"Wow, another fight, just what I needed," Alex exclaimed with a mix of sarcasm and determination as he entered the dimly lit chamber.
"Well, look what we have here. An arrogant brat, all alone with no one to help him fight," taunted his opponent, a sinister grin spreading across his face.
Standing in front of an ancient, ornate grandfather clock, Alex's otherworldly adversary was an intimidating sight. In his hands, he wielded the clock's hour and minute hands as if they were deadly swords. His pale gray skin and the twisted horns that wrapped around his skull revealed his inhuman nature. Draped over his shoulders was a tattered black fur cloak that hung like a shadow, with minimal armor adorning his lean frame. The inhuman man smirked, his cold eyes sizing Alex up.
"Ah, the strong and silent type, I see. Are you so eager to fight that you've forgotten how to speak? Come forward, mortal. You may have bested my father's mechanical guardian, but don't expect me to be any less of a challenge. And with all those wounds you've collected, I'm not so sure you'll be able to stand against me," he taunted, gesturing toward Alex's battered body.
Brushing off the remark, Alex responded with unshaken confidence, "I'll do what it takes. I've faced every other challenge in this forsaken place, and I survived the treacherous journey to get here. You can be sure that I'll survive you, too."
With a wicked grin, the horned creature replied, "That, my dear mortal, remains to be seen."
Alex couldn't help but smirk as he tightened his grip on his weapon, a fire burning in his eyes. "You know, I've encountered countless creatures worse than you on my journey. Each one was convinced they'd be the one to stop me. Yet here I am." He said while putting on a confident front.
The horned creature's grin faltered for a moment before returning with an even more sinister edge. "Ah, but you see, mortal, I'm not like those other creatures you've faced. I am far more cunning and powerful than any of them. You'll find that out soon enough."
Alex tilted his head, feigning concern. "Oh? So, you're the one I should be truly afraid of? I don’t think I’m too worried yet."
The creature chuckled, a malevolent sound that echoed through the chamber. "Your arrogance is entertaining, human. But it won't save you from your fate. I suggest you enjoy these final moments, for they will be your last."
Unfazed, Alex took a step forward, his eyes locked on his opponent. "We will just have to see then. Bring it on. Come off your high tower and face me."
The horned creature's eyes narrowed, his amusement fading as he raised his makeshift swords. "Very well, mortal. Prepare to meet your doom." The horned man stepped down from the platform and took a step toward Alex. He towered over Alex still.
As the two adversaries prepared for battle, an electric tension filled the air, the outcome of their clash uncertain. But one thing was clear: neither would back down without a fight.
Alex held his daggers close. His opponent’s blades would give him farther reach but Alex hoped that he would be faster and heartier. He scanned his opponent and was surprised. The level emanating from him was level 20. Something that Alex didn’t think was possible. He had just assumed that the power level of all monsters on the first floor was capped at 15 just like his own. He adjusted his stance as some worry seeped in.
The horned creature lunged forward, his long sword leading the way. Alex barely managed to dodge the attack, feeling the cold steel graze his arm. He swiftly countered, slashing his dagger toward the creature's exposed side. But the enemy was faster than he anticipated. In a blur, the creature deflected the blow with his short sword, sparks flying as the blades collided.
The battle raged on, a deadly dance between two skilled warriors. Alex, despite his smaller stature, used his agility to his advantage, darting in and out of the creature's range. He was a blur of movement, his daggers slicing through the air with lethal precision. The horned creature, for all his size and strength, proved to be an adept combatant, his long limbs and the reach of his sword-like clock hands keeping Alex on the defensive.
As the clash continued, Alex's muscles began to ache, his many injuries taking their toll. With each dodge, each parry, and each counter, his movements grew slightly slower. Yet, he refused to yield, his determination unwavering.
At one point, the horned creature managed to land a glancing blow on Alex's side, a thin trail of blood now streaking down his torso. Alex clenched his teeth against the pain, his breath coming in ragged gasps as he continued to fight.
"You're weakening, mortal," the horned creature taunted. "Soon, your strength will fail you, and I'll claim your life as my prize."
"Never," Alex spat, his voice hoarse but defiant. "I've come too far to give up now."
His opponent sneered, launching another series of relentless attacks. Alex's daggers clashed against the clock hands with a cacophony of metallic rings, sparks illuminating the dim chamber. The air around them seemed to crackle with energy, the sheer force of their battle threatening to shake the very foundations of their battleground.
As the merciless contest of wills and skill continued, Alex's physique began to howl in agony. Every nerve, every fiber of his being protested against the unyielding demands of the duel. Yet, he could not afford the luxury of lowering his guard, not even for the briefest moment. His intellect was set ablaze, tirelessly scouring for a chink in his adversary's seemingly impenetrable armor. He knew that a brute-force approach would be futile against the creature. His only chance of survival was through cunning, through outmaneuvering the beast that threatened his existence.

With each passing second, Alex poured more and more of his magic into the battle, using it as a mental crutch to stave off the pain that threatened to consume him. Yet, despite his desperate efforts to evade the onslaught, he found himself growing weaker, steadily accruing a collection of shallow yet painful injuries that marred his body like a grotesque tapestry of battle.
His opponent, on the other hand, bore nothing more than a single, superficial wound that had already ceased bleeding. The creature manipulated its twin blades with a disturbing level of skill and grace, circling Alex like a predator toying with its prey. Its cruel laughter echoed through the chamber, sending chills down Alex's spine.
"Give up now, and I will grant you a swift, painless death. You tire too easily," the creature sneered, its voice sending shivers down Alex's spine.
Alex's heart pounded in his chest as he ducked under another lethal swing, his magic-enhanced echolocation the only thing keeping him from meeting a premature end. The creature's sheer strength and ferocity bore down on him, making him feel as if he was under a mountain. His daggers met the creature's swords in a clamorous clash of steel on steel, the sound reverberating through the chamber as Alex stood his ground.
"No!" Alex's voice echoed throughout the chamber, resounding with a defiant strength that belied his battered body. His breath came in ragged gasps, and his body screamed for respite, but his spirit - his spirit refused to break. His hands tightened around the hilts of his daggers, their familiar weight and balance serving as a comforting reminder of countless past battles.
The creature threw back its horned head and laughed, a sound as harsh and grating as scraping metal. It was a sound of mockery and challenge that bounced off the stone walls, filling the chamber with an ominous echo. "Then you choose the hard way, mortal." Its words were a chilling promise of pain and torment, but Alex remained undeterred. The creature launched another vicious attack, his swords slashing through the air in a deadly ballet of steel.
Alex met the creature's strikes with his own, parrying with all his might despite his arms quivering under the force of the relentless assault. He was losing ground, slowly but surely, the creature's persistent barrage driving him back, inch by painful inch. His vision began to blur at the edges, fatigue, and pain threatening to cloud his senses, but he forced himself to focus, to keep his eyes locked on the deadly dance of his opponent's swords.
Once again, the creature lunged, his swords aimed with deadly precision at Alex's heart. With a last-ditch surge of energy, Alex evaded the attack, feeling the cold whoosh of air as the blades missed him by a hair's breadth. He retaliated, his daggers slicing through the air toward the creature's momentarily exposed flank. But the creature was prepared, deflecting the attack with a swift, easy movement.
Alex's heart pounded like a war drum in his chest as he fought to maintain his footing. His body was crying out for mercy, pleading for the sweet relief of rest. But he couldn't afford to listen to these pleas. His very existence hinged on his ability to keep moving, to keep fighting.
The horned adversary continued his relentless attack, his swords whirling in a dizzying flurry of deadly steel. Alex dodged and weaved, parried, and struck, each move a testament to his will to survive, each evasion a silent declaration of his refusal to succumb. The creature seemed invincible, each of his strikes more forceful and deadly than the previous one, hammering away at Alex's dwindling strength.
Suddenly, the creature's sword found its mark, slicing across Alex's thigh. Pain seared through him like white-hot lightning, a wave of agony that threatened to swallow him whole. He staggered, his vision contracting to a pinprick of light as darkness threatened to engulf him. His reservoir of magic was nearly depleted. This potent source of power had sustained him thus far, had kept his injuries at bay, and had served as his sixth sense in detecting the creature's sword strikes.
The creature let out another mirthless laugh, forcing Alex back with a powerful push. It delighted in his suffering, its cruel taunts echoing in the chamber as it cornered Alex against the cold, hard stone of the battleground.
"Where is your defiance now, mortal?" the creature sneered, its swords raised menacingly. "Your pitiful magic cannot save you here. You are pathetic. Barely worth the fight." With that, it struck again, its blade slicing into Alex's other leg. A scream tore itself from Alex's throat, filling the chamber with the sound of his agony. “You barely rank among the lowest tier of fighters that I have slain. You will only live on in my memory as a worm that thought too grandly of itself.”
Alex gritted his teeth against the pain, his body wracked with anguish. His strength was draining rapidly, the excruciating pain threatening to pull him under. But his spirit, his determination, held firm. His defiance echoed in the chamber, filling the silence that followed the creature's mocking words.
"No," he rasped, his voice hoarse but steady, "I am not a worm. I am a man, and I will fight till my last breath."
The creature merely scoffed, launching another attack. Alex moved with all his will and let the sword run by the side of his broken armor.
“If I will die then you will die with me.”
Alex dropped the dagger in his right hand and went for his pockets. He removed the one thing he held on him The one thing that might save him in the moment or give his inhuman opponent one last thing to remember him by. Alex threw a small metal core onto the ground in front of the inhuman smashing it to pieces.
The core shattered, releasing an explosion of light and energy that filled the chamber. The creature let out a surprised gasp, its eyes widening in recognition and fear. "No, you fool! That's the—"
But it was too late. The gravity core of the automaton, now destroyed, warped the very fabric of the space around them. The gravity in the room shifted, distorting, pulling everything towards the shattered core. Alex's last dagger slipped from his grasp, joining the debris and spiraling into the violent vortex.
The creature howled the mirth in its voice replaced by terror. It struggled against the unseen force. Its swords were useless against the physics-defying pull. Its cruel taunts were drowned out by the tumult, its form stretching and distorting grotesquely before being pulled violently into the epicenter of the implosion.
Alex could only watch, his body pinned against the stone wall by the chaotic gravimetric forces. A grim satisfaction filled his heart as he watched the creature writhe and ultimately disappear into the gravity well. He had done it. The creature, his tormentor, was gone. The forces started to dissipate and felt the force pushing him against the wall lessen.
