The castle was quiet. The guests had left and new students had been assigned to their dorm rooms. Special Grade students stay in the castle while the other ranks were escorted to the school dormitories.

Only a few servants and guards would walk past down the corridors attending to their duties.

“So what is it that you wanted to tell us?” I asked, leaning on my table. My sister Eleanor was laying on the floor face down pretending to be dead, don’t ask why at this point I have come to the conclusion she is mentally ill.

Rosabella and Vinter at least sat on chairs sensibly.

Honestly I feel bad for Vinter, it seems like a curse to be with my sister. Obviously I would know, I have been with her since we were in the womb. Yet, Vinter somehow enjoys our ‘silliness’ even though she had tried to kidnap him multiple occasions and once tried to dismember him.

Rosabella took a deep breath, “The Silver Tide returned from its voyage yesterday...”

I tilted my head a little, “Isn’t that supposed to be a good thing?”

“It is...” She sighed, “No one was on the ship...it arrived empty...not even my uncle was in there,” she spoke silently.

“What...?” Vinter raised an eyebrow, “How could that happen?” He looked at me as if I had answers. Which I don’t.

“Did you recheck the ship?” I asked.

She nodded.

“Do you think they are dead...?” I asked.

“I hope not...” I don’t know how but her voice held hope, she always sounded hopeful, I always found it difficult to have hope. That word seemed strange to me, “...Icurus’s dad was one of the crew,” she added.

My sister rustled on the floor turning around to face the ceiling, “Oh then I think they are alive!”

Vinter chuckled, “What makes you think that?” he asked her quite lovingly. Eww, disgusting.

“Well for starters, Icurus’s dad fucked a siren and survived. No man has lived to tell the tale! So I am sure they or at least he will be alive!” She stretched her arm out.

“I wonder how he did it...” she looked at me “Should I ask Pyrrhus or Icurus how their parents made them?”

“No!” I sternly said, “I am not allowing you to ask sixteen year olds about sex!”

Rosabella cleared her throat, “Hm. What about the mystery at hand?”

Eleanor looked at her, “You mean the mystery on how Icurus and Pyrrhus’s dads fucked their moms?”

“I mean..” Vinter tried not to laugh, “I am intrigued as well...”

“Ok!” Rosabella clasped her hands together, very loudly, “Back to my topic!”

Edward layed on his bed, chest down, his wavy hair framing his face. His green eyes sparkled and his lips formed a small smile as he asked, “What happened next?” He played with Icurus’s hair, coiling it around his hands.

Sitting on the floor and leaning against the bedpost, Icurus replied, “Then Prince Vinter came along and somewhat settled things down.” His voice was gentle.

With a soft sigh, Edward shook his head. “I’m sorry Levina treated you that way. She can be difficult.”

Icurus looked up, locking eyes with Edward. He saw his own reflection in Edward’s emerald eyes, while Edward saw himself mirrored in Icurus’s silver ones.

“So I’ve been told,” Icurus said, tilting his head but keeping his gaze on Edward.

Edward bit his bottom lip, feeling heat creeping into his cheeks as butterflies fluttered in his stomach. “Who told you that?” he asked.

Pursed lips, Icurus looked away, breaking their shared gaze to Edward’s disappointment. “Your friend Alcester told me. He also mentioned how her father was murdered by a siren.”

“It’s okay,” Edward said reassuringly, putting his arms around Icurus’s neck. “I know you wouldn’t do that.” He placed a gentle, feather-light kiss on the back of Icurus’s head.

Icurus managed a weak smile, stroking Edward’s wrist with his hand. Blushing, Edward buried his face in Icurus’s shoulder, inhaling his scent of sea salt, while Icurus caught Edward’s aroma of almonds and cypress.

“It’s late, I should go,” Icurus said, starting to get up, but Edward held him in place, unwilling to let go.

“You should stay here,” Edward pouted. “You can sleep in my bed.” A smirk formed on his face. “We could-”

Icurus abruptly stood, breaking Edward’s grip. “I have to go. See you tomorrow,” he stated before heading to the door.

Sitting upright on his bed, Edward’s lips turned down. “Okay, see you tomorrow. Goodnight.”

Pausing in the doorway, Icurus said, “Good night, sleep tight.” Then he closed the door behind him.

Striding down the hallway, Icurus didn’t stop until he was a safe distance from the prince’s room. Letting out a big sigh, he murmured, “Prince Edward is so cute...I nearly kissed him...ughhh...” He lightly banged his head on the window, looking at his reflection. Pointing at it, he frowned, “You can never have him.”

“Honestly, it depends on my brother.”

Icurus jumped at the sudden deep voice, whirling around to see the tall figure of Prince Ernesto, his long purple hair and cold green eyes.

Stuttering in surprise, Icurus inclined his head in a bow. “Pri-Prince Ernesto, what are you doing here?”

Looking indifferent, Ernesto replied, “I live here.”

Icurus cringed internally, thinking, ‘Yes of course, that was a stupid question...please don’t kill me!’

“I came to bid my younger brother goodnight. What are you doing here?” Ernesto raised an eyebrow.

Scrambling for an excuse, Icurus said awkwardly, “I-I got lost.”

“You were in Edward’s bedroom,” Ernesto stated bluntly.

Icurus pursed his lips. “Uhmm...he...”

“It’s alright, I don’t really care who my brother sleeps with,” Ernesto interrupted, “as long as it’s consensual, he’s happy, and it’s after marriage.” His narrowed eyes bored into Icurus.

“You can trust me,” Icurus blurted out.

Ernesto nodded. “I can trust you, but not my brother.” With that, he strode down the hall toward Edward’s room.

Suddenly Eleanor was standing very close, her breath hot on Icurus’s ear. “So...how did your parents fu-”

Clamping a hand over his sister’s mouth, Ernesto ordered sharply, “Go to bed.”

Icurus made a run for it.

“Welcome back!” Xavier said, clearly enjoying the luxury as he lounged on one of the beds. He turned on his side, watching Icurus close the door behind him. “So, how did it go?” Xavier asked.

Icurus smiled weakly.

“Did you get laid?”

“What?” Icurus wrinkled his nose. “Of course not! And...don’t talk about him like that!”

“Okay...” Xavier rolled his eyes. “What did happen then?”

Icurus sat on his bed and shrugged. “Not much. I just told him about everything that’s been happening.”

“You nearly kissed him, didn’t you?” Xavier smirked.

Icurus pursed his lips. “No...”

“Well, you wanted to, didn’t you?” Xavier grinned cheekily.

Icurus took off his uniform and threw it on a chair. He tugged a sleeping tunic over his head. “So what if I did?”

He went under his warm bed sheet, relief washing over him as the day finally ended.

The lantern flickered on the table between the two beds. If one was to turn it off, they’d have to get up.

“Who’s going to turn off the lights?” Icurus asked.

Xavier got comfortable. “Not me.”

Icurus huffed. “Not me either.”

Xavier turned around, pulling the sheets over his head. “Then I guess we’re sleeping with the lights on.”

Icurus got comfortable as well. “Guess so.”

There was silence until the bedroom door swung open and Rosabella in her nightgown walked in. She elegantly went over to the lantern, turning it off. “Good night, my children,” she said lovingly.

“Good night, mom,” Xavier said from underneath his covers.

Rosabella walked out of the room and Ariana entered, quite angry. “I used to be her only child.”

“Well, sister, you’ve gotta deal with us,” Xavier said again.

Slamming the door, Ariana left in a huff.

“That was weird,” Icurus murmured.

The sea crashed onto the rocky shore as the sun set on the horizon, darkness nearly upon them. A man with dark skin and twisted dreadlocks sat on the rocks wearing an Eldorian sailor’s uniform. Before him was a glowing, pearlescent woman with turquoise hair cascading over her shoulders and onto her breasts. Her eyes shimmered like silver. She was angry.

They were Icurus’s parents.

“You left Icurus behind,” she spoke.

“Don’t worry, I left him in good hands,” the man replied.

Her brows narrowed. “I don’t consider an old woman a good caretaker, especially one with a child.” She moved closer to the shore.

He tilted his head. “It’s not like you were going to take care of him.”

That seemed to upset her even more. “I would have...if he was born more like me...”

“But he wasn’t,” the man said. “He is more human.”

“No,” she said, now very close to him. “He has magic, more than me. He just doesn’t know it yet.”

Her cold breath was on his neck. “When you return he will be sixteen. There is a prophecy about him.”

The man sat up. “Is he in danger?”

The siren shook her head. “Not if he uses his gift correctly.”

The man sighed in relief. “I know he will.”

“But the humans will ruin him,” she whispered, nose wrinkled. “I don’t like humans.”

“I am human,” he pointed out.

She sighed, her hands resting close to his thigh. “You’re different. You saved me from the bad ones,” she said sweetly, enchantingly.

He chuckled, his hands moving to her hips where skin turned to scales.

“Yes, of course. That’s how hybrids exist,” he said, kissing her forehead. “Now tell me more about this prophecy.”

“Well,” she wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling herself closer. “He is to be a great water mage...” her tail split into legs. Her lips met his. He pulled her closer as she wrapped her thighs around his waist. “He will also be a blo-” she gasped and moaned.

Icurus got up bewildered, breathing heavily, “what in the name of hades...”

Xavier turned to his side, still half a sleep, “you had a bad dream?” he yawned.

“Worse” he said still trying to came in terms with what he saw, “I nearly saw my parents doing it...” he said in absolute horror.

“Oooh” Eleanor clasped her hands, “so that’s how they do it!” She cheered.

“AHAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH” Xavier’s blood curtailing scream could be heard even in the castle dungeons, he pulled his covers over him.

“ELEANOR!” Ernesto’s voice bellowed through the hallways, “stop harassing sixteen year olds!”
