Jess drove to the gym. It seemed as if every car on the road was just there to annoy her.

The seemingly endless cars on a road that should normally be empty left her stranded at the intersection for an eternity.

Then there was the idiot that reversed out of their park without even looking (almost crashed into that guy). Then, that same idiot decided to drive like a snail, making a short trip, feel like hell. She was almost tempted to overtake him.

Finally, she arrived at the gym. Jess had been going to the gym for a few months now and had been very consistent - going almost every day.

She had also started a diet; low calories, low carbs, low fat, low sugar, low dairy, low gluten, no read meat, and no food. That last one was a joke.

But she had been very strict, keeping track of every last calorie she ate.

Her goal at the gym was to gain muscle. Not to be completely ripped like some nutbars but more on the lean side; wiry muscle, as the call it.

First, she started with stretches. She wasn't about to pull some muscle just because she was lazy. Half an hour later she moved on the bicycle.

Sure, her goal was to gain muscle, but what use is muscle without endurance. For 20 minutes she cycled at a fast speed on a high intensity. Then she moved to the treadmill.

What? A mix of cardio and weight lifting is good.

After a while, it was time to make some gains. Jess grabbed a couple of 8kg dumbells and started doing various arm exercises.

She could probably do a higher weight but she preferred doing more reps.

40 minutes later she started doing leg workouts. Squats, lunges and a few more. Currently, she was able to squat 80kg. Jess could feel she was getting stronger over the months.

After almost 3 hours of working out (breaks included) she was finished. Some might say she was obsessed with the gym but she wasn't working at the moment. She wasn't going to spend all her time bored at home.

The gym she was at had a vending machine filled with energy drinks. She found herself dying of thirst but seriously lacking in the bank department.

After a short internal crisis Jess figured out what to do. In fact, she knew what she was going to do the whole time, but if she didn't at least hesitate that probably wouldn't be good.

She texted Daniel.

Daniel

Can u transfer me 15 bux

I'm at the gym and I'm really hungry and thirsty

Working out takes up a lot of energy, she told herself. He soon replied,

Yeah, whatever

Thanks, u da man ,she texted back.

A couple minutes later she received another message from Daniel,

Done

Thank you

I'll owe u back on tuesday

Now, this vending machine had paywave, which meant she could pay just by touching her card to the... thing. Anyway, what this also meant was she could use her phone to pay, which was great for her as she had lost her card months ago.

She bought herself a drink then sat in her car. She spent a minute scrolling, trying to find a song to play and eventually settled on some Korean girl group song.

She then drove, still finding half of everyone trying to annoy her. Especially when she got to the parking lot. Seriously, it was probably the worst designed parking lot in history.

Finding a park, Jess got out and made her way inside MkDonald's...

What? It had been weeks since she last went to MkDonald's and she was only gonna get a mkchicken.

She ordered at the self serve touchscreen device thing and sat at one of the tables; the one farthest from the checkout.

It was about 3pm so all those annoying highschool kids were coming in. She even saw a group of them bring in pizza and eat at one of the tables without ordering anything.

Jess wasn't one to get involved with other people's business but she did shake her head.

It didn't take long before she got her food; a mkchicken and a black coffee. She ate, logged in the calories in her app, then left. Those teenagers were getting on her nerves, which was weird because she was barely 21 herself.

Exhausted, she drove home, still finding it incredibly annoying. When she got home she immediately got in bed. She just wanted to go to sleep.

...

Like that was ever gonna happen. Only 2 minutes into her so-called "rest" and she was already on her phone.

She was rewatching one of her favourite tv shows from back in the day (really only a couple of years ago).

"Tap tap." There was a light knock on the door.

"Yeah?" Jess said.

"Do you have my phone charger?" it was her brother Daniel.

"Uhh, yeah," she said as her hand searched around for the charger.

Daniel came in just as she found it and she handed the charger to him, after which he left.

Jess took this time to think about how bored she was. She wanted to do something, she wanted to go somewhere.

She could go her sister Nessa's house just around the corner but everyone there was going a bit crazy at the moment.

Maybe Jane's? She always seemed like she was really stressed and didn't want anyone over.

Interrupting her thoughts, a text came. It was from her sister Belle.

Jess

I'm at kate's house

Yoy should come down

Kate was another one of her sisters. Her mum and Kate lived right next to each other in the town over.

Yep ,she replied
