The new beginning

Be warned, this is not a story of courage, honesty, or virtue. This is a story of revenge, of a revenge that has consumed me. This story is not about confronting evil, or justice, this story is about righting a great wrong that was done to me.

It all started when my parents died in a car crash.

Wait sorry, that's not the right spot.

It all started when I was out hunting dragons in Royal Road.

Wait no, that's not the right spot either.

It all started when I started to spend more and more time in Royal Road.

Hmm, thats not it either.

It all started when I was born.

I was pampered with everything that I would ever need.

I had countless remote toy cars, brand name clothing, expensive computers...

In short, I had quite a bit, I would have liked to own my own house but that was a bit ridiculous so I settled with owning another computer on top of my state of the art one.

My family wasn’t large, just my parents, me and a butler/playmate. In my old neighborhood, where the houses were built out of wood (thankfully, we now live in a large house made of steel and marble with lush carpet), a fire occurred and took away the lives of our neighbors. The parents both died and left a little boy behind. And thus, my parents took him in and now he's living with us full time as a butler. His name is James by the way.

My name? I’m Feducia, yeah weird name right? At least its not some commoner name like yours probably is. Hah.

My parents were wealthy business owners. Uhh, I think it was like Emperor Corporation or something. It specialized in selling clothing that were made in sweatshops, where the employees were paid something like 20 cents per piece of clothing they made and then the same piece of clothing would sell for upwards of 2000 dollars in department stores. Hey, money is money, I really don’t care about the methods used to get it.

So about my personal life, god you guys are nosy. Well, in school I had decent grades, and by decent I mean an occasional C, mostly D's and a couple of E's. Personally school wasn’t my thing at all. And whenever my parents saw my report cards, they reassured themselves of my future by saying that the teachers were being unfair or that I was a late bloomer, even though I could see their anguish at my bad grades.  But that was their problem, not mine.

On my 16th birthday, they were out of ideas for my present, they had pretty much given me everything that I would ever need, I had enough clothes to last me a lifetime, if I didn’t grow out of them, I had expensive electronics that cost almost as much as the house, which was an Victorian style mansion, complete with rose gardens and a lake. I had just about everything.

On the day of my birthday, I decided that I wanted a car for my birthday. My parents who were panicking about what to get me, immediately went to the nearest car dealership to buy the most expensive car there. On their way back, they decided that my dad would drive the brand new car , a sleek black Ferrari 458, back. And that’s where it all went wrong...

On some the road back, my dad took the wrong turn and got lost. After all, my parents usually had professional chauffeurs to drive their cars. After getting lost, he stumbled into a bad neighborhood. And while he were driving through that neighborhood full of graffiti. A tattered car rammed right into the Ferrari.

It was that car crash that took away the life of my dad.

My dad didn't die upon impact. Since he was in a bad neighborhood, the surrounding people instantly swarmed up to the car and pulled him out of the car before looting the car in front of him. The tattered was empty, someone had obviously set that up as a trap. He died on the sidewalk with no one giving him so much as a glance as they drove the Ferrari off.

We didn’t hear the news until a cop came to inform us of the news. Upon hearing the news, my mom broke down, slowly sinking into a corner, as if her bones were turned to water. For me, it didn’t mean much, after all I didn’t like my dad for his personality but rather his money.

After the accident, I finally had my excuse to quit school and forced James to do the same. I stayed home playing video games, mainly a game called Royal Road, the first full Virtual Reality game. Upon its release, back when my dad was still alive, it was a huge thing, everyone at school was talking about it. Later, the same day, when I mentioned to my parents that I wanted a capsule, and sure enough, they ordered a capsule right away and I began to play it as soon as I got my hands on it.

Unlike other players, I never hunted monsters that were above my level or that could bring me below half health nor did I take on any quests, plus I had enough health potions to drown in, I had bought all of the potions using money. Put simply, the joy of slaughtering the weak was exhilarating for me and the sweet taste of the health potion was a bonus. Although I leveled up much more slowly than other players, I was able to have much higher skill mastery from the constant repetition of attacking small monsters. For fun, I also attacked players that were lower leveled than me, I made sure that they were a lot weaker than me before attacking them, those commoners were honored to die by my hands!

Besides having a high skill mastery, I also had equipment that were all epic rarity or above. The levels of rarity were horrible, used, common, uncommon, rare, epic, divine and finally legendary. Of course, I bought most of that equipment costing about $2000. I didn’t have any of the divine or legendary equipment simply because there were no players willing to sell them, even the lowest divine equipment could make up a level difference of over 20 levels, higher when the player was low leveled. If I were to factor in all the equipment that I had ever bought for Royal Road, I would have spent around $10000 dollars in equipment. But hey, I’m rich so who cares.

After a very active period of relatives and friends coming to express their condolences at my dad’s death (all of them were very pretentious, shedding fake tears and telling exaggerated stories and I suffocated from the hugs that they gave me) the people slowly stopped visiting. My life finally went back into its monotonous routine, James would do all the housework, cleaning, cooking, buying necessities and whatever I wanted.

The shock had paralyzed my mom and she like me, locked herself in her own room. Unlike me, she wasn’t playing Royal Road in her room but rather, she cried over the loss of my dad. Why would you cry so much now? He’s dead and he can't come back, get over it.

So, a month after my dad died, after a tiring day of hunting, I logged out of my account and was about to go to sleep (my bed was conveniently right next to the capsule) when James suddenly came into my room and requested that he get a capsule for Royal Road too.

At first I was shocked, James never came into my room without my summonings and never demanded anything. But being the generous person that I am, I gave him my bank card along with the password and allowed him to order the capsule and then went to sleep.

Never did I think that I had just made the worst choice of my life.

The next day, when I woke up, I sensed something was off. The normally drool-worthy smell of breakfast didn’t come wafting into my room. When I called for James through the special intercom that was installed in my room, I didn’t get a response, that was definitely weird. He was usually up before me and had everything prepared. Thinking that he had just gone outside to buy something, I crawled into the capsule for Royal Road.

Before logging out, I remember being in a cave that was full of crystals, it was somewhat of a special dungeon although the monsters were somewhat underleveled for me but that was no problem since I loved to hunt these underleveled things. But when I logged in, instead of a beautiful crystal cave, I was in the middle of a desolate village. Where the heck is this? Did I get teleported?

When I checked my stats for a clue as to what happened. I was shocked. Instead of being level 322, I was level 1.

It was horrendous. I had restarted in some random place. It was desolate, the streets were void of life and inside the houses were people that moved in doll-like motions. It seemed like a village that was full of robots, performing tasks and nothing else. Then suddenly the space in front of me began to shine and distort. The air above it began to shimmer and soon I was enveloped in a white smoke cloud.

Soon, standing in front of me was….. me?

What the heck?
