Good day, my name is Lucas Lafayette Marie-Joseph Moses David Berger LaVoie, they call me 'The Shepherd'; this is my story, or at least a few details about me.
I have done many things, some are good and some are evil.
I have been brought here, as a weapon, as a tool, yet I changed the Civilization known as Fiercœur. I made it even more powerful after it tore itself apart so many times. Not only that, I fended off foreigners like a Shepherd killing Hunters that attack his sheep. They call me a Shepherd, they call me as their light, they say I am the way given to them.
But how did I get here? I will tell you the story of my life, some parts of it.
It is the 14th of July, Year 2000. My family was in vacation in Paris, and it happened to be Bastille day. I was born, the oldest child, with my younger sister Lucy, my younger brothers John and Paul. There is nothing special about me, except for the fact that I have Quechua, Seminole, Himalayan and most of all, French blood despite being in an American family. Was I born on Bastille day because of something I have or will do? I do not know.
Nothing was special about me when I was young, yes, I am the largest person in my family and schoolmates, but people did mistake me as someone who is actually older than I am.
My classmates would often go to me when they got bullied, especially when I was in middle and high school. They know I don't like bullying and I make bullies run away from me as I studied so many martial arts as a hobby, it is part of being better, learning and being better is my passion. They call me things like "the tough nerd", "the Frenchman who makes other surrender" or "peerless scholar", because I study things like equations, martial arts and languages as a hobby, one could even say it is my passion. Not only that, I was protective of my friends.
Like everyone around me, I am not perfect. I have shown lack of remorse to people who have betrayed me. Believe me, there were times when I am proud of being disrespectful.
People come to me for help and will leave or worse, get rid of me anyway. Here is one of those moments, my classmate Erwin said to me when I was on the Seventh Grade: "Lucas, you may be the best student in the class but you are useless for anything else other than fighting bullies. I prefer being alone than being with you."
I asked him: "Why? I helped protect you and your friends."
My other classmate Hans said: "You are a bad leader. All you do is order us around or fight those bullies. Not to mention, you are always serious and can't take a joke. Even the smallest of mistakes we do is enough to piss you off."
"You can go on without me, I do not need you," I told him.
What I did not know is that Hans and Erwin are bullies themselves, or at least they want to become one, no one bullied them because of me. However, they wanted to bully younger kids or girls without me knowing, they made me think that they are good people, no wonder they told me I was a bad leader. They managed to trick me.
One day, I saw them bullying a classmate, she is the shy girl in my class.
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
"Give us your money Pearl, or we'll beat you up!" Hans said
"N-no, this is mine, I'm just minding my business, I'm buying my food 'cause I haven't eaten much earlier. Please leave me alone." She told them.
"We don't care! Give us all of your money, even if all you have are pennies!" Erwin shouted at her, as he his about to land a hit.
"Enfoiré! Arrêt!" I shouted as I lost control of myself.
"This Frenchman is mad again... He doesn't even know what he is saying." Erwin said. "Get lost you surrender monkey, we can hold our own against you. We already told you that we don't have a need for you. You'll regret fighting us." Hans said.
"Lucas? Why are you here? Why are you mad at your friends?" Pearl asked me. I responded with silence, the next thing I did after being silent is to attack Erwin.
"Ouch! That hurt! Wait, are those my teeth?!" Erwin shouted.
"You useless bastard! Take this!" Hans told me as he attack me.
"Lucas, stop!" Says Pearl.
"Non, je refuse! C’est pour vous!" I said before I attacked Hans.
"Stop that nonsense Lucas! No one wants you to speak Fren- Ah! My eye! It hurts!" Hans said.
"Hans, let's get outta here! We should not have fought him at all! For a middle school kid, he is already the size of those high school guys." Erwin said before both of them ran.
"Are you alright?" I told Pearl.
"Y-Yes. You can have some of my money if you want." She said.
"No, I do not need your money. I will be going after them. Here's ten dollars for the trouble!" I told her. However, when I searched for those two bastards, they were nowhere to be found.
Metaphorically speaking, if I were to be a "Shepherd", Pearl would be my first sheep. We befriended each other, nothing more than that.
I would soon find others to be my friends, one of which came into the Army with me, a man whose family immigrated to the United States from Japan, Akira Fujimoto. I never met Pearl after high school, until a few years later.
When I was being trained alongside him, we stayed together. There was nothing much to tell you. He mostly won in the martial arts training when he spared with other recruits. I was the only one he did not defeat.
In boot camp, we would often talk about how would history be like if some things did not happen. What if Napoleon never invaded Russia, what if the Japanese never isolated themselves? That was our hobby, and some other recruits would join too.
Out of all the recruits, they said that I am the strangest one. I would often walk around, and I would sing La Marseillaise, Chanson de l'oignon, My Country 'Tis of Thee, and America the Beautiful when I have nothing else to do. If not, I end up discussing Fantasy story ideas with other recruits. This is when we met a new friend John O'Connor.
We found one thing that we liked, writing stories. He writes some short stories that could be said to a child before going to bed. But I plan to write a novel for fun.
Me, Akira and John would also be deployed withing the same unit, and we were deployed in Camp Zama. There was nothing much to do there, other than to talk with Japanese people outside of that place.
When I reached the rank of Sergeant, I decided to become a Drill Sergeant myself. John decided to retire and Akira did the same.
To my surprise, my Drill Sergeant gave me a lesson, I learned how to lead better. I can now prove those bastards wrong.
However, something unexpected happened, I met my childhood friend Pearl once again in my life. I do not know why, but she enlisted at the age of 25.
"Private, why did you enlist?" I asked her.
"To serve my country while providing for my family sir!" She replied. I responded with silence, as I did when we were young. She most likely said that to impress me and the other Drill Sergeants.
Unexpectedly, she sent a letter to my mother, who I still live with.
"Lucas, come here for a second." My mother told me.
"Mom, what is it? What do you need my presence for?"
"Remember Pearl, the girl you saved from bullies and your childhood friend? She sent me a letter."
"Yes I do mother. I remember her. I was surprised that she is even in the army." I told my mother.
"Look at the letter, son."
"Dear Miss Marie B. LaVoie and Mister Joseph F. LaVoie
Today, I am now a recruit in th US Army. I only wished to provide for my family. But please, I want you to know something. Your son, and my childhood friend Lucas is now one of the Drill Sergeants who is now training me. I wish to make him proud for what he did for me. I want to repay his kindness and acts.
That is all.
Sincerely,
Pearl S. Brown"
I put the letter down.
"Mother, I am impressed with her resolve. I wanted to thank her, for being such a good friend. I owe a lot to her, just as much as she owes me for helping her." I told my mother.
"Alright son, be sure to train her properly." My mother told me.
That is how my life was before the People of Fiercœur took me to help themselves, before I passed on the knowledge of battles that happened a thousand years ago here on earth.
