Book 1 Summary

After Hail is rescued from his misadventure and powerleveled to level 5, he returns with his new friends to Zhesa city, and after an encounter with the king and Severus, he is allowed to join their guild. This garners a significant amount of attention, as Hail is the first NPC to join a player guild.

Laurant promises to help Hail level, and after bringing him to fight slimes for a while, they go to a dungeon with a small party. They successfully clear the dungeon. However, upon defeating the last boss, an event is triggered in which all of the players die, with Hail narrowly escaping.

Hail is troubled by the deaths of his friends until he is visited by Thomas the administrator, who reassures him that all the players lost was a bit of experience. When Hail returns home, he examines his spoils from the dungeon. He received one [Dungeon Daughter Core], which he promptly [Uses] without realizing the significance of his actions. This starts a timer, but provides no other warning, so he simply sticks it in his wardrobe to examine later.

Hail is invited to a guild party, where he reunites with his friends who died in the dungeon and learns that they gained very powerful permanent buffs for the trouble. Additionally, his guild learns that simply spending time with Hail and teaching him things spreads a [Mark of Karma], which increases their stats and experience gained by a small margin.

Hail is level capped at level 10 until he can unlock a class other than child, and after a bit of experimentation they realize that he can unlock classes by learning that classes required abilities. However, Hail is indecisive about which class he wants, and unwilling to commit to any.

While he is exploring his abilities and trying to decide his future, Hail acquires a loyal follower, Tarisha of Miami, a high level roleplayer who pledges herself and most of her guild to his service.

The timer of the dungeon core ticks down to zero, claiming Zhesa Castle and turning it into a dungeon. Together with Tarisha, Hail spreads a number of quests to rescue the residents of the castle who were trapped. However, when he encounters his grandfather, he is too afraid to admit his culpability.

Around this time, Hail unlocks a class which he believes will suit him; [Spellblade]. He resumes leveling with his friends, and discovers that he possesses the ability to alter Lairs, regions of high monster density, in such ways as creating Rare spawns. When he visits his grandfather again, he is called out on his activities in this regard, and he admits his role in the creation of the dungeon as well.

As punishment, Hail is sent back to Gemos Caverns, which has evolved into a higher level dungeon, and instructed to reclaim its core, if he can. While Players are unable to interact with Dungeon Cores, but Hail is uniquely able to bring them into the core instance where they reside in order to destroy or evolve the dungeon. Alongside Tarisha, Laurant, and a few of Tarisha’s allies, Hail clears Gemos Caverns once more, overcoming both the gauntlet where his friend wiped previously and a new hidden boss. He returns to his grandfather, and although he is troubled by certain events, he hands over the core he acquired in the dungeon. However, the core resonates with the one in Zhesa Castle. They combine, forming a raid.

Zhesa Castle had not garnered much attention from the raiders of the game previously; however, they promptly showed up after its transformation in order to attempt to achieve the worlds first clear. Among those who appear is Gideon Lachlann, Hail’s father, who is approached about the possibility of busting the raid by escorting Hail inside and exploiting his unique ability to drag Travelers/Players into the core instance. Gideon is excited to give this a try, and promptly agrees to an arrangement with King Rain.

Gideon’s raid team proves to be as skilled as Hail always dreamed they would be, and they successfully clear the raid. However, during the final encounter, the castle is largely destroyed. Hail destroys the raid core, and receives for his efforts one hundred new dungeon cores.

As a reward for their accomplishment, the raiders of , Gideon’s guild, were to be knighted in a canon ceremony. Additionally, Hail is raised to the rank of Earl and awarded the lands of North Shire and Thorn March. However, tragedy strikes. One of the members of , Nial, kills King Rain and names himself Kingslayer.

Hail attempts to defend his grandfather, but is easily defeated by Nial. He is whisked away by the god Thedum, to whom Hail prays for the ability to enact vengeance. Thedum agrees to temporarily give Hail the power of a worldboss in exchange for becoming the god’s avatar. Hail returns to the battleground, defeats Nial and kills the majority of the members of . However, his transformation into a worldboss gains the attention of the rest of the endgame community, which appears to fight him without understanding the circumstances. While it takes several guilds working together, Hail is slain once more.

His awareness is sent to a place called the lobby, and he is greeted by Thomas the administrator, who explains that neither he nor his grandfather are truly dead. However, while Hail possesses [Blood of the Travelers], an ability which makes him canonically immortal, his grandfather has died a canon death and will not be able to return to Lagrea as King Rain.
