whoosh!
the wind blew past me, slightly grazing my skin, which was soaked with sweat. it was so cold that my trembling heart calmed down.
i was standing a few meters away from the school gate, thinking about what had happened before.
'was he ill, a psychiatric patient who escaped the hospital or maybe he...he...ugh i don't know.' i thought clutching my head tightly trying to make sense of what happened to the taxi driver.
'is he even human, how can someone smile like that.' slightly shivering as i recalled his terrifying smile.
pondering, but getting nowhere i decided to blame it on coffee and put it to the back of my head to solve it later.
i took a deep breath, then walked to the high school gate with my tired legs.
as i walked i looked around seeing no additional forces or police vehicles.
' where are they?' i thought confused as i stood in front of the gate.
i looked left and right but no soul was to be seen.
i pushed the gate discovering that it was left open.
creak.

it creaked as it opened.
i felt uneasy. ' maybe they are inside' i thought optimistically as i walked in.
step.
i walked around the school for at least an hour but found no one.
my uneasiness grew. after searching for a while, i considered running away.
Ring. ring.
but then as if sensing my thoughts, i heard a sound.
it was a phone ringing.
Tap.
my steps stopped as i turned my head toward the sound.
reluctantly i walked towards it.
uneasiness filled my body and mind but i ignored it hoping that all would be alright.
but reality was different.
the sound led me to narrow space between two blocks of buildings. there i found the source of the sound.
A phone covered in dried blood was lying on the ground cracked.
ring ring. it continued ringing, with every ring my blood turned cold as my hair stood on its ends.
all my previous naive thoughts disappeared. " something happened" i said with a grave tone.
ring. ring.
the phone continued its wails.
i decided to show courage as i stepped forward.
i went forward picking up the bloodied phone. the screen was cracked so i couldn't see the name of the caller.
ding.
nonetheless i picked it up placing it near my ear.
"hello?" i squeezed out the words out my dried mouth, almost whispering.
"...huff...huff..." i heard rough breathing from the other side.
"....h-hello?" i said again this time louder but my voice cracked nonetheless.
"....huff...run.." i heard something but not clearly
luckily the person on the other end repeated it.
"...run...run away...thirteenth." or unluckily.
"who!" i said confused about who the person talked about.
"..." there was no answer.
"who are you?" i asked again.
"i am..-" the call ended.
" ..." i stood there staring at the phone with wide eyes.
"my brain can't handle another drop of fear" i uttered the words with trembling lips.
but...
BANG!
didn't know that it would be my last.
THUD.
and the life of a average man called Ethan wood...
...ended.
