Chapter 1

Silverwood Primary was a place where friendships were everything. The school was filled with cliques, students who stayed in their circles, who belonged to their own little worlds. But within our group, we had always been different. We were united by something stronger than popularity or status.

Penelope was the glue that held us together. She had this innate kindness that no one could resist. She believed the best in people, and I admired that about her. Jenny, on the other hand, was more serious. She was focused on her future, especially with the PSLE coming up. Felicity was the one who noticed everything and never failed to share what she saw. She could make a rumor seem like the truth with just a few words. Katherine was the free spirit, always laughing and dancing. She had this undeniable energy that brought life to any room.

Then there was Amelie.

I had always been cautious around her. At first, it was easy to brush off her odd behavior, her need to be at the center of attention, her tendency to push others into the background. But I started noticing how she manipulated people, subtly twisting situations to her advantage. She wasn’t as innocent as everyone thought, and the more I saw, the more I realized that something was off.

And then there was Sorona.

Sorona was quieter than the rest of us. She wasn’t part of the popular crowd, but she had always been a quiet observer. She never sought attention, but somehow, Amelie made it her mission to isolate her. I didn’t understand it at first. Sorona had never done anything to deserve it. But slowly, Amelie’s subtle jabs began to eat away at Sorona’s confidence. It wasn’t obvious to the others, but I could see the change in her. She wasn’t as happy as she used to be.
