Book 1 Chapter 1
The girl
----------------------------------------
The night was a peaceful evening.
Alena stared at the full moon above. Noting in her mind that the stars surrounding the moon glitter like unnatural art.
The mountain forest leaves rustle in the breeze of the cool wind. Crickets of the insects sang under the moonlight as her feet moderately walked upon the soft grass and dried leaves that had fallen from their end of time.
Gripping the strap of her backpack, she faintly wondered how it came to this. Was it because of her silence? Her fear? Her anger? Or was it her dignity that finally refused to bend? Nonetheless, she didn’t care anymore.
She had expected this outcome the moment she opened her mouth and argued with her father.
Other than being kicked out, what surprised her more is that he hasn't disowned her from the family.
With how dangerous the world had become, perhaps he expected her to back down like a child and hide in their so-called haven.
Snorting, she pulled the hood a little bit lower, kicking a small round rock away from her path.
"Stupid,"
Alena grumbled, sighing in irritation as the face of her father flashed through her mind once more.
Her relationship with her parents wasn't that bad or that good. She knows they tried their best to show their love through tough love, but the emotional bond wasn’t exactly that deep. While there is a tiny regret of showing that side of her to her mother, Alena hoped she didn't blame herself.
"You just have to run your mouth,”
She shook her head, wryly laughing as she put her hands inside the pocket of her dark green hoodie.
Clicking her tongue, "Well, whatever."
What is done is done... Even though I know he expects me to come back and take back my words, too bad, he has another result. Alena thought, continuing deeper in the forest, ignoring the dimming moonlight.
Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
After a while, Alena halted, expression stoic as she noticed something wasn’t right.
She could feel the wind had stopped, and the insects were unnaturally quiet.
No matter where you are, there is always wind around you and at night, as far as she knew, insects like the crickets are always loud. For them to be as if nonexistent?
Something is wrong. She warned herself, eyes narrowing. Her hand itched close to the handle of the dagger in her side, listening closely to any sound she could hear.
Maybe it's a false warning since she wasn't fond of being alone in the dark and often imagines stuff that doesn't even exist when she's alone on a dark pathway,
Unfortunately for her, even though she doesn't fear being alone in some forest, the world she came to know wasn’t exactly safe anymore. Humans are getting a bit loose on their minds after gaining some kind of superpowers, and monsters appear almost everywhere in the world. As much as she prided herself on being athletic enough, she knows when to back off. Not wanting to test her lack against those kinds of supernatural phenomena.
Warily eyeing the darkness, Alena nervously chuckled, trying to shrug off her fear as she turned around, with the intent of following the track she left behind.
"Yeah-I ain’t doing this for today-"
Words died from her throat as her feet didn’t meet the physical ground she expected to step on. Eyes widening, she felt the wind blowing from below. The sight of the forest going up from her view as darkness consumed her sight.
“Woah!”
Did I fall into some kind of hole!? She thought in confusion, clenching her mouth shut as she maneuvered herself to let her legs face down, extending her arms, desperately trying to grab something that should at least stop her fall but there was nothing. What the fuck is going on?
As much as it confused her how there is suddenly a hole behind her, she should have fallen into some hole within arm-length not something... like this.
A faint light caught her sight making her eyes squint as her lips quivered, dreading what's about to come. Am I going to die?
If she falls on the ground right now, it will be her death. Flattened with broken bones. Even if she survives, she will be crippled, and worse, she will slowly and painfully die down there.
As the light brightened with each passing second, she closed her eyes to block the bright light, bracing herself as she tried not to think of what would happen to her body once it impacted the ground.
Within moments, she finally hit something.
It was not something she expected as it felt warm and soft.
Flattering her eyes open through the sudden brightness, she then saw the sun. A bright sun hovering in the clear blue sky greeted her sight.
“Huh?”
Her mind blanked out as the wind brushed against her fall. Looking down, she also saw a vast green forest. Making one thing clear to her.
She was in the sky.
And she was falling.
As that fact registered what was happening,
"Aaaaaaah!"
Alena screamed.
