The Rising of a God
Arriving in Bosworth

Arriving in Bosworth

There we were. After this exhausting ride we were finally here. But we had to take care about our mission now. Askingly looking at Jack I waited for some kind of instructions of him. He was rather the captain of the team than I was.

But with a quick glance to a tavern, he set off, indicating that we would rest for a night first. "Jack, why do we rest first? We must take care of these three divine beings who are killing other people in the bodies they have taken over." I told him while stretching my entire body.

"We don't have to. They are half an hour ride with the horses away from the city right now. We can just wait for them tomorrow and take a rest now. Here is some money. Do whatever you want with it, but I would consider going to sleep now. See you tomorrow" Jack directed over me with a sublime look while walking towards a small creepy looking house.

That little hut looked kinda spooky to me. Yet everyone should sleep where he considered to do so I guess. Anyways I wanted to stay the night at that little tavern over there. Luckily it didn't rained since Jack and I started our journey in the other city and I didn't look like a homeless guy again. But...I was actually homeless. What a coincidence.

But what is this guy thinking. Where could you had ever gotten even one night with 20 copper coin? Twenty copper coins are almost worth nothing. Although copper was not the cheapest means of payment, it was still worth almost nothing. For one person to survive in a day, you need about 10 silver coins. And that would be 1000 coppers. So I didn't even have five percent of what I needed to survive in a day, what a miser.

This tavern didn't look as I aspected it to be like. Quite a moldy roof, but the walls looked stable enough I guess. People went in and out all the time, so I didn't think it could be too bad in there. I just wanted to try my luck and see what came my way. Life comes as it comes anyway.

As I entered the tavern, the door creaked with a rather shrill sound. As if someone had attached something to it. Astonished, I looked around, but I could not discover anything else unusual, until the apparent owner discovered me in the doorway.

"Hello dear customer, aren't you a little too young to to hang around here alone at this time of the day?"

Immediately after, I entered the room, closed the door behind me, and placed my Guild license on the table. The tavern seemed to have a small library in the corner. Some seats were free there, but most of the people sitting there didn't look too community-minded. "A room for one person and for one night. Nothing else for now." I returned harshly back to the unknown man.

"I see you aren't that of a talkactive person, are you? Anyways, why only stay for one night my friend. We have quite a nice offer where you could get a room for 3 nights for the price of 2."

"Listen, I don't have the time to talk with you here. I want to get sleep as soon as possible because I have to accomplish a mission in the next morning. You got that? Just give me a room for one night and we both will be fine. Otherwise..." With that, I pointed down to my hidden blade between my wrist and my coat.

"Of course s-s-sir, you will get one of the best room I could ever offer someone. Also you are from the famous Menacing Kings" he stuttered in a rush while getting the keys for me. Why is everyone praising my guild like gods? I didn't really understand it at that time because they were just some stupid old people that couldn't even make full use of their gods. Of course there were some of them but I had never met them at that time. And surely I wasn't ready to meet them already.

The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

"Ah, by the way I want something else than the room too. Can I get something to eat? Just bring me something that is not too expensive but fills the stomach. Thanks." I patted him on the back while making my way to the library. He didn't even answer me but I could sense his fear in the air. That was probably because he saw the guild's badge and he was scared of us Holders.

After I reached the library in the corner of the tavern, I saw some pretty interesting book cover. One of these books had the title "Gods and their Holders". In fact I wanted to learn a lot about the gods, even though I refused my own for personal reasons. They were just way too fascinating and kind of scary to some people. But I wasn't scared at all because the first thing I learned after inheriting my god was that if you are scared of it than you will fall to make perfect use of it.

Wordlessly and staring at the book's cover, I waited for the food and wondered what the landlord would bring me to eat. It was an exciting feeling again. Sitting in a kind of a restaurant and waiting for the food. I remembered that I was doing that kind of game with my family when I was young. Back in the days my family and I, especially me and my sister, were playing a game that we called "Food roulette". We would tell the waiter that we wanted some he would recommend to us and then we waited for that. Sometimes it was a complete disaster but other times it was just pure joy.

Tearing me out of my daydreaming, someone opened the door very impetuously and for no reason at all the person hurled it against the wall. As facade moved into the room I spotted an almost nacked very old man that was starved down. You could see his ribcage hanging almost out of his stomach. Also I couldn't understand how he managed to even stay on these legs that were almost only bones.

"Please give me something to eat so I can live." he muttered at first. Then he began to scream and shout "I ALREADY LOST MY WHOLE FAMILY, JUST PLEASE HELP ME!". To me he just seemed like an old crazy guy that had nothing to live for anymore. But wasn't I the same? I didn't have something to accomplish in my life. Just being the slave of a guild.

All of the sudden the aged man started to pattern me. I wondered a brief moment but then he was already at my table. What a speed. Nobody could have seen that coming. But he moved so damn quick in my direction. "Hey young boy, aren't you a little different from the other? I wonder what you had to go through in your life until this point."

"Sorry, but I don't really know what you mean by that. Actually I wanted to relax and read this book right here." I showed him the book while taking out the blade without anyone recognizing it.

"Young boy, don't even try anything one me. I might look old and crazy but I were are the same. It all started with me and this book too. If I think of it, I never should have read it. It took everything from me." Biting on the tip of his fingers and going through his hair with the other hand at the same time.

In that very moment I was stunned and also confused. I couldn't answer him on what he just said. Why would we be the same? What does he know? Does he know anything about what is going on with me? All this questions and many more were spinning in my head. I couldn't think clear in the moment.

Without a chance of asking him about more. He was dragged out of the tavern by two strong guys that were some kind of employees of the tavern. While the man was dragged away, he started whispering something. But I wasn't able to understand a lot from him. Only the words "...I have failed..." were stuck in my head. How couldn't I remember more what he said?

What did that even mean? What did he fail. I had no clue and I really didn't want to think more about it. It was just way too complicated for me in that vary moment. The confusion widened in my mind and I just wanted to eat, not think about it, and read the book. That's when my food came. I was hoping for a big piece of meat and I was lucky because it was a pork knuckle with potatoes.

Last time we played the game you didn't had that much luck, had you Emma...?
