Chapter 1: Explosion

Chapter 1

It’s a foggy night in Ashmore, a city known for its high crime rate and burglaries. Under the city its filled with rat’s, cockroaches and other insect crawling around the city sewages. In this stinky and inhabitable area under the city, there lies a lab behind the sewage wall. filled with all sorts of machines, testing tubs, and tanks filled with unknown liquids.

The place is dark and eerie, with the only light sources coming from the huge tanks emitting a light green color and the lights from the machines and computers. In the middle stands a huge contraption that is producing huge amounts of energy.

"Prof. Eary, you have gone mad; with this continuous power usage, the whole metropolitan area will suffer a power outage."

In a trembling voice, the young scientist, who appeared to be in his mid-twenties and was dressed in his standard white lab coat, said.

"Could you stop babbling?" "A few hours ago, I received a connection from the other side." "If my theory is correct, this must be the biggest scientific discovery."

Prof. Eary said while he continued to type furiously on his keyboards.

If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

"But professor, what is this other side you speak about, and why on god’s earth do you need so much energy?" The young scientist responded, but didn’t hear anything except the sound of keyboards being clicked and the huge machines roaring as they were fed with energy.

With the lack of information, the young scientists was  frustrated in his current predicament. He was attempting to steal Professor Eary's work for a secret intelligence agency. He won three Nobel prizes and invented many other inventions, his latest being neurochips. a chip that is implanted in the brain and is stored with current information. allowing everyone to become geniuses

The government and intelligence agencies don’t know his next project. They had sent him into this situation for his assistance as an undercover agent. But ever since Prof. Eary had started his newest project, he had become more paranoid than ever, not even allowing anyone to come to his work, including his assistant. Leaving him to do the boring paperwork and bringing coffee to him at different intervals

"Where is my coffee?" "I need some more energy and focus." "I am so close, I can't stop right now."

As the assistant scientist approached him with his coffee, his leg became entangled in the massive power cords connecting the machines, causing him to flum over, leaving the coffee cup filled with hot liquid flying overhead and lying on Prof. Eary's precious quantum computer, spelling out its content all over.

As the hot liquid was sucked into the gaps of the computer, reaching the motherboard, battery, and other places where coffee should not belong. Small electrical lines could be seen as they were flared upward.

["ERROR, ERROR"] - Computer

Multiple small error screens could be seen in the computer, indicating that something is seriously wrong.

"You buffoon, what have you done?" Prof. Eary had said as he turned around to look at his assistant with bloodshot eyes.

["Overload" "Overload"] - computer

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean it; I had tripped over something," he frantically responded.

"Hurry, turn off the power cords now, or it might explode from the overload," as Prof. Eary said while pointing the power cord under his idiotic assistant.

Meanwhile

In the streets of Ashmore, a young man of around six feet in height, fitted with his gray hoodie and black shorts, is jogging back to his house during the dark of night, having to use the surrounding streetlight.

"Darn it I should have jogged earlier and my heads hurt from that implant, it’s already dark and I heard multiple stories of mugging happening around here. "I really hope nothing happens."

Just as he was about to speed up, he heard

flick, flick, zoom

"Just my luck. I can’t see anything now. What’s wrong with the power line lately? "It feels like it is getting worse," the young man said in a furious tone.

With no cellphone or flashlight, he hopes to return home with only the faint outline of the street and neighborhood to guide him. But as he was about to step forward

BOOM
