As the rain came down in the forest where Jax was hunting, he couldn’t quite control the hint of agitation that crossed his face. He was used to the rain, but that didn’t mean that he liked it anymore than the next person. Jax had been stalking a boar for the better part of the day and had finally found the perfect ambush spot. Waiting patiently as he was taught, Jax was focused entirely on the moment when the boar would appear from the brush and would allow Jax to fire his bow into its exposed side. Bow taut with tension, Jax felt and saw the moment, releasing his arrow without the use of his magic felt awkward but that is what his father wanted from him. The arrow flew right over the boars back. The boar now enraged, looked around hoping to find what had startled him. Beady eyes fell onto the teenager and Jax could see the rage coming from the boar. As the boar charged towards Jax, Jax felt his heart and adrenaline racing. Pulling the sword from his scabbard Jax sidestepped the charging boar and with an overwhelmingly powerful slash cut the boar’s head off.
From the trees where Jax was located dropped a person. Immediate disappointment was on this Man’s face. Jax knew that he had messed up but in the moment, adding his own magic into his arms and legs allowing him to easily sidestep and then slice through the boar. No regular human could do that, Jax knew that. But why should he have to limit what he could do just because others couldn’t. His Father shook his head, as if sensing the exact thoughts that were going through Jax’s mind. “ Son,” his father said. “You must learn to control your magic in these situations. You have become too reliant on it. What would happen if you were unable to use your magic, what would you have done then.” Jax responded angrily, “ This is ridiculous, when would I ever be in a situation where I couldn’t use my magic.”

Time and Time again this argument was made, this time however the end result would be different. “ You have left me no choice son, I truly wish that you had learned in these last few years but now I see that drastic measures are the only way to rid you of this crutch that you have with your magic.” Jax’s Father whispered in an almost guttural language that Jax did not know and with one last look, his Father quietly said, “ I am truly sorry son, I have failed you.” With those final words Jax went unconscious.
