The Psychic Gamer Chapter 5 - Zombies Galore
Issei’s POV
I smirked and cracked my knuckles as Lucifer pressed Tier 3 on his menu.

I read through the Quest as it popped up in my vision before we were transported into the dungeon.
Immediately we recognised the differences, we were in a city except this one was different, it had massive skyscrapers, large streets, rusted and broken cars littered across the road and buildings that had holes in their sides, some still standing, others in pieces.
I activated my Boosted Gear, making its presence known with a mighty roar “BOOST!!” I glanced around as I watched the buildings around us.
“This is New York” whispered Lucifer “We’re in Times Square” I looked around, recognising the iconic place.
“Over there” Lucifer pointed to the first group of zombies as a massive size of about 50 plus another 5 runners and 5 brawlers.
“They’re Level 20, the brawler/runners are 25” Lucifer said as the group turned towards us, dressed in random bits of old and torn clothing, they started shambling towards us, the runners breaking ahead of the large group, the brawlers following close behind.
I smirked as another “BOOST!!” rang out before I charged forward, fire imbue causing my fists to alight, two spikes flew past me as they slammed into two runners and threw them into two brutes, the spikes and bodies slowing the brawlers down.
I clashed with two runners first, my fist blowing one apart as the other charged at me, I backed away from a swipe, the attack missing by inches as my leg came up and sent the runner’s body flying into the mass of zombies.
The last runner tried it’s luck but was swatted away by my gauntlet, the claws tearing through its skin as I gripped its torso and used it as a club to bat a brawler who had gotten close to me, it getting dazed as I followed up with a front kick to its torso.
The kick dented its chest and sent it tumbling away, not dead. I was incapable of thinking about it as two more brawlers arrived at my sides, the flames on my fists lighting up as I punched one in the face, another punch flying forward as it stumbled back, slamming into its head, blowing it apart.
“BOOST!!” The second slammed its meaty arms into my side, my arms coming up to block the hit, my speed and power increasing as I shouldered the hit and pushed it back before slamming my fist into its face, blowing its head to pieces in one hit now.
The third brawler, the last one who hadn’t been slowed down by Lucifer appeared and in a one swift punch it was dispatched.
The last two brawlers laid dead on the ground, flames still burning on their bodies as I turned to see Lucifer, flames gathered around his hands as he launched a fireball into the group of zombies.
I smirked as I jumped in myself.
Lucifer’s POV a few minutes earlier
I watched Issei start ripping apart the runners as I turned my attention to the two brawlers I had slowed down and the horde behind them.
My Psychic Spike was stronger but I needed something with more AOE potential and that’s when I remembered about Devil Magic.
“I hope this works” I searched for the mental switch for my Devil Magic and found it, I thought about what I wanted, everything about it, my INT and WIS allowing me to form the magic I wanted in seconds.
I held my hands at my sides as flames gathered in my palms, I imagined its temperature, its colour, its feel, everything I could, I built a perfect mental image as the flames changed form.
The flames became denser as I poured mana into the spell, they became smoother before I threw my hands forward, the fireballs blasting with another application of mana.
The fireballs tore through the air and slammed into the brawlers, the flames expanding and encompassing the brawlers as they roared in defiance.
By the time they had hit their targets, two more fireballs had formed in my hands and I let them fly as they blasted into the brawlers sending them into the ground in pieces.
I shifted uncomfortably, pulling my shirt up slightly so it stopped weighing down on my tail ‘I should cut a few holes in some shirts for my tail to use in the dungeon because this is annoying’.
I watched Issei move onto the brawlers, another “BOOST!” ringing out as I turned my attention to the last zombies, glancing at my MP bar as I did, those fireballs had taken 300MP.
I charged at the horde as my enhanced mind thought up attacks that could work before I settled on one.
I stopped about 40ft from the horde, my arm coming across my body as it alighted in fire before I swiped it across the air in front of me, a wave of fire slamming into the front of the group.
Zombies dropped to the ground as their body’s burned, I saw issei jump into their ranks as he started pummeling them and I waited and backed off as he finished off the horde.
About 3 minutes later he came walking over, his gauntlet being desummed as he walked.
“That was cool, that fire attack you did was cool as hell!” Issei said as he stood in front of me.
“Yeah, it's that Devil Magic, it's quite versatile” Issei nodded “How do I do it?” he asked.
“Read it in your Status, it tells you how to, i’m not sure if it's easier for me because of my int and wis but when you boost it should be easier”.
Incorrect Gamer, The Boosted Gear does not improve issei’s mental faculties, his boosted INT and WIS only affect his magic.
The Game still does help him slightly but most of it will be his own mind’s power.
I nodded as Issei brought up his hand as he tried to imagine a spell, a flame flickered in his palm before it disappeared and he let out a breath, panting slightly.
“That’s hard” he said and I chuckled “you just need practice” he responded with a nod.
“So should we head out and start killing?” Issei asked, I nodded.
“You want to scout around and find the next group?” I asked and Issei nodded.
We ended up finding three more groups of the same size that we dispatched in much the same way before we found something different, in a building, a chest.
Issei went to charge at it before I said something that made him stop “might be a mimic”.
He then glared at it trying to figure out its secrets, I just threw a rock at it with TK.
The rock slammed against it doing nothing so I shrugged, summoned Shinsetsu and opened the chest with the tip of Shinsetsu’s blade.
Loot chest found!

I smiled as I looked into it, a menu appearing in front of us.
1000 Credits
Two Simple Potions of Healing
Two Related Skill Scrolls
I stared at the screen, the only thing I understood was the potions.
Hello, I am here again to explain, first off the amount of loot chests in the dungeon is now shown on the Tier 3 ID Quest.
Secondly, credits are used in the shop which is unlocked at a certain level.
Thirdly, skill scrolls give a random skill. Related Skills will randomly pick a skill on your skill list and give you something related to that skill.
For example, if it picked Shinsetsu, it would give you a sword style or a skill to buff swords in some way. If it was Devil Magic, it would give you a skill that improved it or made it easier to use.
I nodded as I gave one related skill scroll to Issei, taking the other for myself, the potions going in my inventory.
I let Issei use his first since he had less skills and the skill that was chosen was his Boosted Gear, our responses were his “Yay!” and my “bullshit”.
A column appeared that started scrolling, names could be seen on it and the skill it landed on was Fire Punch, Issei immediately let out an indignant “hey!” as he glared at the selection, going to his Stat Sheet as I mimicked him.
Fire Punch (Can be Upgraded):
Fire Punch allows the user to coat and empower a punch with fire.
Effects:
Whenever you throw a punch, you can activate Fire Punch to give the punch more explosive and fire damage, the fire also leaps onto what the punch makes contact with.
Costs: 200MP
Issei grumbled “I can already do that” the game then chimed in.
Incorrect, you could do what the skill describes but it would be hard for you to maintain because of your low INT and WIS.
Issei lifted his fist using Fire Imbue to light his fist on fire as he glanced at it in annoyance.
Again you aren’t doing it correctly.
How do you deal with him?
That last part was directed at me, since Issei didn’t react, I assumed the game was just talking to me, I laughed as I felt frustration from the game.
Fire Punch does a lot more than that, the way you are using Fire Imbue is just coating your hand in fire as you fight, that is barely doing anything, it hurts yes but Zombies don’t feel pain or don’t have the mental abilities for it to register.
The flames don’t stay around, Fire Punch pushes the flames onto or into your opponent, actively trying to burn them.
Issei sighed as he listened to the game “but I could end up doing it?”,
Yes. you could do it with Fire Imbue, it would take a lot more MP and brain power, with the Gamer’s stats as they are, in particular his INT and WIS, he could do it but it would still take a lot of MP.
Issei nodded as he then looked at me with a smirk, seemingly hoping I would get something like his Skill.
I sighed as I lifted the scroll and used it.
Skill Rolling.
Skill Picked: Shinsetsu.
Skill Rolling.
Skill Acquired: Adapted Sword Style (LVL MAX).
I quickly opened the skil, showing it to Issei as well.
Adapted Sword Style (LVL MAX):
The sword style is adapted from others, choose from other sword styles you have acquired(3 Maximum) and this skill will make a new sword style based around them and then it will evolve.
Chosen Styles:
None
Issei began laughing as I glared at him, I quickly closed the menu and let out a sigh “nothing useful right now but that doesn’t matter much”, I pulled up the Quest for the Tier 3 ID.
Zombie ID Tier 3:
This is the Tier 3 Zombie ID, complete all objectives.
Objective 1: Kill Zombies 50/1000
Objective 2: Kill Zombie Runners 5/300
Objective 3: Kill Zombie Brawlers 5/300
Objective 4: Find and Kill Mini-Bosses 0/10
Objective 5: Complete all other objectives to spawn the Tier 3 Boss 0/4
Optional Objective: Find All Loot Chests 1/10
Rewards: 10000 EXP Each, ?X2, ?X2, ?X2
Optional Rewards: 1000 EXP Each
I nodded “we have to find 9 more of these chests” . I pointed to the chest as Issei nodded.
“Let’s get moving then!” He said loudly as he ran out, I let out a sigh as I went to follow, I stopped as I looked up “OH shit!” Issei shouted as his body came flying through the wall as it slammed into me, sending us both tumbling to the ground.
We continued to roll, Issei stopping as he reoriented himself, I kept going until I hit a wall, groaning as I sat against it.
Issei stood up, seriousness oozing from him as he glared at the hole his body made.
I was down to 15 hp from that. It hurt like hell. The pain disappeared after a second as Gamer’s Body kicked in.
“What the hell was that?” I asked as I slowly stood up, Issei pointed at the hole as I looked at it.
The dust hadn’t settled yet, the only thing I could see were two large, glowing red eyes, a low growling sound came from that direction.
The feeling those eyes gave me as they moved from issei to me gave me goosebumps, my instincts were screaming at me to run but I wouldn’t, i couldn’t beat whatever this was but I had issei with me.
I immediately pulled out a health potion and chugged it down.
The thing slowly stepped through the hole as its form was revealed to us.
A massive beast, one about 25 ft long and 15 ft tall, it stood on four boney legs.
It had no skin, a creature of bone as Its skeletal head peered down at us from its height advantage.
It was a skeleton, dog or wolf type creature, I wasn’t sure, the HUD told me what it was
Skeleton Hound - Mini Boss
HP = 500/500
MP = 0/0
SP = NA
The Companion of the Zombie Spawner.
“Oh shit, Issei it's a-” I was cut off as the creature shot forward, at speeds I couldn’t reach but with my INT and WIS I was capable of seeing its speed.
Its claws slammed into Issei’s Boosted Gear, I assumed he had activated it outside when he was attacked.
Issei’s Boosted Gear held the attack back, as he pulled back a fist and threw it forward, Fire Punch activating as his fist slammed into the Hound’s face, dazing it as the fire burst outwards, wrapping itself around the Hound’s bony face.
The fire seemed ineffective as the Hound headbutted Issei before its long bony tail swung around, slamming into Issei’s stomach with a loud thwack as he was thrown to the side and through another wall.
I growled, my Instincts still screaming as I glanced behind the creature whose eyes settled on me, I saw a small zombie holding a vial “fuck!” I mumbled as I raised a hand.
I narrowed my eyes as the creature shot forward again, I scoffed, my body couldn’t react but It didn’t have to, my mind could and my entire class was based around the mind.
Psychic energy flared as the Hound slashed its claws at me, its attacks stopped in its tracks as Psychic Energy slammed into its claws stopping it in its tracks.
I smirked as MP gathered in my palm, my hand thrusted forward as two Spikes of PE slammed into the ribs of the beast, piercing through it as it jumped back, suddenly wary of me.
It went to attack again but was stopped when a “Boost!” sounded out from its side, a kick to its ribs following the sound as it flew away, it quickly righted and stopped itself as it growled at Issei.
I had no clue how it was making sounds.
“What were you saying?” Issei asked as he kept his eyes on the Hound.
I sighed, keeping my eyes on the Hound as I spoke “It’s called Skeletal Hound, a Mini Boss, 500 HP and it’s the companion of the spawner” I gestured back to the hole where the spawner now was.
Issei glanced at it before settling his gaze on the Hound “you take the spawner, i’ll take the hound?” he asked and I nodded as I turned to the spawner, Issei jumped into action as he charged at the Hound and engaged it in combat.
I turned my attention to the spawner who had thrown a vial in front of him, the vial had spawned 8 zombies and they had started walking towards me, they weren’t stumbling anymore.
I had noticed the zombies in this tier had seemed more dexterous and less like rotten corpses although they still looked the part.
My tailed wolf form was active and so I started moving forward as I raised a hand and casted Psychic Spike at the group, the two spears of pe blasted forward through two zombies as they sailed towards the spawner.
The spawner… dodged them, it side stepped one, dodging both in the process as it fired a ray of sickness at me, I was able to dodge thanks to my increased physical stats.
I sighed as I realised this wouldn’t be as easy anymore.
My tail swayed behind me as I charged forward, a wave of fire blasted forward as I swung my arm, it engulfed the zombies as I hopped over their thrashing, prone bodies.
I ran towards the spawner, dodging to the side as I saw it throw a ray at me, I slid to a stop as I fired two psychic spikes at it, using telekinesis to pick a rock nearby and lob it at where it was dodging.
The rock connected knocking it off balance, I had already formed a spike and then launched it at the spawner.
It hit and I smirked as a fireball formed in my hand and was blasted at the spawner.
It connected as well only this time the spawner got an attack out. It had thrown a vial towards me, it was red.
I tried to dodge but my horrible physical stats made it tough. I got about 2 metres away before the vial slammed and broke against the ground where I was standing.
My mind was racing. I threw up my hands, flicked the mental switch for the Devil Magic skill as mana surged out of my body. It made a screen and solidified.
The fire that exploded from the vial slammed into the impromptu barrier I had made. I felt my Mp draining until I was forced to drop the barrier.
The fire that clung to the barrier dropped to the ground. I moved away as fast as I could, breaking into a sprint as I ran around, my mind thinking up ways to win.
Then it clicked as I smirked, the spawner had moved into the building at this point. My gaze settled on the cracked roof of the building and my smirk grew.
