guess recognizing flaws can be a form of enlightenment! I released control of the circle too soon, though I can cast magic by releasing the symbol after it forms I lose my ability to control where it occurs, and the circle has nothing to guide its use of Life Energy causing it to waste some. Though this way requires more attention it also allows me to use 'Ice' more ...”

A bit of a short chapter I know, but I felt this is where it cut off best. However, since this chapter is short I'll also be posting another thread that will have some more basic information on the setting to try and make up for it a bit.
