There are two worlds bound by this Ring of Fate.
There is Caloria, the world of men and women, of humans and alisars, a plane which mirrors those dreams of high fantasy adventures and dark fantasy tragedies...
...and there is Etheria, the plane of demons, angels, and those who would call themselves gods. A place that some have referred to as hell, and others have referred to as heaven.
But in the places where these two realms intersect... those pesky Rings of Fate could shatter, and the stream of destiny is irrevocably altered to allow a Calorian to shape any fate they desire. The goddess Evra's leyline barriers protect these dimensions each, allowing Calorians to wield the once-ley barrier, and Etherians to wield the twice-ley, both invisible lines of raw energy which can summon powerful magicks at the caster's whim.
...But should an Etherian break the Rings of Fate? That would allow them to ascend from their plane, to a higher dimension in the hierarchy of the realms. To contest the black-red deity Azafel for his crimson court, to become the master of the entire multiverse...!

...And yes, dear reader, that's exactly what I'm going to do. For decades in Etherian time, I've warred with Serkukan the Crimson Flame and Llestren'vatis the Outsider. For centuries in the Calorian time, our war has been waged.
But now, the Omnestatum, the artefact which fuels the Etherian race's fragmented powers, has been shattered. And I have been the sole benefactor of its energy!
With this power have I forged Dyosius, the device which will allow me to sever the Rings of Fate and ascend...
...but I cannot make this dream a reality until I slit the throat of the very beast which controls reality itself, Serkukan!
And thanks to my communion with Ithlo'vatis the Child, I should predict that this fate is not so very far away after all...!
