Starblooms

Mother Superior Delane stood at the edge of the Holy Grounds of Ayla, gazing out into the darkness beyond. Her expression was one of concern as she thought about Amelia, who had yet to return from her herb-gathering expedition in the woods.

Recent vampire attacks had put the temple on high alert, and Delane feared for the safety of her young priestess. She turned to Sister Evangeline, another priestess who stood nearby.

"I worry about Amelia," she said softly. "She's been gone for quite some time, and these woods are not safe. I fear the worst."

Sister Evangeline nodded sympathetically. "I know, Mother Superior. But Amelia is strong and resourceful. I'm sure she'll be back soon, safe and sound."

Just as she spoke, they heard a commotion at the entrance to the Holy Grounds. They turned to see Amelia running towards them, her face flushed with exertion and fear.

"Mother Superior! Sister Evangeline!" she cried out as she approached. "I was attacked by vampires in the woods! But a mysterious man saved me."

Delane and Evangeline rushed to Amelia's side, their concern turning to relief at her safe return. "Thank Ayla you were not killed child." Delane said, taking Amelia's hand.

"Praise Ayla," Evangeline repeated.

"What happened in the woods, Amelia?" Delane asked, her voice gentle but firm.

Amelia took a deep breath, still catching her breath from her run. "I was gathering herbs for the sick and injured, as usual," she began. "But then I heard some rustling in the bushes, and before I knew it, three vampires were upon me. They were rogue vampires, and they were going to attack me, but then this man appeared out of nowhere and saved me."

Delane's eyes widened in surprise. "A man? Who was he?"

"I don't know," Amelia replied. "He was tall, with black hair and violet eyes. He wore a black cloak and had sharp features. He was almost...inhuman."

Delane and Evangeline exchanged worried glances. "This is troubling," Delane said. "We need to be on high alert. It seems these vampires are becoming bolder and more dangerous."

Amelia nodded in agreement. "Yes, Mother Superior. I'll be more careful in the future. I don't want to put anyone else in danger."

Delane patted Amelia's hand reassuringly. "You did well, my child. You're safe now, and that's what matters." She turned to Evangeline. "Sister, please make sure Amelia is taken care of. I need to consult with the other elders about this new threat."

As Delane walked away, Evangeline led Amelia towards the temple, making sure she was comfortable and safe. They both knew that the danger in the woods was far from over, and that they needed to be on their guard at all times.

As Amelia caught her breath, she looked up at the concerned faces of Delane and Evangeline. She felt a sense of comfort and safety being back within the walls of the temple.

"I managed to collect a few herbs before the vampires attacked," she said, holding up her bag. "I think we can still make the medicine we need for the injured."

Delane nodded approvingly. "Good work, Amelia. We'll get to work on the medicine right away."

As they made their way back to the temple, Amelia couldn't help but feel grateful for the safety and protection of the Holy Grounds of Ayla. She knew that she could always count on her fellow priestesses and the powerful goddess they served to keep her safe from harm.

But still, she couldn't shake the memory of the mysterious man who had saved her. Who was he? And why did he seem to have such a strong connection to the vampires? She knew she needed to find out more.

As the days passed, Amelia kept her eyes and ears open for any news of the man or the vampires. She listened to the rumors and gossip that circulated among the temple staff and visitors, hoping to catch a clue.

Amelia approached Sister Evangeline and Sister Colette, two of her closest confidantes within the temple. "Sisters, have you heard of the starblooms?" she asked, hoping to start a conversation about the rare flower.

Evangeline nodded. "Yes, they're a vital component in some of our most sacred rituals. We're running low on them, and we need to gather more soon."

Amelia's heart raced as she saw an opportunity. "I could go into the forest tonight and gather some," she said, hoping to offer her services.

Colette looked at her skeptically. "It's dangerous out there, especially at night. Are you sure you want to risk it?"

Amelia nodded resolutely. "I'll be careful, and I have faith that Ayla will protect me."

That night, Amelia ventured into the forest, her senses on high alert. She listened carefully for any signs of danger as she made her way through the underbrush.

Eventually, she stumbled upon a sacred spring, surrounded by the glowing starblooms she had come to collect. She approached them carefully, taking care not to damage any of the delicate petals.

As she gathered the flowers, she felt a strange sensation, as if she were being watched. She paused and looked around, but she saw nothing but the peaceful glade surrounding her.

Feeling grateful to Ayla for her successful mission, Amelia sat by the pond and offered a prayer of thanks.

Merrek watched Amelia silently from the shadows, intrigued by the sight of the young priestess praying by the sacred spring. He had saved her from a band of rogue vampires a few days ago, and he couldn't help but feel drawn to her peaceful demeanor.

As she finished her prayer, Merrek stepped out of the shadows and approached her. "I told you it was dangerous out here, little priestess," he said with a sly smile, arbitrarily showing his fangs.

Amelia jumped at the sound of his voice, turning to face him with a mix of surprise and fear. "Who are you?" she asked, eyeing him warily.

Merrek chuckled softly. "Just a traveler passing through," he replied, studying her with a curious gaze. "And what is a young priestess like you doing out here all alone?"

"I came to gather starblooms for the temple," Amelia said, clutching her basket of flowers protectively. "And I can take care of myself, thank you very much."

Merrek raised an eyebrow, impressed by her feisty spirit. "Is that so? That must be why I had to kill a rogue, and fight off two others on your behalf, little priestess?"

"That was you.. Thank you, for saving my life" Amelia replied, her expression softening.

"What do you say I guide you back to your Holy Grounds?" He suggested, "I could protect you."

Amelia hesitated, uncertain about this mysterious stranger. But something in his eyes made her feel strangely drawn to him, despite her better judgment. "I suppose that would be alright," she said finally, falling into step beside him.

As they walked, Merrek studied her more closely, intrigued by the combination of innocence and strength he saw in her. "So tell me, little priestess," he said after a while. "What's your name?"

"I'm Amelia," she replied, a hint of a smile playing at the corners of her lips. "And you are?"

"Merrek," he said, flashing her a charming grin. "It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Amelia."

Merrek led Amelia through the forest with a confident stride, his eyes scanning the trees and the path ahead. He couldn't help but feel a surge of pride as he walked alongside her, admiring the way her hair shimmered in the sunlight and the gracefulness of her steps.

"You look stunning today, Amelia," he said, his voice low and commanding. "The forest pales in comparison to your beauty."

Amelia blushed at his words, feeling her heart skip a beat. She couldn't help but be drawn to his commanding presence, the way he exuded confidence and strength.

As they walked, Merrek gently took her hand in his and raised it to his lips, placing a soft kiss on the back of her hand. His touch sent shivers down her spine, and she couldn't help but feel a sense of longing for more.

As they emerged from the trees, Amelia noticed that there were significantly more paladins than usual guarding the temple. "The Mother Superior must have requested more defense," she noted, a hint of concern in her voice.

Merrek nodded in agreement, "We should be careful, it wouldn't be good if they saw us together."

With a quick motion, he removed his ring, which had been magically concealing his true form. As the ring came off, his white vampire wings unfurled, and he scooped Amelia up in his arms.

With a powerful leap, Merrek took to the sky, soaring high above the treetops. Amelia gasped in surprise and delight as they flew through the air, the wind rushing past them.

As they approached the temple, Merrek spotted a balcony with no guards and he landed softly there. He held Amelia in his arms, gazing into her eyes with a fierce intensity. Without a word Merrek pulls Amelia close to him, his hand gently cradling the back of her neck. He looks deeply into her eyes, his gaze intense with desire and affection. Slowly, he leans in, his lips meeting hers in a soft, yet passionate kiss. Their mouths move together, their tongues intertwining in a dance of passion and longing.

Amelia's heart and mind were as she melts into his embrace, her body responding to his every touch. She wraps her arms around his neck, deepening the kiss as she loses herself in the moment. The kiss feels like it goes on forever, but at the same time, it's over too soon.

"Until we may meet again, my little Amelia" And with a last lingering kiss, before he took to the sky once more, disappearing into the distance.
