Vampires aren't real. Sure, there’s been plenty of tales about bloodsucker throughout history, but let's concentrate on the Eastern European variety for now. The classic a la Dracula type. None of it about living forever by sucking human blood is true. Plenty of superstition, fear and ignorance, stirred together with a pinch of exaggeration - a few centuries pass and now we have modern science knocking down all of the theories and speculations we had. Now, when you think about vampires, they’re just another scary story or the poster child of a supernatural love story. If someone asked me this, I would answer: “There is no such thing as a vampire!“ I mean, really—I am not an expert. I'm just a normal high school student. Do I know anything about vampires? Of course not! Now that I think of it I might just play dumb after all and say, 'Vampires? Like Dracula? Do you really believe in that?' Yeah, straight up deny it. So, if anybody asked me whether vampires were real or not, I would have thought it was all quite ludicrous and simply laughed about such an absurd idea.
That is, until today.
Right here, in this country.
In this city.
At this school.
... In this classroom.
I met a vampire.
Part 1: Wild Vampire Girl
I swear I heard that sound.
A distinctive "nom" that echoed through the empty classroom. The kind of sound that shouldn't exist outside of a manga—and yet there it was, clear as day.
My body tensed up. Everything about this situation felt wrong, but one detail in particular stood out like a flashing warning sign:
I was bleeding from my neck.
Oh god, oh god—calm down. Just breathe. Not like you’re running out of blood or anything. Nope, just slowly fading away because a deranged vampire girl figured I’d satisfy her hunger today! No! This is totally fine. I’ll just walk this off—assuming I don’t collapse.
"Seriously, hold still," the girl said, casually wiping my blood from her lips. "It's not like you're dying or anything."
She spoke with that familiar bored expression I'd seen a thousand times in the hallways, as if this was just another mundane afternoon. Hisako Funai—the popular girl.Wiping MY BLOOD off her lips. What the hell kind of nightmare have I stumbled upon?
Hisako tilts her head, eyes glittering with mild amusement, as if this whole thing is no big deal. “Right. So, vampire, yes. But more importantly, you didn’t exactly leave me a lot of choices there, you know.”
No way. I misheard that. I had to mishear that. Is she seriously acting like I’m the problem here? I’m literally leaking blood from my neck! This doesn’t feel like a ‘no big deal’ situation at all!
“How can you possibly blame me for this?! You bit me!” My voice cracks slightly as I back up, my hand trembling over my neck.
Hisako blinked, her expression almost blank as she raised an eyebrow. “Uh, yeah, because you walked in on me. What did you expect me to do? Just wave and say ‘hi’?”
I quickly adjusted my glasses, still trying to process what just happened. "This is insane! You can’t just bite people because they surprise you!" My voice cracked again, panic rising as I pressed harder against my neck.
Hisako crossed her arms and narrowed her eyes, her calm demeanor slipping. "Oh really? What do you expect me to do, huh? You barged in while I was—" she stopped, waving her hand in frustration, "—busy! It’s not like I was expecting somebody to just barge in." Glaring at me, her foot tapped against the floor.
I stumbled back, my head spinning from a mix of blood loss and confusion. "What do I expect? I expect you to not bite me! You can’t bite everybody you see whenever you feel like it!"
Hisako groaned and rubbed her temples, her patience wearing thin. "Oh please, it’s not like I drained you dry! You’ll live! I was hungry, and you walked in! What did you think was gonna happen? I’d just… smile and wave?"
I pointed a finger at her, still struggling to wrap my head around it all. "Yes! Exactly! Smile, wave, maybe say something normal! You know, like a human would do?!"
Hisako clenched her jaw, clearly irritated now, and took a step toward me. "Do I look like I’m in the mood for small talk?! You startled me! My instincts kicked in!" She gestured dramatically, like that somehow explained everything. "You think I just go around biting everyone I meet? Give me a break!"
I could feel myself shaking, but there was no way I was backing down now. "Instincts?! That’s your excuse?! What kind of instincts make you bite the first guy who walks in on you?!" My breath was coming in short, panicked bursts as I tried to hold my ground, though my legs were trembling beneath me.
Hisako shot me a glare, leaning closer. "If you didn’t want to get bitten, you shouldn’t have shown up while I was busy! Ever think of that?!"
If you encounter this narrative on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
My eyes fluttered as I tried to take it all in, completely overwhelmed by everything. "Busy?! I didn’t get the memo that you have a feeding schedule!"
Hisako’s eyes flared, and she threw her hands up in frustration. "Well, now you know!" She huffed, turning away for a moment as if she needed to calm herself down. Her fingers twitched at her sides, and when she spoke again, her voice was slower, but still edged with annoyance. "This wasn’t exactly how I wanted my afternoon to go either, you know."
I groaned, barely managing to stay on my feet as I wiped more blood from my neck. "How is this my fault?! All I did was walk into the room! How was I supposed to know that there’d be a vampire drinking blood from a packet?!"
Hisako shot me a look that screamed annoyance. "It’s not like I had time to set up a warning sign! You barged in at the worst possible moment, and what did you expect me to do? Just ignore you?"
"YES!" I yelled, my voice cracking as I tried to process everything. "You could’ve just… not bitten me? I don’t know! That’s an option, right? I walk in, you say ‘hi,’ I leave, no blood involved?!"
She rolled her eyes, clearly losing her patience. "Oh please. I was trying to not make a scene, okay? And then you showed up, and things got a little… complicated."
"Complicated?!" I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. "You bit me! That’s more than just complicated! That’s a felony!"
Hisako groaned, rubbing her temples like she was explaining something to a child. "You’re not dead, so stop being so dramatic. I didn’t even take that much blood."
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. "Not that much blood? Are you seriously acting like biting someone is no big deal?!"
She rolled her eyes, clearly fed up. "Look, you don’t get it. It’s not like I wanted to bite you. It’s… instinct. When you barged in, I was already drinking blood. I was focused, and then you showed up, startled me, and before I knew it—" she waved a hand, gesturing vaguely toward my neck, "the bite just happened."
"Just happened?!" I pointed at my neck, incredulous. "You make it sound like it’s something that slips out like a sneeze!"
"It kind of is!" Hisako snapped, her voice rising in frustration. "When a vampire is in the middle of feeding, our instincts are heightened. If we sense any threat—or in this case, an interruption—we react. It’s reflexive! I don’t have full control in that moment!"
I adjusted my glasses, the words sinking in as I processed what she was saying. Instincts… right. Vampires, according to all those books I’d read, had heightened senses, especially when they were feeding. It’s just... hearing it from an actual vampire, standing in front of me, made it feel surreal. But it made sense. "So, you’re saying… it was just an instinct? Like some kind of reflex?"
Hisako crossed her arms, clearly frustrated that I wasn’t keeping up. "Exactly. It’s not like I go around biting people for fun, Keitarou. I had a moment of instinct—nothing more."
She sighed heavily, like I was the one making this more difficult than it needed to be. "And if you're wondering... You’re not gonna die." She hesitated, rubbing the back of her neck awkwardly before continuing, "But, uh… there is something you should probably know."
I didn’t like the way she said that. "Something I should know?"
She looked away, clearly avoiding eye contact as she muttered, "It’s not like the transformation happens all at once. You’ve got some time before, you know... the whole vampire thing kicks in."
My heart practically stopped. Wait... vampire bite... My mind raced, connecting the dots. "No way. You bit me. That means..." I stared at her, the realization hitting me. "I’m going to turn into a vampire, aren’t I?!"
Hisako blinked, then sighed. "Not immediately."
I felt my stomach twist. "Not immediately? What does that mean?! You bit me! That’s how this works, right? I’m going to turn!"
She rubbed the back of her neck awkwardly. "Well, yeah… but it’s not like it happens overnight. You’ve got some time before the full transformation kicks in."
I blinked, still trying to grasp what she was saying. "Time? How much time?"
Her eyes flicked toward me, then away, like she didn’t want to answer. "About... thirty days."
"About... thirty days."
That was all I needed to hear.
Before she could say anything else, my legs moved on their own. I was out of the classroom before I even realized it, my heart pounding in my ears as I tore down the hallway. Thirty days? Thirty days until I’m a vampire?! What the hell kind of timeline is that?!
I sprinted past the lockers, barely noticing the surprised looks from the few students lingering in the halls. My mind was spinning, every thought colliding with the next. This can’t be happening. I’ve read about this stuff a million times. Get bitten by a vampire, you turn into one. That’s how it works. That’s always how it works!
And now… now it’s happening to me. To me—Keitarou Isa, the guy who just wanted to get through high school unnoticed! I wasn’t supposed to become part of some supernatural nightmare!
My chest tightened as I rounded the corner, the cool air from the open window hitting my face. Thirty days… I only have thirty days before I turn into some bloodsucking monster. Thirty days to figure out what to do. Thirty days until I lose everything—my normal life, my basically nonexistent friends... maybe even my humanity.
Blood was still trickling from the wound, my breath coming in short, frantic bursts. Calm down, I told myself, but it didn’t help. Every step I took felt like I was running toward some inevitable fate I had no control over. This wasn’t just some weird dream I could wake up from. This was real.
And I had no idea what to do.

Part 2: 30 days to go!
Thirty days. Thirty days. Thirty days.
That’s all I could hear in my head. My heartbeat pounded with the thought as I sat in my room, curled up in my desk chair, staring at the faint glow of my computer screen. I had already Googled "vampire transformation" three times in different ways, hoping for something, anything. But all I got were fake forums, clickbait articles, and nonsense. Nothing helpful. Nothing real.
