The perspective of a rat

Rats, rats, and rats- the humans above have little regard for our existence. Countless rats die by their hands daily. Such is life for rats: a depressing, miserable experience. No one would ever want to be a rat. We are pest, unwanted by all except by other pests (lice and fleas). We spread diseases, and we are culled in mass by poison and by force.

So, are there benefits to being a rat? Yes, but the negatives far outweigh what miniscule benefit can be derived from being a rat. Rats are good at sneaking into places that they don't "belong". Like in a human's pantry, though it isn't uncommon for stuff exposed blatantly to be traps meant to trap and kill our kind.

Dogs-cheerful big bastards-they're like us rats, but they're just supersized. Goons of the humans, worthless leeches-Hypocritical? Yes, but that does not matter much. We are the lesser leeches; at least we eat the scraps instead creating more waste. Biased? Yes, but aren't we all?

The humans are the worst of all: they are the problems plaguing this world. They pollute our lands, destroy our habitats, and hunt our grasslands empty. The world would be a better place without humans. They claim to be the best animal on Earth, yet they are the most destructive, sadistic, and manipulative bunch out of us all. In my eyes, they are even less than rats. At least we don't actively and deliberately harm our planet out of greed and malice. We do what we do in order to survive. Just look at the impoverished humans, and you'll see the starkly similarities. These humans have the belief that they are the center of everything; that they are ones who invented everything; that they were the masters. Such arrogance! SO pretentious. These humans claim to be moral paragons that have "ethics". For example, humans forbid each other from experimenting on humans, yet not on rats. Is it because we aren't as "intelligent" as you humans? Is it because we're "just" rats? Or is it that you think only humans and their pets deserve rights? You assert that you are righteous, moral, and in good standing with "God", yet you contradict your values and principles on all occasions. "Oh! Humans feel pain and can be traumatized by negative experiences." So can rats, yet we are treated inhumanely.

Enough-I'm done venting. I shall describe my experiences henceforth.

As a rat, I've never had much in life. But I was grateful for what I did have: shelter, food, and water. Though the locations from which these resources are obtained are of suspect quality, us rats have adapted to these circumstances because we had to, or we died.

I lived within the walls of a human housing. I was born here. There had been a time when the homeowner was evicted because he had gone bankrupt, the food scraps had been devoured, and there were not even scraps remaining. My own mother had tried to eat me, but I was a fast one; I was proficient in running, particularly from plus sized humans. They were too well-endowed with fat and too unfit to catch a rat as nimble as me. Instead, she opted for my fatter brothers and sisters; they should have exercised more.

Of course, my mother could not finish her gigantic feast alone, so during a clandestine operation to liberate some of her food into my stomach, I ate what I could fit. While feasting on my siblings' flesh, my mother had spotted me. I booked it. I ran like a rat on steroids away from my mother. Thank God that she was so fat. Otherwise, I may not even be alive to write this short text.

What now? My mother is quite the dumb thing. She will forget all about me in awhile. So I will hide for a bit, and she will not bother me then.
