I awoke and walked out of my tent to see the grim faces of Erik and Jhon outside my tent.
"Haha don't look so down brat death awaits all of us, it only finds the soldier first," Said Erik
As if to echo his statement Jhon said "at least for the weak the strong cultivators can live thousands of years, but if one of those monsters even existed they wouldn't even bat an eye at this battlefield"
I thought to myself that the small things in life were really the only things to live for up until now. But it had changed now I had companions and a set path.
"As long as the three of us survive today it will be a good day I said"
For a moment they seemed to be taken back by my sentiment. Then they looked at each other and smiled.
"Of course brat, pray to the god of the battlefield or whatever you believe in" Said Erik
After that, the three of us walked wordlessly to join up with our battalions. The enemy that we faced I knew nothing about but it didn't matter. Right or wrong did not matter in the face of one's own death.
The layout battlefield was a valley with giant rocks the size of hills scattered in it. I made sure my tiny crossbow was loaded and my armor was adjusted.
The commander yelled out "For glory, For honor, for the Empire... CHARGE!
The two armies swept down the hillsides and with me at the front yet again. Except for this time as a soldier, I smashed into an enemy soldier with my shield and sent him flying.
Without sparing a thought I slashed out at the next enemy he tried to parry but misjudged the power behind my blade.
His sword was knocked out of his hand, I drew another arch with my sword aiming at his neck. My sword clunked against his shield and he pushed me back. When I lowered my shield to view him to fight again he was nowhere to be seen. Had he had run away?
Upon seeing my strength the enemy soldiers seemed hesitant to fight me. That was fine because I couldn't do anything if they had all come at once. This was the disparity in strength between an ordinary man and a cultivator.
Cutting people down in the field or knocking them back with my shield I charged through the field.

Until I finally ran into a man the size of a giant.
I slashed out and he met it head-on "fool I muttered" every soldier that had taken my slashes before had gotten knocked back
But not this man he blocked firmly with his massive two-handed sword.
Another 10 sword swipes later he seemed to get frustrated.
"Just die already scum" He yelled
He pulled the sword above his head and crushed down. I knew I couldn't block with my sword so released it and raised my shield up with two arms.
The blow was heavy but I managed to glance it off to one side and while his sword was to my side I promptly shot him in the face with my crossbow. The bolt stuck in his cheek he seemed to have realized he had been tricked but by then it was too late. His movements drastically slowed and his breathing became heavy giving me time to retrieve my sword.
My shield was now tattered and useless and my sword was curved at an odd angle. He let out a roar and swiped at me with his arm but its speed had halved so I easily dodged and pierced his throat with a quick jab.
The battlefield was becoming desolate now most of the army had died off and it seemed like our side had gained the advantage. Hope shined down on me like a ray of light from the heavens.
Right at that moment from the other side of the battlefield, a group of knights on horses charged down into the fray.
And from them, there was a distinctive ripple of quix.
They carried a banner and on it was a symbol I faintly recalled.
It was the symbol of reincarnation and a powerful one at that.
Where ever the group of knights went in the battlefield a one-sided slaughter occurred.
I knew that even if I fought them in a perfect state there would be no chance of winning.
So with that concluded I decided to run away and not throw away my life here.
I turned to walk away when I saw the direction the knights were headed.
It was towards the captain's tent at that moment I resolved my heart to stop them.
With no way to win, I had to stall them while she escaped.
I hopped onto a huge boulder in between the charging knights and the captain's tent.
As soon as they came near I picked up a stone and chucked it directly at the head knight.
Ding* The rock bounced off his helmet
Immediately a few knights jumped off there horses and tried to climb up the rock. But under the hail of poison crossbow bolts, they made very little progress.
Eventually, though the head knight proceeded to climb up the rock. I shot down at him but he seemed to have a way to solidify his quix to block the arrows.
So I pulled over the heaviest boulder I could find and dropped it squarely on his face.
The sheer weight alone knocked him down the rock face, he got up unwounded but seemingly angry.
One of the knights walked back to his horse and pulled out a bow.
"Dumbass I thought I'm not gonna get hit by that"
I made eye contact with the captain of the squad and instantly became unable to move.
This must be one of the other workers' unique abilities. I could only watch my own death approach as the archer pulled back his bow and let his arrow fly.
I laughed to myself having hoped for a day to have a happy life. At least I had stalled them for long enough that the captain had a chance to flee.
I thought as the arrow struck me with tremendous force and knocked me backward into a ravine and everything went black.
