Last Night, I was not able to sleep at all, I am so nervous about today. We have just got word that the church Knights and the children they have already recruited are on their way here before going to get some training in them and start their path on becoming priests. As soon as I went into get breakfast, I noticed mother was not around. I look around the house for a bit and found a note with a light blue necklace.
To my beloved Lucas, I have to leave for a while. I cannot tell you where and when I am going to come back. I know your dream is to become a priest and travel around the world having adventures and killing vampires and demons but I just wanted you to know the world is not as black and white as the church will make it out to be.
The church has a saying "To go against the church is to go against God" But remember as long as you are true to yourself and never regret your decisions, You will go against God. Do not trust the church too much.

The note my mother had left me is already soaked with my tears. I stand there wondering what kind of mother leaves their son at the age of 10 without so much as a hug. But after an hour of thinking, I remember If I get accepted as a disciple of the church I would have to leave my mother. So maybe this way was better without the farewell?. I folded the paper and put it nicely into my black pants , while putting the necklace on . I do not know why but mother laid really nice black clothes on my bed, I had never seen them before?, Maybe she wanted me to wear them today. It even had a cool look cloak that will go over my hair and cover some of my face if I pull it down, My mother is really nice as I thought.
After sometime I hear noises coming from outside and mothers wishing their children luck, and fathers telling their children to have courage. I look down at my black attire and necklace and take a deep breath, My mother has all ready prepared everything for me I just need to overcome and trails or test they have and take my first step into becoming a priest!
I run outside as fast as my legs could take me and honestly I feel like ever since I put my clothes and the necklace on , I have become faster but I shake my head and push these thought to the back of my mind. I look around and see 8 knights in white following a fat man who was wearing a robe, He looks like he has some high position in the church. There are a bunch of children behind them and they look smug and it is most likely because they are from the outliner villages who got tested before us. Will I am looking at the other children the fat guy starts his speech
"Hello everyone my name is pope George of the church, and I have come today with a very noble purpose. To recruit the young men and women from the towns who are willing to train and become knights of the church and to help us pursue our goal of eradicating all the evil in the world." The pope looks around and has a kind smile, We he said about the evil in the world getting eradicated, even I could feel my young blood boiling.
"I can see a lot of children who look like they want to become knights hah". The fat man's face is now beaming red while he starts giving out some instructions. "Can all the child who would like to take the test/trail please step forward so we can see you". The pope gives a chuckle as he looks around and sees many of the parents pushing their children forward.
I step forward and line up with the children. We are lined up from left to right, I am furthest to the right. I am looking around and am quite surprised I cannot see the kids who bullied me yesterday. I wonder if mother had a talk with their parents.
"Usually there are many trails you must face to be allowed to train with us, But since we are lacking in people with give you simple test which make it much easy for all of you to join". The pope is eyeing of each of the children one by one. When he gets to me he stops for a second and keeps going, All the other kids are looking much brighter when they heard this test was going to be easier.
"The test is a simple one" As the pope said this, One of the knights who was guarding the pope steps forward and gives us all a smug look "You will fight my knight and we will see if you have what it takes to follow the church and become closer to god" When the words leave his mouth, All the knights started chanting in unison.

Honestly ever since I read mother letter the chant they are spouting now does to seem to be as entrancing as when I was younger, After their chant was over and children started going up one by one to fight the knight. Not one of these children even came close to hitting him, But all of them passed.
When it came to my turn I rushed the knight and punched him in the face quite nicely which made the other guards laugh, Compared to a normal knight I was so slow, But by making use of the guard looking down on me and not taken me seriously I managed to smack him right in the face. He looked red and annoyed put the pope laughed it of and said I passed. After the other children who wanted to join the church were done it was announced we would have an hour to pack up and we would be moving to the town of Xera which is a well-known town for being where all recruits start the journey to become closer to god.
I walk back into my home and check that I have everything. I grab a black bag and fill it will clothes, According to my mother the church does not need for you to pay for your food while you are in training, As long as you have your own clothes, you have all the church required you to bring, The hour was probably for everyone to say goodbye to their love ones. I look at my black cloths again, I have never seen these clothes before today but they actually feel so comfortable, Like my mother is watching over me.
After about 30 minutes I go outside to see most of the kids have already started connection with the other kids who came from other towns. I look around and see everyone most likely already have friends they are going to talk to, So it would be best if I move away from the other children.
I walk over and go sit rock near the pope and his guards. There are many children who are waiting to leave excitedly.
-Sigh- I guess I would not be able to make friends in this new town either. I pulled my hood down closer to my eyes so no one can see that I am actually on the verge of tears. Not only did I not get to have a proper goodbye with my mother, I also am quite nervous about going to a new place. After all I am only ten.
Why I am sitting quite depressed I fail to notice the pope has come over and sat next to me, When I look over I am quite startled as he has quite the smile on.
"Hey boy hah, You did great with my guard, Even now he is still quite annoyed he lost so much face with you hah" The pope looks quite happy when he is talking about the guard.
"Not at all your lordship, The only reason I was able to hit your guard is because he was unaware, If we were to fight again, I would not have a chance to hit him". I say while matching his gaze with a slight smile of my lips.
"Modest at your young age is very good hah, Oh by the way the clothes you are wearing are quite special, Do you have somebody in your family who is able to put gods blessing on your clothes?" the pope with a curious look in his eyes.
"Sorry my lord, But I can honestly say I have no idea what gods blessing is or if there is anything different about my clothes, They where a gift from my mother but she left this morning so I am unable to ask" When I think of not seeing mother for a while it always make me sad.
" Do not worry, When you get to Xera and start training you will see how special your clothes are and how special this mother off yours was to give you such a rare gift". After some silence the pope speaks once more.
"Anyways kid let us go now it looks like everyone is just about ready to leave".
The pope and I get up ready to head out. The pope goes back other to his guard while I go stand next to two other who seem to by themselves as we depart to go to Xera. The pope is leading us out of the town when he looks back at me walking along with a smile. I give him a nice smile back and we start to depart from the town I grew up in.
