CHAPTER 3: MEETINGS PART TWO

PART 2

In front of them stood a large castle that was breathtaking yet ominous. Most of them were taken back by the sheer size of the building but also wary of the traps laid behind the façade. One could their comrade's heart-pounding knowing that the final fight was here. If they failed then all humanity was lost. People looked for motivation from one another but nobody was currently offering any.

“We are the final line that will protect the human races. If we fall here then all humanity has fallen. Men and women are you willing to fall and die in unknown grounds without a proper burial,” the hero, Fidelis shouted.

“No,” the armies shouted in unison.

“If you are not willing then do what must be done,” he shouted back in response.

Those words that Fidelis has spoken to them gave them the motivation to carry out the deed. Even though it was their death march they swore to make it their most memorable death march.

As they approached the gate, they found it wide opened and though there were signs they were already trapped they continued walking.

Just when the Atut had walked past the gate a bright white flash enveloped the area and when it was gone the goddess was missing and each group was teleported to a different area.

Todd the Magician commander of the Elves found himself in an open grass field together with some of the armies of humans and dwarfs. He tried to look for viable escape roots but his eyes could only see the vast grass field which was never-ending.

“Illusion cancel,” he chanted but nothing visible changed.

It was either the magic was beyond his level or this was simply not magic but reality. He started looking around and thinking for solutions but his thoughts were interrupted by the growing sound of several footsteps.

Heading towards them were a dozen beings heading towards them. By looking at them one couldn’t tell whether they were men or women as their whole body was covered by rusted armour that had no heads. He tried casting analyze magic but was only answered by symbols and letters which held no meaning to him.

“Divine aura, heavens blessing, increased mana,” the priests behind Todd started chanting after assuming that the headless armours were evil beings. The chant caused a pleasant feeling to envelope everyone as the magic chants had already started their effects.

“Flame arrow,” Todd chanted as he rushed towards the first armour. A flaming arrow flew towards the armour in front of Todd and landed a hit on its chest which caused it to stagger back and shortly behind was Todd who unleashed several sword strikes just where the arrow had landed.

The armour stagged but when Todd unleashed another sword strike it parried and delivered a knee strike to Todd. Todd was now caught unaware and he changed his sword position to block the knee strike. This left his sides open and the armour tried to land a hit on his left side with its sword.

“Stone shield,” Todd chanted.

This caused a lump of the earth to rise between him and the armour effectively blocking the sword strike. The sound of metal hitting stone assured Todd that its attack was blocked which caused him to relax for a second which was fatal.

What followed after the block was a huge fire javelin heading towards Todd.

“Mana shie…,” Todd tried to chant.

However, his chant was too late and his shield of mana which was in the process of being created was pierced and destroyed with the aftermath sent him flying past the other soldiers.

The javelin flame had destroyed his shield and also burnt his hands which left him with burnt hands. He tries holding his sword but his hand quickly let go of the sword due to the pain.

The human priests who were dressed in traditional white attire started chanting large-scale healing magic for their allies. But before they started Todd saw several flashes pass in front of him and he looked towards the priests he saw that three of the four priests had been shot by the arrows deep in their throats.

The three priests fell and clutched their throats as they choked on a pool of their blood and as some were looking at the fourth priest for some sort of healing felt their bodies pierced by the second wave of arrows.

This left their eyes staring into the void as if waiting for something to come for them. They had died without being of any use to the battle and had piled their responsibilities in the last priest who currently looked as if he wanted to run away from the battle. If he was killed the chance of managing even a draw will be lost. Thus, Todd had come up with a plan and shouted commands to the soldiers.

“Everyone barricades around the last priest,” shouted Todd.

The soldiers escaped from their battle and formed a circular wall of swords between the priest and the enemy. The wall purpose was to ensure the priest was safe and also hold him in place to prevent his escape.

“Lillaid,” chanted Todd which gave him temporarily relief.

The spell he had cast negated all his pain but at the cost of consuming a quarter of his vitality. When he checked his vitality, it was dangerously low and the fight had not yet reached its climax.

This caused him to overcome by rage. Never had he gone to a fight and managed to be this battered. The enemy had so far countered his powerful moves and thus he decided to sacrifice all his vitality for power. He picked up his sword and started to prepare to use all his mana to cast magic.

“Greater mana shield, Life essence, Increased Fire damage and Elven essence,” Todd chanted as he rushed to face the enemy.

While he was casting the spells, he felt his vitality and mana being drained at an alarming rate but none of that mattered if he won.

He slashed at the armour being which responded by blocking the slash which caused Todd to unleash a barrage of fire attacks which met the armour and blew it further away from its companions who were currently in a stalemate with the soldiers.

Todd didn’t give it time to rest and followed up the fire magic with elven essence. This caused a large swarm of arrows to rain upon the armour who was now taking significant damage. When it tried to stand up Todd cast fire prison. The result was a prison built of fire which trapped the armour and exploded.

Todd noticed that the armour movements had become significantly weaker than before and decided to move for the finish with one final blow using life essence. This magic engulfed his sword giving it a faint green glow and the spell also boosted his strength tenfold.

HE caught the armour unaware and decided to slash it diagonally but was instead met my doom. The armour though not too intelligent had acted weak to draw out Todd’s superior move.

Due to Todd using all that magic his vitality and stamina were far below the average standards for soldiers. With one parry Todd felt a cold metallic breeze just near his neck and all of a sudden, his perception of the battle changed.

He noticed that the battlefield was inverted. Just a minute ago everything seemed normal but how come everything is inverted he thought to himself.

That was when he saw a familiar body holding a sword falling down and before he could process his situation the armour sliced his head vertically between his eyes whilst still in the air. The reason he didn’t feel pain was that the spell Lillaid negated all his pain and thus a terrible doom met Todd whose name was to be forgotten in the history books.

Once the other soldiers saw Todd’s fate, they all began to falter in their hands. To them, Todd was what they aspired to be and the fact that an elite commander was gone reassured them their fate was to die here. This caused the soldiers to fight even harder as nobody wanted to accept their fate. They had childish beliefs that friends and hard work would rescue them. However, even hard work and friends give way to the pure raw power which was what they were experiencing.

The armours had one function which was to thin out the strong and once that is done, they would sacrifice themselves to create mana explosions powered by their soul which would take care of the rest. So once Todd was no more, they did their work faithfully and did as they made to do.

The grass field was then shortly lit by blue explosions which engulfed the whole plain and the soldiers didn’t have the chance to screams as their existence was erased and left nothing behind for anyone to remember them by. That was their fate that night whether they accepted it willingly or not was not up to them but the shadow behind the screens.

The explosion shook the whole area and the trembles reached the others who didn’t know what had happened to their comrades.

Currently, Atut was in a dark place and when she tried to use her goldy powers to figure out where she was nothing sensible and valid came by. She tried to feel the mana of the place but the mana was too chaotic that no matter what spell she cast nothing was produced. She tried to cast a simple fire spell but the spell was nullified before it even took place. That was when she heard the girl’s voice behind her and this sent shivers to her very own core.
