Riverside Village is a place that can only be described as ordinary. Its name stems from the reality of its location and nothing more. Its thatch-roofed homes and gravel roads being from the same blueprint as countless other villages. The people of this place are also ordinary. There is a Blacksmith, a Tanner, a Seamstress, Farmers, etc. All that live in this village have to contribute just like in all other villages. If a family does not have a particular trade, the women help out with the laundry, cooking, or taking care of the children. As for the men, they take part in the defense of the village. One has to always be vigilante, for beasts and Monsters roam the land. But that is also quite normal in this land. This is nothing special in the world of Aegis.
Though, one boy is finding himself to be somewhat special. That is dangerous in a village such as this one. Those that are special, or different, have to have the luck of being found by the right person. It is all too easy to misunderstand and fear the unknown. This is especially true when you yourself don't know what is happening.
"Why am I seeing things? Why is this happening to me?" These are the desperate cries of a little boy no more than 8 years old.
He has been seeing strange visions of shining cities and great and powerful Magi. He knows he is no oracle. Oracles can only receive a Prophecy if they had been awakened. This is the reason there are so few of them.
When he has these visions, he runs away to the forest, or locks himself up in his room to wait them out. They never last more than a few minutes, in fact, most of them last no more than a few seconds. The reason he is breaking down in this moment, alone in the forest, is because this one was different. It was...
"...scary. Blood and parts... flying everywhere! Am I seeing a demon? Am I possessed?" At this point tears are rushing down his face, terror consuming his little heart. He is assuming the worst, yet understanding that he cannot tell anyone about this. His parents think that the visions had ended. They had discretely asked the local priest to exorcise the spirit that was ailing him, filling his head with things that don't exist. This was when he was 6 years old.

The boy believed it was over as well. The visions ceased to come for months. He believed he was free of being the strange one amongst the children.
His visions would come at completely random times. This meant it could have been at home, or it could have been in the middle of class. The visions would always make him stop what he was doing, unable to make sense of what is true and what is false. This is so he would not hurt himself. He has done it before. He was getting a vision while trying to hop over a creek with the rest of the village boys. He made the run-up and had a vision right before the jump. He tripped into the creek and hit his head on some rocks. He was unconscious for two days. This event was a reminder to never do something dangerous, or he could hurt himself because of a vision.
As a result he never joined the boys in anything that could have hurt him if he started to have a vision. He tried to play with the girls instead, but that just made the other children laugh at him.
This is why those few months without the visions really gave him hope. He believed he could live like the rest of the children and not worry his parents anymore. His jubilation was all too soon. The visions returned and they returned more visceral than before. This brings us to current day.
I just want to be normal. I just want to play with everyone else. Why can't I just be normal? This has been his greatest desire ever since the visions became a problem that he couldn't ignore. That is exactly what he was doing when he was very young. He just ignored them believing that everyone had the same visions as him. How is a child supposed to know any better?
And so this poor child continues to have visions throughout his life. He tries to live the best he can while hiding his special-ness, his self-named defect. Until he had a turning point in his life, the day the beasts rampaged. This day the visions stopped and he took control of his own destiny. This destiny being one that spans eons beyond imagining. He will become a man that safeguards the lives of uncountable amounts of stars and galaxies. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. First is the day the visions stopped.
