I froze, my mind racing.
What should I say? Do I tell the truth? What? I clicked a link and transmigrated into a novel I don’t know to save you? Why? Because I was chosen? Do I lie or-
Words flashed above my head, startling me from my daze.
New Feature Unlocked!
Now you can view the protagonists' favorability toward others automatically.
I tilted my head, glancing at the guy still glaring at me.
The text changed.
Oh? What is that? Just how likely he is to kill you? Uh…be upset if you die? No, that’s not right…
Can I smash this system?
No. Anyway, it’s just how much he likes and trusts you.
Oh. I bet mine is at the max right? Considering I did just save his life.
Pfft, have you met the man? Or are you just blind?
I raised an eyebrow.
Look up dear~
I raised my head at the prompt and felt a lump in my throat.
How is this fair?!
Above my head flashed a big bold ‘-10’. I whipped my head and glared at the man with pursed lips, making him raise an eyebrow at me.
I heard a beep above my head and looked up again to see the number had changed to ‘-12’
The hell?!
I turned my head towards him, narrowing my eyes at him. He shook his head as his arm shifted moving toward the hilt of his sword. My eyes widened as his finger curled around the handle.
He cracked his neck, lifting his sword as I frantically backed away. My heart pounding against my chest, as I stumbled falling on my back, the -12 floating above me.
Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit! Will I die before doing anything?
I heard a deep exhale as the man grumbled again.
‘Who are you?’
You might be reading a stolen copy. Visit Royal Road for the authentic version.
I stuttered out. ‘I-I’m, I-m’
‘Speak.’ he ordered.
‘I’m O-osamu Kaito’.
I shakily sat up to look at him and saw him scowling. He sighed. ‘From?’
I pursed my lips, turning my head to the side and closing my eyes as I whispered out. ‘From Tokyo?’
His hand gripping the sword faltered. ‘Are you pretending or are you actually an idiot?’
I jolted looking up. ‘Huh? I just saved your life! First, you point a sword at me, then you call me an idiot?!’
The man bit his lip, mumbling. ‘An idiot after all’.
I jumped forward, yelling. ‘EXCUSE ME?!’
But as I did I lost my balance and almost decapitated myself on the raised sword.
The man frantically moved his hand and fell backward as I barely stabilized myself on my palms in front of his feet.
I began.‘S-sor-’
I gasped as a force came out of nowhere, colliding with my face. My head snapped back as my arm twisted, losing my balance and rolling to the side.
There was a dull ringing in my ears. Pain shot up my jaw, rattling my skull. My teeth ached and a sharp sting throbbed on my tongue.
My vision blurred—dark spots danced in front of my eyes—and the world tilted as I held my cheek.
The taste of iron filled my mouth, warm liquid oozing between my teeth. The skin on my cheek, burning as if scraped.
The dull ache from the impact began to throb, radiating outward, down to my jaw and neck.
How could he just kick me?!
I looked up at the sky, and the number above me blinked and changed to -10.
Is he a sadist?
Hehe. Maybe he is, maybe he isn’t ~ Maybe try getting beat up by him, you find out ~
Fuck you.
‘Is he dead?’ I heard him mumble.
I snapped. ‘Fuck you! No, I’m not dead! Shit. If I wasn’t told to save your life-’
The number dropped to -20. A shadow loomed over my head, as the glint of the sword above me cut my eye. ‘Told?’
I turned my head and glanced at him, now standing up, glaring at me. I gulped as he pushed the tip of the blade to my neck.
I felt a sharp sting as warm liquid slid down the side.
‘By who?’ he grumbled, frowning.
‘I-that I don’t know…’
He furrowed his brows and looked down as if thinking. ‘I see…’
His favorability toward me changed back to -12.
Huh? He believed me? Just like that?
My heart raced, lips trembling.
Or is he just waiting for me to slip up? Or…Can he tell if I’m lying or something?
Bingo~
Oh, I see. Shit.
He met my eyes and calmly asked. ‘Why?’
I started. ‘Uh…you see-’
Suddenly, the ground trembled, and a loud explosion rang out, sending a violent shockwave in every direction.
Gales tore at the surroundings, sending clouds of sand swirling around. In the chaos, a blinding flash of light erupted, as I squinted my eyes turning my head toward it.
The light swirled around in a cloud of white smoke. From it, a figure emerged walking toward us.
As the smoke cleared, a tall Asian woman, wearing red flannel and jeans came into view. She stomped forward as her long, flowing hair swirled in the wind.
Why’s her hair blowing perfectly in the wind?
Because that is the female lead for this novel ~
Oh.
She looked at the man behind me and nodded her head.
‘Arashi’.
My eyes widened at the favorability number above her head ‘10’.
Dude…4 for the female lead. Is this the beginning of the novel?
No…it’s nearing the end. Damn cold-hearted little shit.
I glanced at Arashi who nodded his head at the female lead. ‘Aoi-san.’
Shit’s still using formal speech.
Poor Aoi-san.
I turned my head back to look at her. In her hand, she held a long silver spear, its blade sharp and slowly rising.
The tip shone menacingly, before coming to rest just inches from my throat. I froze, breath hitching as the blade hovered close enough to feel its chill.
My eyes darted between the sword and spear at my throat.
Damn couple.
To be continued...
