Prologue

It's cold.

Ever since I went to sleep I've been drifting in this cold emptiness.

There is nothing here. It's just me and the cold.

I've tried to move, but it was futile. No matter what I tried, I remained stuck in the same position.

I don't even know how long it has been since I came here, but it doesn't matter.

I stopped caring about time after a while, and accepted the fact that I'm stuck here.

Hope? I lost that already. So, what do I have left? Nothing.

I'm waiting miserably for my suffering to end. Be that because my sense of self dies, or because of something else.

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.

Inside this void, everything is meaningless.

That's what I thought, until something changed.

Without any warning, a warm light blinded my eyesight. The cold feeling I've had since the beginning dissapeared, and my consciousness became clearer.

Could this be salvation?

I didn't want to get my hopes revived for nothing, and yet I found myself wanting to reach out for the warm light.

To my surprise, I was able to move. And so, I reached out.

As if responding to my actions, the light came nearer, enveloping all around me.

The darkness that I've lived with for who knows how long was gone.

I could feel something calling me, beyond the light.

It felt... welcoming.

Whatever it was didn't matter. This might be my only chance at salvation.

I took a step forward, and the feeling intensified.

I kept on walking, without looking back.

Everything started to become clear. My feelings, my thoughts, they weren't as muddled.

So, I run.

Without any awareness of where I was going, I marched towards a new unknown.

What would await me beyond? I would find out soon.
