                                Chapter 11 : Aftermath

72day of  Finore, year 853 A.C.

Camp.

The army just returned victorious. In the fight half of the legions died, 600 mercenaries and 100 mages.

Aving come to me and begin speaking

“I can't believe that you really defeated six fifth tier mages.”

“Indeed I killed them, but in the process only me and Oswyn survived.”

“War victims!” he exclaimed.

“By the way Zephyr…” William spoke “You must come with me to the capital.”

“Why ?” I asked.

“Well, I’m sure that the king would want to meet you and if you come with me to the capital we will save some time. The marquis and his son will come to.”

That's upsetting, I don't want to meet the king, and now I can't avoid it.

“If you put it that way… I will come.”

The next day in the morning we departed to the capital.

Cadun

The Capital is a city five times the size of Traford. He is divided in 3 different districts, everyone with a layer of walls. In the highest district are living the nobles and the royal family, in the middle district are living the wealthy citizens and in the lower district are living the peasants.

Right now i'm in the second district. The marquis and Oswyn are gone to live in the first district, as guests, but I chose to stay here.

I'm hosted at a inn in the center of the district. The street, is a lively one and most people are very nice, even with the strangers. I got out of the inn and started to walk towards a building at the end of the street.

The building is four stories tall and it stretches over 200 square metres. This is the central library of the city. It's almost two hundred years old and contains a variety of books.

I stepped inside. The entrance room was a rectangle type room. On the left side was a bookshelf that occupies the entire wall. The books seemed to be well maintained. Those were books that you could buy . On the right side was a desk with a old woman  behind it.

On the large wall in front of me was a big hallway and four guards of each side of the hallway entrance. The heavily guarded entrance showed how much precios was the information inside the library.

I walk to the desk and start speaking with the old woman. Judging by her appearance she looked like in her seventies.

“Good morning. I would like to use the library.”

The woman twitches from her sleep and looks at me with amazement. Usually the library didn't have so much visitors. Those that visited more were often old persons. It was pretty unusual that a kid like Zephyr to visit.

“One entrance is 300 coopers. If you wish to make a subscription for this year, that would be 10.000 coopers”

I take out 300 coopers from my pocket. “A single entrance please.”

At the hearing of the words, the old woman seemed a little disappointed. She takes the money and gives me a iron symbol. After that she points at the hallway. I receive the symbol and I gave it to a soldier. After that I enter the library.

Traford – cathedral

Ephes Payne was standing in the middle of the chapel. Anger and perplexity could be seen of his face. Being the cardinal of the church means that he is responsable of the events which involves the church on the kingdom's territory. A few minutes ago, he was informed that not only that the kingdom's army succeeded in destroying the invading army, but in the fight, all the priests which the church detached were killed.

‘How is this possible?’ He thought to himself.

In the invading army should have been six fifth tier mages, and how come that all the priests sent to hinder the kingdom's army were killed?

‘This is too odd. Clearly that someone figure out our plans. But there was someone in the army that was able to fight with all those six mages?’

‘No way!’ He refused immediately the idea.

‘Not even a sixth tier mage could be able to fight six fifth tier mages. The only explanation is that the are had a sixth tier mage that took the mages one by one, or ambushed them.’ This was the only explanation that he could come out with. Only a mage from the Magocracy council would have the power, items and resources to take out that amount of powerful mages.

‘I need to inform the Magocracy immediately.’ With those last words, he left the room.
