Awake

James  woke  up  on  a  sandy  isle  with  a  silver  dagger  in  his  hand  he  estimated it was noon.  He  remembered  almost  nothing  but  his  name,  James  but  not  his  surname.  Another thought floated  up in  the  river  of  his  empty  mind,  a  green  flash  and  a  club  to  the  face, then  he  was  here. The  blade  had  ineligible  runes  on  it, but  they  seemed...  faded.  The  confused  boy  decided   to  scan  his  surroundings,  the  isle  was  big  enough  around  fifty  kilometres  lengthwise  and  twenty  in  width.

Enough  to  get  lost. The  island  seemed  to  be  deserted,  there  was  no  signs  of  human   life  anywhere.  James  began  to  walk  along  the  sandy  beach,  he  enjoyed  the  crunching  of  sand under  his  feet, it  felt  warm  and  sunk  nicely  under  his  feet. James  stepped  on  a  shard  of glass  as  sharp  as  a  sword.  He  cycled  through  his  list  of  Latin  curse  words,  wait  Latin? How  did  he  know  Latin?  But  that  was  the least of his concerns, the shard of glass was more than a nuance, it means someone was here. The struck foot was rapidly bleeding out, it was like a volcano of blood. The skin was barely visible, caked in crimson.  James found the nearest palm tree, tore off a leaf and wrapped his foot, it wasn't Apollo's medicine but it would suffice. He tried putting weight on it but a shot of pain lanced up his leg whenever he tried.

With a grumble the injured child snapped off two branches and used them as makeshift crutches, once again not fantastic but it would have to work for now. He limped for another three before the sun began to set.

James decided to make camp. The 'camp' was more of a big cone made of big sticks and thick branches he found around the islands, he then draped it with leaves and  scorched , hard mud to make a sort of roof. It looked horrendously ugly but it would hopefully provide enough  shelter to shield the boy from the oncoming storm. He looked out to the horizon, bloated clouds painted the sky Gray, thunder boomed across the land and lightning shocked the ground.

James smelt smoke from around a mile away, how did he smell that far James had no idea. he turned his gaze up and saw a small section of the forest was aflame.

An idea washed down his head, he rushed around, collecting sticks and dry leaves to make a camp fire. He then found a piece of flaming charcoal and cautiously shoved it into his camp fire, just as he had hoped the camp fire instantly went up in flames. the fire was wild and might very well burn James to a crisp but it was his only hope for warmth. The oncoming night was going to be cold, wet and loud, somehow even the thought of that made James shudder.  He guessed it was around five in the afternoon, he still had some time to prepare. As soon as he said that his stomach grumbled as if to say "Food. Now"

With a sigh James went out looking for food. After pushing endless jungle and finding more venomous animals than he thought possible as well as getting about three  thousand mosquito bites James was about to turn back and sleep when he saw a delicious looking hare, he estimated it was imported by some long-ago travellers and might have diseases but James knew if he didn't eat today he would most likely die. The hungry boy waited until the time and angle was right then pounced. James strangled the hare with adrenaline strength. The poor thing squealed before quickly dying. James couldn't take his eyes off the silver dagger, it runes seemed so... familiar yet so distant like the answer was on the tip of his mind. Thtang! James woke up to the sound of a volley of arrows being shot at him. He got up so quickly he almost rolled into the burned sticks. When he pivoted his gaze up he saw the most beautiful woman he had ever laid eyes on, he knew this even though his memory was gone. She was around seven feet tall, she wore a green leather hunters outfit, with real leaves as shoulder guards. Her face had no blemishes, and atop her head were reindeer antlers. James was almost too stunned to speak but he managed to find his voice "Uh, ma'am, what did I do?"  he said shrinking back into his hut. A grim look passed her face, "You killed my sacred animal the hare, and you showed up on my sacred island uninvited " she said with a stern voice, "Umm, my lady I didn't know, I woke up here I don't even know my own surname, ", "Sure you did, and unicorns are real"
