31: The Book Binders of Omo Pimo

Maybe you can carry something that, when activated, brings you to a gateway.

Lohmen rolled his last words to Varga around in his head. It would certainly explain how Thesdon had disappeared without a trace. Perhaps he was tying his shoe and was abducted. And of course, there was the mage that Yerik saw talking with Tomeera who seemed to vanish into thin air.

Thoughts played in Lohmen’s mind as he raced across the countryside determined to catch Yerik on his journey back down from lu Kipa.

Lohmen rode into the town of Momun in the realm of Omo Pimo, a small but bustling community nestled in the rolling hills of the countryside.(insert banner type and story at the gates.) He took the time to sketch the details of the Banner knowing he was in a pretty good position to catch Yerik if he were on the move. Then he walked his horse to the town’s Book Binder shop. After tethering the black mount, he stepped inside.

The familiar smells and sights flooded his senses and, for a moment, took him back to a time when what he might paint next was his biggest concern. A call from the operator brought him back to the present.

“Good day, Ser. How can I help you?” the shopkeeper asked. She was in her fifties and plump with a round face to match. She had short bobbed hair pinched back with simple black berets above her ears. She looked very much like Yerik’s father and assumed she was a close relation. Though she was speaking to Lohmen her eyes were on the only other patron in the shop who was making his way to the door. When he stepped outside and the door closed the shopkeeper turned her attention Lohmen.

“Welcome, illuminator!” She said in an excited whisper. “We’ve heard of your lot, but never imagined I’d meet an illuminator! I say! What can I do for you?”

This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.

Lohmen stepped up to the counter and explained how he was to meet Yerik 2 days ago in Kunnan to discuss some paint and paper type combinations. He did his best to leave Yerik’s cover in tact, though he wasn’t sure how much Yerik would be able to help. Lohmen went on to explain that he knew Yerik from Munum and that he worked his way north and then back down again and that he was hoping to catch him since he was late for their meeting.

“Hmmm, no he hasn’t been back yet, but we’re not expecting him till tomorrow night. That boy’s like clockwork.”

Lohmen scratched his head, and thanked the Book Binder for her assistance before he began to browse the shelves. The shop was smaller than the one back in Munum, but it was well-stocked with books on a wide range of subjects. Lohmen was particularly interested in the history section, and he spent some time looking through the various books with titles like The Arrival, The Ancient Wars, and Theories on Each of the Wonders of the Realms: Illustrated Edition.

Lohmen replaced a book on Goblin behaviour, thanked the book binder and left the shop. When he rejoined his horse, he took a quick look at this notes.

If they aren’t expecting Yerik until tomorrow, he might not even be in Kunnan yet.

With the assumption that he now had a full day before his meeting, at least if the Book Binder were to be believed, he decided to use the time to rest and catch up on his painting. He found a local inn and took a meal at the Prongs & Papers tavern. If the book binder were wrong, Yerik would be by that night, not tomorrow so he figured that waiting in Momun was the most prudent course of action. If he didn’t see Yerik that night, he’d ride out with plenty of time to make lunch at the Bard and Bass in Poshnum.
