Chapter 1- Waiting

Chapter 1- Waiting

The day of awakening, the expected day, the day I will see my past lives, started out quite normally.

I was preparing for this since the day before and didn't sleep a wink, so kept looking at the alarm clock, waiting for it to go off, so I could get up, went to sleep in my clothes, in case I slept more than I should.

I got up and waited, 5… 4… 3… 2… 1… 0, and pressed the button to hang up, leaving the room bouncing. It would be a unique day that would connect with my past lives.

On my way out bumped into my older brother, tall with short black hair and always coming up with his conspiracies, which only got worse when his predecessors fed it, (seems he comes from a long line of paranoid people who were left in charge of keeping secrets from kings and invading empires), now he works for city security, was ironic in a cute way.

“Mister general, how is your mental headquarters this morning?”, I spoke in a fake thick voice that would make me sound funny.

“Worse now.”, he spoke dryly and without looking at my face, before I could answer that, he went straight to his room and closed the door.

Always a grumpy one, he never talked to me properly, I only found out about his predecessors because I heard him talk to our father about increasing defenses for a possible attack, thanks to that I found out that he specializes in magic, along with some magic, he didn't think I'd find out, but I saw his magical trinkets lying around.

My father cooking and my mother lying with her head on the table, dozing, I asked myself: 'when was the last time we talked? Last month maybe, last year?'. I lost count, she always slept during the conversations. I was hoping that she would be more excited today, I don't think so, how “lucky” for such a special day.

“What's for this nice breakfast?”, I smiled and greeted the one who always listened to me, as opposed to 'someone'.

I kept smiling, I didn't want another conversation about the problems 'she' had. It seems to involve an apocalypse, the literal end of the world, which after it was over she was so peaceful that she fell asleep everywhere. I didn't want to hear that excuse again and again. Also, today is a special day, my day, sadness has been banished from my vocabulary today.

“Egg, fruit juice and salad.”, he turned around with a gentle smile. He was the coolest of all, he took care of me, my brother and younger sister, he was the one I learned the most about these predecessors from him, he said that most of them were knights and heroes, his suspicions indicated that some of them could be kings, (it seems that if the predecessors did not want to help or communicate, they are like the ghosts of the stories, they are there, but they do nothing).

“A basic for today?”

“Yep. Today can be a busy day, we don't want you to be sick”, he said, while putting my plate on.

While eating, my head wondered on who they could be. There was a correlation between current life, previous lives and parents, it was one of the most popular research/theories. Along with the fact that our planet is being assimilated into the coalition of planets, there are some who have said they have an extraterrestrial soul as an ancestor, it seems that the more our planet connects to other planets and the universes beyond we end up with linked souls and life forms from different locations, as we are the only ones with this ability known, and we have only studied it for a short time. There are some mysteries around this ability, (we didn't have access to magic and others before, only after of assimilation) is like a gold mine for the “others”.

If mine is an extraterrestrial, I would like him to be a mega smart and teach me how to create space things, like a mega ship, however my father has knights, my sister o had the spy of kings (from what I gathered it's right there) and my mother had the action survivors, I think there would be something along those lines.

I finished as quickly as I could and asked him when it was coming.

“If you're so anxious, you can go ahead, the temple is close, we've never been there, but I know you well enough to know that you've memorized the way.”

He gave me the look of someone who has already seen behind my plan, I knew he wouldn't go without my mother and brothers, being able to go alone was my initial goal, I wanted to make a real 'suspense' about it, so my brother would go having to be in the dark, just like it did to me, and my little sister will look at me in a more mysterious light, I couldn't help but chuckle a little at this, my dad raised his eyebrow as if he was going to ask about it, but left it at that.

Before I left running, I looked around the room paying attention to each one, my father being a little shorter than my brother and with more muscles, in addition to having more gray hair that fell from his shoulders, my mother had black hair and long, besides possessing more muscles than he, ('as if she was always sleeping?'), I wondered, maybe it was the change after waking up.

Seeing them, I couldn't help but imagine what it would be like to have muscles. My body was about my father's height, with shorter, straighter hair, having just turned 15, I wondered how that would change me, from what I heard there was a small but existing chance that past lives influenced the body. I rooted for it, I hoped to gain permanent muscle that never went away.

I left and followed the path that I had memorized, I asked myself why we hadn't gone before, my brother ended up going in hiding instead of him, when he came back there was no reason to go, I never wanted to know about the others and so on.

Better to concentrate on the path, so I wouldn't get lost, I saw the street that would take me to my destination, thrilled to have arrived early. Just to see that he ended up delaying me anyway, a gentleman who had a leg stuck, I went to help him, it seems he had no predecessors and no training, I ended up taking him home. When I went out on my way again I ended up getting into similar things, when I arrived there was already a huge queue for the temple. He only let the altar open once a year, so I always piled up, I whimpered a little and moved to the end of the line.

“Hey, here, in front…”, she stopped a bit and continued, “Lyera, look over here.”

I turned around when I heard my name and saw Silvia, a little further down the line, I said hello from afar and waved my arm at her. She invited me from afar to stay with him in the queue, but I refused from afar, I was distracted by helping others, it would be wrong to cut the queue like that.

She got a little sulky, I think, it wasn't possible to be sure from afar, resignedly she said that she should have imagined that, she wanted to ask how she could be so sure, but I remembered that I left earlier, more than coming alone, it was also to avoid being late, something that strangely became my trademark.

Trying to divert from these thoughts, I imagined what I would have to do when I arrived at the altar. I had prepared myself and kept a pamphlet with the instructions for this. I went to read it expecting something masterful, we were the only species that could naturally talk to their previous lives, in the end, it was just touching the altar, it seems to come with a recorded technique that had the effect of awakening (for those who had a previous life, however there was the chance to be a blank soul, for them it just released the energy inherent in them, something that was a certainty for those with predecessors), the only other way was a near-death experience, something not much preferable to most.

I took my eyes off the pamphlet and looked to see how much was left, saw an even longer line and wished I had brought my cell phone, which I had forgotten in my haste.

The only thing he could do was wait and wait, hoping it would go faster.
