A lot of time has passed, since Ariel learned about meditation. Right now he is 5 years old and about 4 years have passed since that night. In this time he has progressed, a reasonable amount in several different aspects. One of his bigger ones was when he spoke his first words to his mother, being 2 and half years old.
It is unneeded to say that his mother was delighted about it, and has almost hugged him to death on that day, because of it. There was also the instance when he took his first steps, which also ended in a similar scenario. However, his most important progress was in his Mana core. He has been meditating every day to increase his Mana, and as time went by, his Mana core grew larger and larger.
Presently the Mana core in his body is comparable to a grown up man’s fist, this would surprise any of the older mages, if they knew about it. Still, he didn’t know anything about the norms of this world, so he couldn’t tell if it was a lot or not at all. Aside from this he has found another thing to do with Mana, at first he just wanted to try taking his own Mana out of the core, which succeeded in a few times of trying. But later on, he decided to experiment, if he could make it travel trough his entire body. It started out slow, however, after few weeks of doing it he noticed that it was slowly becoming faster and faster, that is why he determined to continued doing this exercise while also absorbing Mana at other times, hoping that it would be useful in the future.
This is the rough break down of what happened in the past several years of his new life. Thankfully for him, he didn’t waste his time like a normal baby, which will help him in the future as he will soon find out.
After he was done recollecting about what he has done in the past few years, he heard a knock on his door and also a person’s voice speaking from the other side of it. “Young master I have come to wake you up, as well as to tell you, that you have been given permission for what you have asked” The one who has come to his door was Derek, the butler who was given to Ariel as a servant from his mother. “Understood” Ariel answered, while getting up from his bed. ‘It seems that, I can finally answer myself some questions’ He taught as he was putting on his clothes.
Nobles of this world or at least of this Kingdom have a tradition of not letting children out of they’re rooms until they were 5 years old. Ariel could finally leave his room, only a month ago, however he still had to get permission to go to some peculiar places in the family mansion. That was why he was brimming with expectations, about the place he was going to today.
When he finally got ready, Ariel went to the mirror at the corner. In the reflection he could see a handsome boy with average height in correlation to a normal 5 year old child. After the all these years his golden hair and cold, blue eyes were the same, as well as the sickly complexion, tough he wasn’t so aggravated by it anymore.
Clothes that he now wore were mainly a mix of blue and white together with some gold. Apart from the main shirt, he had a coat over it as well as long trousers, with boots. This was quite standard, but it made Ariel look even more majestic.
People in this world usually wore the same clothes every day, only having several pairs of them. However, sometimes they would put on something new like on celebrations, or when they wanted to change they’re attire entirely.
After checking if anything was wrong he walked out of his room, to only see a middle aged butler standing outside, who didn’t show any reaction to his presence. At the mansion there were still people who were unnerved by this young master’s lack of emotions, but most of them have already got used to his expressionless face and short answers.
As Ariel went out of the room, he didn’t even stop before immediately turning right and going down the corridor. Hearing the butler’s footsteps, he turned to look at his surroundings. All of the walls were nicely decorated by paintings and other expensive ornaments, worthy of a nobleman, while the ground was laid down with carpets. Ariel still couldn’t get used to such rich halls, but soon stopped himself from paying attention to them
Coming to an intersection he once more went right, which lead to a grand door at the very end of the corridor. This was the place Ariel decided to go to, and also the place he dreamed of visiting for a long time.
The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.
He slowly opened the big door and walked into a very spacious room, which had a distinctive smell of books and ink. This was his family’s library, and the place where he could at last get some answers about magic.
Ariel’s only problem was, that he didn’t know where to start in such a large room. While he was thinking about his dilemma, he noticed that the bookshelves had signs, and were arranged by subjects. ‘I guess this will be easier than I taught.’ After letting out a relieved sigh, he quickly started looking for the section about magic.
Fortunately, he has found the section about magic with little difficulty, and spent several hours looking trough the basic books on magic, which he found very satisfying.
To summarize it, magic affinities were divided into six elements Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Light and Darkness. Generally each mage had a single element, but there are rare occurrences where a mage has more that one element, and are very desired by influential powers.
Double affinities aren’t the only rare mages in this world. There are also variants, like holy magic, which one can gain from cultivating specific, light magic scriptures, which are heavily guarded by each church. However those are only cultivated variants, the most powerful ones are inborn ones. They are basically double affinity mages who had they’re affinities merge while they were in they’re mothers womb. Double affinity mages, might be able to control two elements but it is impossible for them to combine them together.
The reason being is that, Mages use Mana from they’re own cores to cast spells, but can’t use raw Mana for the same spells. It is possible in theory to merge Mana of two different elements, but just merging a small amount would take a long time, just like when absorbing raw Mana, and making it you’re own, so it would be too impractical. On the other hand, people who mere born with such a gift would be capable of generating the unique Mana as easily as a normal mage could they’re own.
Besides this, he has also found a way to test his own magic affinity. It is not as convenient as using an affinity stone and also required a decent amount of Mana, but at least it was something.
The way to do it was by expelling a large amount of Mana from you hands, it is also know as a basic magic technique, Mana manipulation, but is not very popular, because there is little use for it in actual combat.
Ariel while sitting down, slowly gathered as much Mana in his hands as possible and in a single motion, expelled it into the air. Yet nothing happened, which made Ariel’s face freeze. Usually there would be something like a small flame or drops of water on one’s hand. However there was nothing for Ariel.
He was at a loss of what to do. ‘Do I rally have so little talent? O is my Mana not enough?’ Just as he was getting depressed he heard Derek’s voice on the other side of the library door. “Young master Ariel it is time for breakfast.” “I’m coming” Ariel answered before letting loose a sigh and walking to the exit.
While moving, he tried to dispel the negativity in his heart as he looked at Derek standing at the entrance. Only family members or important people are given permission to enter the library so a butler like Derek had to wait outside. Right after Ariel went outside Derek seems to have became, worried. “Are you alright young master? You seem to be cold.” He asked while kneeling down and taking a hold of Ariel’s hand.
“I am?” didn’t understand what Derek meant so he put his hand close to his face, and several moments of pondering he became very, exited. His hands were ice cold. This unusual event could only be done by one thing in the library, magic. That would mean his affinity test was successful and also it is an unknown element to him, which could only be a variant.
This was truly worthy of celebration, but soon he calmed down. “It’s fine let’s go eat breakfast.” He said while heading to the dine room. He would have plenty of time to explore him magic later.
Right now he wanted to just be done with all the annoying things.
