CHAPTER 39: NOT HOLDING BACK
A young, round-faced, black-haired woman pulled out her tall top hat and tucked in several pajamas in various animal shapes.
“No need to wear so many pajamas, girl.”
A voice came from her own voice and the ‘Girl’, Mia raised her head to look at her reflection in the nearby mirror.
In the mirror her figure was reflected and the right eye was glowing in a light blue color and Mia instead of hesitating, fixed her straight hair and checked again the casual clothes she was wearing and then to the pajamas she kept in the hat.
The top hat was bottomless and she could keep her pajamas that she wore when she used her abilities and she had also kept another mask in case it was needed.
Today her task was not to fight, but she had an important task.
“Still, I have to be prepared,” Mia said observing that entity.
Especially at the figure that was beginning to reflect in the mirror and looking back at her... The entity known as the brightest transcendental was connected to her.
It had given her support and helped her become a super in secret from her family and had given her incredible abilities.
Wearing the high top hat she could bring illusions of all kinds to life and when she wore pajamas, she could become the pajama creature... Gaining the strength of such animals, except multiplied by several times.
It had limitations, such as only working with pajamas and not costumes, but it was extremely useful and it was this that allowed her to become a super and even helped her get into the Brotherhood of Heroes.
The secret vigilantes of the world.
“Thank you for helping me.”
The voice came again and Mia paused for a second before she shoved other necessary items in and stowed the tall top hat in her purse.
The hat could be folded in such a way that it would fit in her purse without being too noticeable.
“You are innocent. It’s normal for me to help you,” Mia replied and without looking at the mirror, she added. “They wrongfully accused you.”
The transcendental... Her master who taught her and who opened a door to a new world was locked up in a jail after being unjustly accused.
For Mia it was normal to help her master, even if such an action would lead her to become an enemy of the authorities.
“Thank you... Today your mission is important,” said her master and pausing for a second, she revealed. “If the plan fails, I need you to hide Zack’s body... The strongest Transcendental of all.”
Mia raised her head looking at her reflection and the light blue eye.
The mission they had given her was not to confront the authorities or go with the major group, but her task was going to be to take care of the real body of the one known as the strongest Transcendental of all.
The curious thing was that the Transcendental never mentioned anything about a plan in case they failed and it was likely that in the vocabulary of the ruler of the city’s underworld there was no such thing as ‘fail’.
So she found her master’s request, odd.
“We never know what may happen. However, I want him to be safe.... Zack is taking too much risk without thinking too much about it,” said her master.
So once they failed her master wanted to protect the strongest transcendental of all? Mia turned her head to the mirror seeing in the reflection the figure of her master and sighed.
“I should be a bit like him, master,” Mia muttered and giving her a smile, she added. “Be more confident.”
The light blue eye lingered on her, and then subtly disappeared without a response.
Her master had been locked up for a long time and when she connected with her, the first time she didn’t control or manipulate her, but freely helped her and in payment asked to be released.
Despite the request, her master never demanded that she do anything crazy or risk her life... Mia respected her master for how kind she was and also admired her, as despite being angry, she didn’t take it out on just anyone.
Mia went through her clothes again and left her room, heading to the living room to leave the apartment.
She was in a downtown apartment and even though she wanted to leave without making noise or drawing attention to herself; she heard someone come from the kitchen.
“Where are you going?”
The loud, feminine voice sounded behind her back and Mia turned to see the person who had just spoken to her.
It was impossible not to recognize this woman, and it wasn’t because of how pretty she was or the seriousness in the black eyes, but because of the reputation and image.
Melissa the Prophet was frowning at the sight of her dressed up wanting to go out.
“I’m going with some friends,” Mia replied turning around again, but the woman walked over and stepped in front of her.
“You can’t go out,” the prophet Melissa stated.
“Why?” Mia asked and just as she expected there was no answer.
Melissa bit her lips and frowned, but nothing came out of her mouth.
The great and amazing Prophet Melissa, so admired and respected by superheroes in the city and worldwide, could not speak openly about what was going on.
“If you can’t say it, just move,” Mia said and her voice came out some anger.
Anger... No matter how many times she tried to avoid it, her emotions would come up and anger would appear against her sister.
“It’s not like you care too much about me,” Mia muttered and instantly regretted it.
Not from seeing her sister with a hurt expression, but seeing her surprise and inability to understand what she was referring to.
Yes. Her amazing sister was the kind of person who helped and sought to save the world, but her eagerness and stubbornness led her to firmly believe in her perspective as the only one.
She didn’t see the mistakes she made or if she did notice them she took them as mistakes she overlooked, not wondering the harm it caused.
Just as when she had the prophecy to lock up her master or when she left her thousands of times before and of those times very few were for the greater good... Melissa, the Great Prophet, gave up everything, even her family relationships, not for the salvation of the world, but for her fame.
Fame that now took its toll on her with every end of the world she saw and led her to blindly believe without questioning her abilities.
“Just get a move on. I’m going with some friends to the mall on the north side of town,” Mia said realizing her emotions were intermingling.
She was mixing her resentment that her sister would cast her aside with the annoyance she felt that her sister never questioned the prophecies she had.
The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
“Okay... Take good care of yourself, please. If anything happens, go to the mall bunkers or follow the authorities,” Melissa requested and Mia simply walked out of the building and headed for the elevator without looking back.
Mia mentioned directly that she was going to the north end mall and Melissa let her out, because she would be going away from the coast where the lighthouse was and it was also a place farther away than these apartments and in a way safer.
As she entered and touched the button to go down, she stopped and lowered her head for a few seconds.
“I’m still a child, master,” Mia muttered under her breath.
She was still continuing to let her emotions take their worst side, despite the fact that she was a psychic who should have high control over her mind and emotions.
A soft chuckle rippled through her mind and her master extended a mental wave to give her warmth and calm.
—You are, but it’s okay. As long as you understand, you will reflect on it and eventually be willing to forgive. Your sister cares for you in her own way and her powers have given her responsibilities since she was young. —said the transcendental.
The kind and pleasant voice was soothing and carried no tone of scolding, no superiority in the advice, but warmth and care that Mia could not retort.
Forgive... Perhaps her master had already forgiven Melissa for giving an incorrect prophecy about her.
Still, Mia couldn’t respond.
It was hard to forgive her sister who cast her aside and whose greatness, made her a shadow of someone she could never reach... However, she was no longer a shadow.
Mia taking the elevator down to the second floor stepped out and after walking one street descended to the subway parking lot and going to a secluded area pulled out her tall top hat and as she tossed it upward, the top hat grew to swallow her whole.
As the hat rose, she appeared in the parking lot of the mall on the north side of the city and there she noticed Jonathan in whose arms she held the young master.
“The mall will initiate the alarm. Descend into the bunker once it happens and hide,” Jonathan said and looking at her seriously, he ordered. “Take care of the young master’s body, please.”
Jonathan was considered the Transcendental’s right-hand man and was on equal footing with Donovan, but the seriousness he was showing now was superior to a superior and subordinate relationship.
—Go now babysitter. The girl has useful skills and I can use her body if needed. —Said the child Jonathan carried in his arms.
The child floated as his eyes glowed purple and waving his hand, he telekinesis’d the baby carriage out of the car and then lay down inside, waving his hand for them to move.
Jonathan, who was called a babysitter, sighed and drove in the car out of the parking lot, leaving them both alone.
Mia instead of asking questions moved the baby carriage towards the exit and then on her way out she headed for the shopping mall that was in the area.
As usual, this mall was crowded, and many people were visiting, but she noticed the security and supers guarding everything and the authorities’ cars flying between the buildings.
Officially, she would be working as a babysitter to earn extra money and was babysitting Zack... Such an idea was the alibi she had if something happened, but the actual mission was to protect the real body.
Actually, ‘protect’ was a half-baked question and more accurate would be to say that she was to be the body that the transcendental would possess to wield his power should the need arise.
A vessel for a being of great power.
“...”
Mia as she entered the mall noticed how the boy who was about to turn two had his eyes closed and hesitating for a moment about asking what he was doing, she heard the siren of the city.
This was not a siren of a superhero battle that only required activating the building’s defense, but a siren of greater danger.
“Please, everyone go to the nearest bunker. Slowly and orderly. The authorities are on the move.”
The voice from loudspeakers set up throughout the city boomed into the building and the superheroes who were protecting the supermarket along with the workers gave orders.
“Come. From this elevator you will go to the subway bunker.”
A strange octopus moved tentacles pointing at the elevators in the mall and people moved orderly through the area.
This was not the first time this situation had occurred, and the authorities were to conduct several drills several times each year of different types of alarms and while this was the biggest of them all, no one was surprised.
The reason was that even if people did not make it to a bunker; the authorities had the means to get people to be sheltered and this time that measure was used.
Mia felt a space wave approaching and after a second it caught her, instantly moving her inside a giant subway metal dome.
Tens of thousands of people were inside and the most surprising thing was not the number or the size, but the authorities and the automatic security robots that were in the area to take care of all the people.
Those robots would unite the separated families and even take care of monitoring and avoiding conflicts or answering questions about what would happen.
Although there were cars that were manually driven, each vehicle had an artificial intelligence that would take care of the movement and driving of those who were teleported.
This first space wave could be resisted and was launched for those who could not move or had difficulty finding a bunker, but then the other space waves would be launched until all the citizens of the city were moved to safe areas.
Although these bunkers were highly secure and there were multiple code reds with both magical and other artifacts guarding the area, it actually at this time became the area of greatest danger.
After all, this was where the minds of all the people in the city were being gathered.
“Remember to stay calm and...”
The octopus that was in the mall and was giving orders stopped and suddenly the people in the surrounding area stopped as well.
Men, women, children, old people, the supers, superheroes and anyone who was in the area, no matter if it was a puny super or a Code Red... Every one of them stopped and suddenly eyes glowed and the color purple took over.
Thousands and thousands of people stopped and the next instant they kept moving without realizing that they were controlled by a powerful being.
One that sought to control the entire city.
*******
Zack’s eyes widened as he returned to the body of the Donovan boy, who was surrounded by local authorities.
Multiple red codes, some were using firearms to target him and others swords and even magic.
Mental waves were coming from all over the city where the various minions he had distributed throughout the area were.
Today was an important day in which he would release the most brilliant transcendental and to do so he did not hold back.
He extended his control to every bunker and was taking control of hundreds of thousands of people and whose numbers were increasing more and more.
The mental energy he gathered from the lower beings was tiny, but when hundreds of thousands were gathered and those thousands became millions... Zack took a deep breath from the boy’s body.
“Stop right now or...”
A humanoid tiger that was about to speak did not finish his words, as the feline eyes glowed purple.
The same happened with the others and the tension that was palpable before disappeared as they moved to accomplish the tasks they had before, but this time being controlled by him.
Getting them to continue fulfilling the missions they had and reporting back was a means to fool the cameras watching and the security members, but the most important thing was not to fool, but to use the mental energy of those supers.
Zack had mentioned to the babysitter that if anything went wrong, he would control the minds of the entire city, but after thinking about it, he decided that instead of expecting the worst, he would take the situation as the worst.
Which meant that he was gathering the mental power of the entire city that was soon to be controlled by him... Literally, every living thing capable of thought would be controlled by him.
“I’m waiting for you, master.”
From the communication system the babysitter’s voice rang out and Zack looked down the street at the two who were on the move.
The authorities who were in charge of helping people and carrying out the evacuation protocol were ignoring him and it wasn’t because the car had any means of concealment, it was because the authorities themselves were being controlled by him.
Zack smiled brightly as he continued to work on extending his control.
Splitting his mind and thoughts to work on different tasks was easy.
Mind sorcerers could split his minds or create minds to help them think and Gods at a higher level had ‘wills’ that allowed them to be in multiple places at the same time.
However, a mind being like him had a greater facility in controlling multiple bodies and minds at the same time.
Of course, it was a nuisance, so Zack preferred to let them continue to believe they were in control while he extracted their mental energy and prevented them from attacking or going against him.
As he watched two cars approach, Zack noticed that in the second car with tinted windows was the enhanced minions and he made his way to the first car.
“Get in, young master,” said the babysitter as the door opened.
Zack got in and looked at the babysitter who was driving and stared at him for quite a while.
The reason was that the way the babysitter was hiding... The babysitter didn’t look the best and always looked, tired and thin, but this time he was inhumanly strange.
A man with gray skin, no hair at all, a mouth with black teeth and a hollow nose turned inward, while the eyes remained closed as if they were glued together.
“At least you’re wearing your clothes,” Zack muttered looking at the bright purple suit the babysitter wore and then, looking at the man, added. “I won’t judge your appearance, babysitter. I’ve seen uglier beings than you.”
“It is necessary to hide me, young master,” said the babysitter with a slight tremble of his lips and looking in the rearview mirror, he muttered. “And thank you for not judging. I’ll probably have to take on the appearance of something more gruesome than this.”
The babysitter’s murmur was quiet even though he was talking about revealing his darkness and using the ability to change his body just as he was doing right now.
The babysitter was not looking for moral support or acceptance and this time he was determined to help and Zack understanding his will, accepted it.
If he wished to use his abilities and show his darkness, he could do so... For, if he was swallowed by it again, Zack could intervene like last time.
Zack took a deep breath and felt the magnitude of the power of closing in on his body.
At this point he was controlling too many people to the point that the boy’s body would not be able to withstand the mental power of so many inferior beings.
However, it was not necessary for the child to withstand it... If he went all out from the beginning; it meant that he had to show himself completely.
Zack smiled confidently.
