CHAPTER 4

I jolted awake, my heart pounding in my chest as the unfamiliar voice echoed in my ears. I found myself standing in a grand throne room, unlike anything I had ever seen before. The walls were adorned with intricate decorations and glittering jewels, and the air was thick with the scent of incense and spices.

But what caught my attention most was the large man sitting on the glimmering throne before me. He was an imposing figure, with broad shoulders and a regal bearing that commanded respect. His eyes were piercing, seeming to see straight into my soul as he spoke.

"You died, Ryusei," he said, his voice deep and resonant. "The pain you felt in your chest minutes ago was a heart attack."

I stared at him in disbelief, my mind reeling from his words. This had to be a dream, I thought desperately. There was no way I could be dead. I was only 27 years old, for God's sake. People my age didn't just drop dead from heart attacks.

But even as I tried to convince myself that this was all just a figment of my imagination, a sinking feeling settled in the pit of my stomach. The pain in my chest had been real, I realized with a growing sense of dread. And now, here I was, in a place that couldn't possibly exist, facing a man who claimed that I had died.

"You worked too many hours and didn't take care of yourself," the man continued, his expression a mix of pity and reproach. "Heart attacks happen, and a catastrophic one happened to you."

I shook my head, still struggling to wrap my mind around the situation. "Who are you?" I demanded, my voice trembling slightly. "And why am I here if I'm dead? Shouldn't I see darkness, or pearly gates, or something?"

The man stood up from his throne and began to walk towards me, his footsteps echoing in the cavernous room. As he drew closer, I could see the lines of wisdom etched into his face, and the glint of something ancient and powerful in his eyes.

"I am Gideon," he said, his voice soft but commanding. "And I am giving you an opportunity to live again."

I stared at him, my mouth agape with shock and confusion. Live again? What did that even mean? How could I possibly come back from the dead, after suffering a catastrophic heart attack?

But even as the questions swirled in my mind, I felt a flicker of hope spark to life in my chest. If what Gideon was saying was true, if I really had died and was now being offered a second chance at life, then maybe there was still hope for me. Maybe I could make things right, could become the person I had always wanted to be.

I took a deep breath, trying to steady my nerves as I faced Gideon. "What do you mean, an opportunity to live again?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

Gideon smiled then, a gentle, knowing smile that seemed to hold the secrets of the universe. "I mean exactly what I said, Ryusei," he replied. "You have been chosen for a special purpose, a destiny that only you can fulfill. But in order to do so, you must first be reborn into a new world, a world where your talents and abilities will be put to the ultimate test."

I felt a shiver run down my spine at his words, a mixture of fear and excitement that I had never experienced before. A new world? A special purpose? It all sounded too good to be true, like something out of one of the fantasy novels I had always loved.

But as I looked into Gideon's eyes, I saw the truth reflected there. He wasn't lying, or playing some cruel trick on me. He was offering me a genuine second chance, a chance to start over and make something of myself.

And in that moment, I knew that I had to take it. I had to seize this opportunity, no matter how terrifying or uncertain it might be. Because the alternative - an eternity of darkness and regret - was simply too much to bear.

"I'll do it," I said, my voice trembling with a mixture of fear and determination. "I'll take your offer, Gideon. I'll be reborn into this new world, and I'll fulfill whatever destiny you have in store for me."

Gideon nodded, a look of approval and pride flickering across his face. "I knew you would, Ryusei," he said softly. "Your heart has always been pure, even if your body was not. And now, you will have the chance to prove yourself, to become the hero that you were always meant to be."

And with those words, he placed his hand on my shoulder, and the world around me began to fade away. I felt a rush of energy surge through my body, a tingling sensation that started at my toes and worked its way up to the top of my head.

And then, with a blinding flash of light, everything went dark. But even in that darkness, I could feel the promise of a new beginning, a chance to start over and make things right.

I had died, but I had been reborn. And now, it was up to me to make the most of this second chance, to become the hero that Gideon believed I could be.
