Dean sat listless at his study table, fidgeting with his pen, looking through his window. he was unable to write his college essay as the words couldn't come to him. No, it wasn't that, it was more so that he didn't want to write it. He was an excellent student at school, always having good grades, always ever so curious about the workings of his world, whose borders were just a couple of cities and a whole lot of wilderness between them.
Frustrated that the words didn't just magically appear in his brain, he got up and irritated went downstairs to the kitchen as though hunger would solve his problem of not coming up with anything. his kitchen was illuminated with beautiful lights matching the rest of his modern house. His mother was working at the countertop, preparing for today's dinner. 'did you write your college essay' implored his mother. Now dean loved his mother so much so that he would do anything for her, but she could be annoying sometimes-well more than sometimes. 'Ah yes the expression of relaxation on my face makes you deduce that i must have done it' 'couldn't say a simple no could you?' 'nah' the banter went on for a while which helped dean to get distracted from his failure to write anything. As the duo were talking, Mr.Reider entered the house after a having spent the day at the government office regarding some misconception between two companies.
'You're late' said dean 'pretty late' added the mother. 'I know i know i was held up, you know these egotistical men and their ability to talk bullshit for a long time.' 'well that is true' said dean. The trio then sat down and had dinner. Dean, not wanting to go back up so that he may not have to write that ever so important piece of paper, stayed with his parents, talking and having a good time. But as all good times come to an end, his father asked him 'so did you write it' 'no' said dean with a tinge of annoyance 'and why does everyone keep asking me that' 'because it’s important for your future, if you were to go to the city's highest positioned university, you'll have a tremendous career ahead of you.' 'and how can you be sure?' the father while taking a brownie from the table said 'I know that because i raised you, I know you are capable of entering CCOF. 'and what if i don't get in?' 'you will dean' interjected the mother, 'you do know your marks right?, I mean you are aware of them right?' 'Yes ,yes I am aware'

Dean after being cajoled by his parents to go write his essay, thought of giving it another go, and a n another go he did, this time he exceeded his expectations and was able to write the damn thing. As he kept on writing, time went on, he finished at 2 in the morning. satisfied with his work, sent it through his computer and went to sleep. Tomorrow morning was rather pleasant, a weight had been lifted of dean's shoulders and he could have some fun. Everything college related was done, and now all he had to do was wait for the results, which obviously he wasn't very keen on receiving. He then called up his best friend or should we say his only friend jack and went with him to their favorite place Yen's diner, famous place around their neighborhood.' so did you write it?' asked jack as they sat down.' why does everyone keep asking me that' 'because it's important Dean.' 'I know and the answer is yes' jack let out a relieved sigh and said 'finally, if I had marks as good as you and a chance to go CCOF I would have wrote that essay in a second.' his friend unlike jack wasn't able to qualify for CE and hence not been able to apply for CCOF.' That stupid essay will be up to no good if didn't qualify in the exam itself, so why bother writing it' countered dean. the exam was made for students who crossed a certain threshold for college during their school years. the exam included various things such as your aptitude to handle mana tools, your insight into the whole science behind mana and the mutation that occurred through humans because of that discovery. Humanity was transcended beyond their lowly selves of the pasts. they were now the recipients of power of great understanding, a power of great factor. But that came at a cost, a huge one at that, the theory that changed the human outlook, backtracked it to its isolated days. Humans left from the Neurosis were few, Cities inhabited even fewer. 'I really wanna go and explore the world jack, but that can’t be done by writing essays, but by taking action' 'and how will you explore the world when the second you go out the sphere and into an even tiered dimension, you'll die a miserable death to the Muetes ’you really have no faith in me do you my good friend’ 'alright let's change the topic, let's celebrate you getting in CCOF. 'the deed is not done yet' 'it's only a matter of time. 'It seemed to dean that he was the only one that wasn't so sure of his entry in this prestigious place, for he knew something they didn't.
