She waves her hand at me from across the road, and I smile. She started crossing the road and I don't know how, but a car came racing across the street towards her and in a moment everything changed. I see her lying in the road with blood everywhere. I run towards her. I hold her head and place it on my lap and make the emergency call for ambulance on my phone...
She is not moving, but her eyes are open. For a moment I couldn't breathe, all I could think of all the things I may have done to prevent the accident, and lots of what ifs. She coughs and I feel hope. Hope that maybe everything will be Ok.
Me: "You can't leave. You just can't leave me like this. I love you. Do you hear me, I love you. I am so sorry I couldn't say it to you earlier. I was so afraid to what you will say, but you can't leave me like this... "
She loses her consciousness. I shake her, but she doesn't open her eyes. A few moments later, the ambulance arrives and I lift her body to the stretcher and get into the ambulance with her. I keep holding her hands so that she won't feel alone.
She is taken to the ICU when we reach the hospital. After several hours, the doctors notify us, she is stable now and is conscious, but may not remember everything and may need time to adjust. I went home because her family and relatives were already there and I thought to give her time with her family first.
I came to visit her next day, and sat next to her. I push back a stray of hair from her head to behind her ears.
Me: "How are you doing? You gave me quite a scare."
She: "I am glad, you were there to save me. I don't know if I would be alive if you weren't there."

Me: "Don't worry, I can't let you go from this world before torturing you for all those times, you caused me so many problems at work. Anyways, I said something to you after the accident before you lost consciousness. Do you remember?"
She: "No, but I guess it would have been related to the torture you just talked about."
We both smile.
Me: "Something like that."
I bid her farewell and left for my home, a little heart broken knowing that the one time I found courage to tell her about my feelings and she can't remember it.
One year later...
It's been almost an year since the accident, but still when she goes out somewhere, I get nervous about it. I am about to open the door to the conference hall, when I hear her talking to someone...
Woman: "How have you been these days?"
She: "I am good. I have a few scars, but otherwise I am alright."
Woman: "How's your memory? Do you still have some memory blanks from the accident?"
She: "No. After the accident, I was unable to recall a few things but in the next few days, it got better. I remembered everything. I am fine now."
I froze. I cannot believe what I was hearing. It's like the time has stopped moving, and this moment is on playback again and again in my mind. I have asked her so many times in the past year, if she remembers anything else from the accident, but every time she denied. Each time she lied to me about it.
All this time she knew. I closed back the door quietly and went to the terrace. I called my best friend to talk.
Me: "She knew. She knew how I felt about her for about an year, but she never said anything, because she was embarrassed, because she didn't feel the same about me and thus she lied to me..."
He : "What can you do? You can't force someone to love you. Neither can you wait forever. Let's leave. Let's wrap our things here and work somewhere else. We already have gotten offers from so many other companies and with much more pay and much more benefits."
Me: "No, no, no. This job is not about her. This is my passion, I put my time and energy into it. I'm not willing to let it go."
He: "Love is not a switch. You can't just turn it off. You can't work side by side and not feel anything."
Me: "Watch me..."
