1. You Lied.

300 Days in the Future

"You lied. You broke our promise" Sythian said. His face showed disappointment and a sadness that could break even the coldest of hearts.

But it didn't matter to the one in front of him, someone he considered his friend, best friend, family and much more.

They stood in the middle of the city Liliana. The coastal city of Liliana had been devastated by the battle just fought there. The two sides had completely destroyed the most financially well city in the world. Only rubble was left of huge tall buildings, people who were once breathing now lay on the ground dead. Injured lay on the ground as ants crumpled under a human feet.

Abneer replied, "Yes I did. I lied and I broke out promise. And I would do it a thousand times if I could reach my goal. I don't care about anyone. Nothing matters to me besides achieving it. It has always been like that. And you know this, so don't, don't you dare come between it."

With a cold hearted face and reply like that Abneer could have made anyone believe what he was saying. But not Sythian. He knew that the reply was facade.

Sythian laughed, laughed and laughed. He laughed even though his right hand was bleeding because of the cut, he was laughing while bearing the pain of of the cuts one his chest and back.

Laughingly he said, "You and I both know thats a lie. If you think that these deaths you caused and the destruction your choices led would make me give up on you then you are dumber than me. You know me I wouldn't give up our promise. Not a chance even if the gods came to Earth or even if breaking it meant saving the world. I wouldn't break my promise, not to you ever. "

The Day They Met

The promise had been made between two boys. Two boys who lived next to each other. One was intelligent and mature for his age and introverted, while the other was the extroverted outgoing type who reached out with a helping hand to anyone who asked for it.

Abneer was an orphan who had lost his parents when he was ten and had lost the will to live. He didn't care about the world anymore. He didn't talk to anyone or interact with people at all. Even though he was ten he had become more mature than the adults around him. After his parents had died he had come to live with his grandmother.

Everyday people for the past few weeks would come to meet them. To express their condolences for the loss he had suffered. They would say their sorry for his loss as if they had killed his parents. They would pity him everytime everyday they met him. And that's what he hated the mosta about them.

The pity, the looks they gave him, because his parents were dead. Pity from people who didn't care to show up at the funeral or even cared about them when they were alive. They talked about them as though they knew them. As though they were their best friends. They talked about them like they were there to see them live through each and every day.

But in his heart he knew that even though these people talked about them like they care they really didn't. How could they. For all his life people had been disgusted by his parents. After all his father had been kicked out of his family for marrying his mother. His parents tried to protect him from the truth by hiding it but he had already found out. They are the ones whom mother had called hypocrites and father had asked to stay away from, the people who showed sympathy when they died, but when alive spoke cruel stuff. They were the ones he had to be aware of, stay away from.

On one such day the Genevy family that lived opposite to them had come meet them. It was the first time he would meet the Genevys. His mother had spoken about a Genevy years ago. He couldn't remember which one and what was that conversation about.

"Hypocrites again too" Abneer murmured quietly as the Genevys walked in.

The lady with blonde hair whom seemed to be in her late thirties said, "I'm sorry we couldn't be at the funeral. As you know we were out of town for work. But that isn't an excuse to justify us for not being there, if we had recieved the message of what had happened we would have dropped everything to be there. But we recieved the news a little to late. We are so sorry for everything that happened and for not being there in your time of need."

As Abneer thought, hypocrites again, talking as though they care but in reality they don't, everyone is the same as always.

His grandmother replied, "No no Sian, it's not your fault. You didn't receive the message on time otherwise I surely know you would been there. But for the better or worse its good you weren't there. People would have started spreading rumours about them due to your work. It would have hurt him in the long run."

Something about the words that his grandmother had uttered seemed to sadden the Sian. Her eyes had become filled with sadness as though she was on the verge of crying. It was as though a knife had been struck through her heart.

Sians husband then said, "Aunt Greymore I know you haven't asked us to do anything for you yet but please feel free to do so if the need arises. Anything at all. Also, I know this might seem like we are overstepping our boundaries but we have already talked to Sythians school and have put a word in for Abneer to be admitted in it. We have also asked the school to put him in Sythians class so he could have his help. I'm sorry we did this without consulting you first but we thought was an urgent matter and he shouldn't miss out on school anymore. After all the year that is coming is important for the boys lives forward. It could change everything for them. And don't even think about paying the fees. We already took care of it."

"No no you've already done too much for us. We can't be accepting any more. Thanks for putting a word with the school but we can't accept you paying the fees. Arthur we can't owe you any more so please understand."

"Owe us, not at all. If anyone owes anyone anything, its us who owe you for everything you've done. And the fees has already been paid, so if you aren't willing to accept it will just go to waste."

With a defeated but happy face Greymore replied, "Okay then, he will go to that school. But please don't do anything more. We can't owe you more."

The boy who had come with Arthur and Sian lit up after hearing that I would be going to the same school came running towards me and said, "Hi I'm Sythian, you must be Abneer. Let's be friends now that we will go to the same class."

Abneer with a grunted look replied, "Friends what are they! I don't have any need for those. " After all he had to stay away from them as father and mother had said.

Sythian annoyed by the reply told, "You don't need them okay. You shan't be friends with anyone. I am not your friend. But I consider you my friend."

"Friendship is something that happens two-ways. If you are not my friend. How am I your friend ? It's illogical."

"So that means you want to be my friend."

"No that's not what I meant."

"Then what did you mean ?"

Puzzled by this bizzare argument Abneer had lost the will to fight. He just replied, "I don't know."

"So if you don't know just be my friend." Sythian said happily.

Abneer was irritated about how he was tricked. But beneath it all a flame burst inside of him. A flame of happiness. A sign of relief.

This is how their friendship began and how the worlds first die of change was rolled.

300 Days in the Future

Abneer said, " It was a childhood promise. It's gone like our childhood is, which was taken from us if you don't remember. It doesn't matter to me anymore. No one does. So go away, leave it in the past and leave me alone."

"You and I both know that I won't. If you wish to continue down this path then we both shall perish onto it. After all one can't die without the other or else we won't be able to keep the promise, it would break. If you wish to die on it then that's my wish too."

Abneer disgruntled from the response just hit his leg on the ground. "Please just leave me alone on this path I have chosen. I can't have your blood in my hands."

They both stood in front of each other. Both of them having lost all their strength and the only thing keeping them up was the other. They both knew the other wouldn't waver a bit from his stance. Yet they both tried. A war was soon to follow. A war that would change the future of the world forever.

A childhood promise that would set the stage for the destruction of the city of Liliana and the war that the Kingdom of Indianans was set to enter. All because of a promise that two twelve year old boys had made and also all because of her.
