A Few Days Later:
These last few days have been... let's just say - eventful.
As for the Llywelyn situation, obviously none of us attend any classes with him, but we overheard snippets from the 1st Years occasionally. He hasn't been doing well in class, for obvious reasons, and also as a result of having to use a spare wand that hasn't taken to him. Apparently he is on a mission to discover the source of all the 'trickery' and 'expose us'. He has an annoying habit of saying 'magic isn't real' in conversations where spells, or anything relating to it, comes up. He also keeps on about how he doesn't want to be here and how everything is so stupid. He's been labelled as the 'worst Slytherin ever', people in our house call him 'the Muggle'. He fits into a lot of the worst stereotypes Pureblood-supremacists have for Muggles. He doesn't have any friends yet, but he doesn't seem to want to make friends.
Anita tried to talk to him a few times. She even asked the Sivril about him. It responded, cryptically, 'that is for you to find out', refusing to give an answer. One time it did answer with: 'Warren is not the name of his family', but that doesn't rule anything out, as 'Warren' is the name of the family that adopted Silas, not his actual name (which remains unknown to us).
I've been starting to think, or at least - hope, that he's genuine. Because, if he is Silas in disguise, he's keeping up really well, day after day.
When I was talking to Antonius earlier, he brought up the fact that a Dark Wizard once disguised himself as a teacher here and kept it up for a whole year. He used Polyjuice Potion and always had a flask of liquid with him, which he drank randomly (it was the Polyjuice Potion) and people didn't pay any attention to it until after they'd found out. So we decided to look to see if he had anything with him - a drink he always carried around, or an enchanted item.
We discovered there is a book he always seems to have with him. It's not a book from here. It's some Muggle book about 'Science and Engineering'. Jared got to have a look at it after dinner this evening. Llywelyn had left it unattended. He said he checked it for any spells, and it seemed completely ordinary. So, if it does have a hidden enchantment, it's so deeply hidden that he couldn't see it.
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
Apparently the boy came back and found him with it, and had the cheek to say,"good, you're doing some real learning for once."
Knowing Silas has been using enchantments from the Foxhole Chamber, I won't be satisfied until either Ed, Lotty or myself have been able to check that book.
As for updates on the Treasure Hunt, Barnaby James hasn't said anything since our last conversation. I've asked Oliver to look for Sivrils in the castle grounds, if he can. We showed him what a Sivril looks like, but he told me he's not good at finding things he can't eat... still, it's worth a try.
Anita hasn't gotten any more clues from the Golden Sivril, but Lotty got the idea to use the Silver Sivril to find more memories around the school. She tried in the library first, there were a lot of memories of Patrick Moonwood of course, but none of them useful that she could find. She did manage to discover a memory in the Charms Classroom when it was empty one time (she also discovered that Professor James did sometimes fall asleep during classes, and the students got up to mischief, or even snook out of the class when this happened, or attached random objects to his cloak as a prank, the list goes on... she did observe that his portrait is a lot worse, though), the memory she found was of Barnaby James gathering up books at the end of a class, when a wizard entered and spoke to him in a low voice about 'Spinner' and 'Moonwood' being in grave danger, and requiring their immediate assistance. Barnaby called the wizard 'Arthur', so now we know what he looked like. Yet Spinner remains a mystery still...
As for the boring business that has actually taken up the majority of time, well, that has been ordinary things; studying and studying for ages, and classes and tests, and preparing for more tests, and reading and... well, it's not really worth writing about.
Later:
Ed got an opportunity to check Llywelyn's book. He made a pretence (well, not exactly a pretence, as he actually is interested) in having an interest in the subject matter, and Llywelyn let him have it. He also performed a revealing spell on the book in front of him, and it didn't seem to bother the boy. Ed is satisfied that Llywelyn is who he says he is.
Anita told me she heard Llywelyn claiming that he was 'the only person in this school providing an education!' after that.
"He always has that book with him, though,"Anita said to me,"there could still be something magic about it that we haven't found out. It could be his way of keeping himself disguised."
"Well, why don't you use the Sivril?"I asked, suddenly having an idea.
"Is Llywelyn's book magical or enchanted in any way?"Anita asked the Sivril.
"The book is entirely ordinary, and not magical in any way,"was the response.
"Well,"I said, raising my eyebrows,"that answers that question."
I hope this is all just a false alarm. In a way, he's strangely likeable. He's unusual and amusing. I hope he's real.
