During a night raid, I found an ork outpost so I set up a reaper hive to welcome my arrival to the area. As I was setting up a reaper hive, I swept the area around me with long range divine sense to pick out my next target. To the north was a ork base and to the south was another near train tracks. I was about to head north to the bigger base, but my divine sense picks up hundreds of orks in body bags.
I blink once, then to cover my base I go to my fans watching me livestream "My girlfriend is calling. I'll launch a bunch of drones for you to watch." Then turn off my helmet cam. My wives call me all the time, so my fans are used to this, not happy about it. But they understand that I did not want them to hear my lovey dovey talks.
I promptly sent the reapers to attack the ork outpost and order a group of ten to carry the reaper hive north and stash it three miles from the base. Which meant the other two hundred and ninty reapers would swarm the small outpost and once they were done to attack the big base in the north. I then headed south with a very big grin under my helmet.
I stumbled upon a mass ork dead storage site neatly stacked in their body bags. I decided to gave the orks a preview of the zombie apocalypse when I turn to necromancy and raise all the dead orks in range and had them follow me. I raise an isolation barrier to avoid the stench of the dead and made sure to have the newly made three hundred zombies moan out brains in orkish for fun. Then I headed over to the next zombie resource site and raise them too. My divine sense tells me two more resource sites were available.
They were located next to a railroad, so my zombie resources was about to be sent home. I felt kind of bad for using the bodies for greater mass animate zombie horde spells. But twelve hundred zombies made for a decent size zombie horde I could not pass up. I sick them on the nearby ork army base and toss a dozen invisible dragonfly recon drones to record the event for the zombie cultists among my people.
My people have been watching zombie movies with delight. I set the tag on the dragonflies for my people only, with access from the twentieth floor and deeper. I had no idea what the world would think if they knew I can raise so many undead. The best ukrainian necromancer I knew could only raise a score of undead, so I thought I should keep this under wraps for my own people to enjoy.
Zombies can not run as they tend to trip and fall down, but they can do a fast walk. Since they never tire, they can out walk most humans given enough time. No, they do not need brains, just living life force. So once their victim is dead, they will stop eating, and eventually the partially eaten corpse will have a decent chance to rise as the newely risen to hunt the living.
Also you do not need to shoot their heads, just cause enough damage to disperse their undead essence. Which mean bullets are nearly useless, unless you use lots of bullets. So a good sword to chop them into several pieces is more effective. Though you have to be careful if you cut the legs off, you get a crawling zombie that is just as sleightly less dangerous.
The ork base had no chance, they were overunned by the horde in the middle of the night. The soon to be risen had desparately used grenades that destroy some zombies, but in the end the horde grew to fourteen hundred zombies. I directed them toward the the nearby airfield who had gone to red alert after hearing the gun fire and grenade explosions from the base the zombies had destroyed.
As the searchlights found the zombies heading their way, the orks were shocked seeing bloodied ork soldier shuffling their way. Thinking they were surviviors from the base, they let the zombies get closer until they realize something was not right and they zombies let out a concerted moan in orkish "Braaains!"
Then all hell broke use as the zombies fast walked or crawled their way toward living flesh they crave. They orks opened fire, machine guns drop zombies by the score, but the zombies just stood back up. The orks were panicking, but soon realize they needed to riddle a zombie to take it down. So they began concentrating their fire and began slowly widdling the zombies down.
However, this allow more zombies to close the distance. Orks began throwing grenades and found that to be rather effective as zombies close to the blast were destroyed. But many zombies stood right back up to scare the britches out of ork defense line. Then six alligators joined the fight and began launching rockets and adding their machine guns into the defense that took out packs of zombies. The ork ground troops cheered thinking their helocopters will tip the scale.
Until three micro missile slam into their under belly and three alligators exploded into bits that rained down on the ork defenders. The other three alligators realize the danger of hovering in place to mow down the zombies and began to scatter. I see two bank to my left and one bank to my right. I raise my modified ssw40 and blew the one on the right into fragments.
A second later, my backpack reloaded the three launchers and picked off the two fleeing to my left while the third micro missile blew an infantry vehicle to bits silencing it suppressive fire. I continue to blow up armor vehicles and machine gun nests to give the zombie horde a fighting chance. They had massacre about six hundred zombies already, but now the zombies were able to over run the defensive line. The screams of the soon to be risen filled the air as the zombies feasted on their living comrades. Each bite transfering undead essence into the living.
As the last orks died, the zombies lost interest in eating and poured into the airfield looking for more living to eat. Jets were taking off to evaculate to safety, but micro missile brought them down before they could fly far. The orks soon realize this and stop taking off after I shot down their seventh flight. The remaining ork troops fled into building to make their last stand. While important personal loaded into vehicles and put the pedal to the medal and fled east.
The remaining orks fired from windows or from the roof of buildings as eight hundred zombies assaulted the building. Micro missiles blew openings in the buildings allowing the the zombies to pour in for third dinner. Around three hundred newly risen rose from the ork defense line and rush towards the building to get their share of living essense.
Orks on the roof stared in horror as they watch their former comrades rush towards them moaning brains as they came. Many wet their pants and fled, jumping down the back of the buildings to flee after their officers. Nearly three hundred zombies sensing food escaping took off after them. The rest pour into openings I made to feast on the living packed within.
Over six hundred zombies entered the buildings, only three hundred came out to chase after the fleeing. I was calmly destroying aircraft and vehicles, making sure their was nothing left for the orks to use. Then some two hundred and fifty newly risen pour out of the buildings and I point eastward and they all fast walk their way to look for the escaping fast food.
After taking care of anything of military use, I head back to airport outer defense line. Undead energies had turned the defeated zombies into skeletons while the partially eaten orks that failed to rise up as zombies lay in puddles of their own blood. I prompty cast a wide area decay spell that striped the flesh off the bones. Then I cast a greater animate skeleton horde spell, though many skeletons failed to rise and turned to dust, nearly four hundred skeletons pick themselves off the ground and formed ranks before me.
They still carried their weapons, as skeletons are retain some of their intelligence and are able to use weapons unlike zombies. I order them to load up on extra weapons and ammo and sent them east to kill living orks. They promptly raiding the building for heavy weapons, then automactically gather into teams of six skeletons and headed east after their zombie brothers. Unlike the fast walking zombies, the skeletons could jog at a decent clip.
I then flew north to see what the reaper hive was up to while unleashing six more invisible dragonflies to record the skeletons at play. Skeletons do not eat the living, they just enjoy killing the living. The thing about skeletons is that they lose much of the memories, but one thing they never forget is their hatred. So the skeletons move eastward with intend to kill those who have wronged them. In a war which their officers treated them like cannon fodder, every skeleton eyes burn bright red as their hunt eastward.
It took the orks three days to wipe out the undead horde. The newly risen zombies were a nightmare to finish off. The orks ended up using tanks and aircraft to finish off the zombies. But the skeletons had turned into a major problem, with captured anti tank and anti air portables, they manage to destroy fourteen tanks and down six aircraft and four helocopters before being finally wiped out.
A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.
Both sides had necromancers, but they could only raise a handful of zombies or skeletons. Raising a horde is unthinkable, but add in advance necromancy, a undead orb specialized in raising undead and of course mana banks to spend to increase the number of undead raised. The madman of orkia roared his displeasure, but with out any evidence, could only guess I was the culprit.
But I stayed silient and watch in pleasure as he ranted endlessly for days. My decision to not broadcast openly save me from lots of heat when I decide to go the undead route. So only my people from floor twenty and deeper were allow to watch my necromantic antics. Since the real worlders were stuck on floor seventeen floor boss, I was safe for a while.
Since I ignore all questions about the undead horde, the world turn to the natural occurance of undead outbreaks. Which happens when a large number of dead accumulate. It had happened before, during plagues and wars, so the world simply blamed it on a natural undead outbreak and warned the orks to take better care of their dead. Secretly the world glared at me, but since my cultivation can keep a decent poker face, they eventually stop guessing.
I did not know at the time that the high rez restriction drone videos would be used for the first underworld zombie movie. One which would turn viral upon release to the real world. Though the battle computers had edit out the orkish insignias and replaced them with generic ones. Still many in the world would guess it was combat footage from undead outbreak in the orkian war dubbed in english.
Many who could read lips in orkish were able to confirm that the soldiers were speaking orkish. The fact that it was far too realistic only convince people that it was indeed film during the undead outbreak.
The one thing that did support it was a movie was that the zombies were moaning out brains. A totally movie convention, so even if people say the soldiers were speaking orkish. The brain thing was obviously a popular cult zombie trick. With zombie cultist laughing their ass off when over a thousand zombie moan out brains and rush the airfield.
The battle computers had even made a nearby cemetary come alive as skeletons rose from the graves to mill about. When the zombies attack the first base, the skeletons attacted to the noise move to investigate and arm themselves with fallen weapons. Then hearing the zombie assault begin on the nearby airfield march over to join the fight.
So the battle computer manage to erase my presense and substitute skeletons with anti tank and anti air shoulder weapons. They did an excellent job adding a smoke trail and large missiles to mask my micro missiles. With a total of eighteen dragonflies recording the skeleton and zombies killing their way east.
With so many camera angles from a zombie viewpoint to various birds eye view, most people where convinced it had to be a movie. The fact the the movie was portraying the zombie outbreak in ukraine meant actors had to speak orkish for realism and then dubbed in english for western audience. In the end, it was nominated as the best undead battle in movie history. With a skeleton aiming a Kornet scene won the most popular vote.
I happened to experience the active denial system that heats up the skin. Niffy piece of equipment that I did a bit of tinkering on, just increase the range and area coverage. Nothing too much, as I did not see a need for improvements to the non lethal device. But it reminded me of an old weapon restriction called phantom pain, which normally used in a dagger to torture noble victims without causing real damage to their skin. After all, you get more hostage money if they have no physical wounds. Nobles are particular about scars that did not come from duel or the battlefield.
I remember in my ancient memories I used a phantom pain dagger on hostile females I did not want to kill. A single stab was usually enough to keep them in line as they rather not be stabbed a second time. So I pulled out the trusty restriction out and began tinkering with it as I created my version of the active denial system.
A field of phantom pain was more than enough to drop mortals to their hands and knees. To trap enough orks to be useful, the activation range control is set to half range. So when the first ork trigger the field, it activate the field of pain to max range catching any ork following behind for fifty meters. While the traps orks scream their imaginary pain way, three flares skyrocket in the air to burst into radiance, enchanted with continual light and magnified by restrictions lit up the countryside for miles.
Ukrainians sentries open fire at the crawling orks, as they did their best to crawl out of range while being dissected by aliens in their minds. I added an illusionary layer, since it is a modern myth, I made everyone experience being captured by alien researchers that dissect them to learn what makes an ork tick. Orks quickly avoid the frontlines I happened to be camping at to avoid experiencing that torture.
During the day, I made a new shell to resemble a himars strike and every ork in the phantom pain field suffer an illusionary amputation of one or more limbs from illusionary tungsten balls blowing their limbs away. I then led the ukrainians that followed me in to capture the mewling orks and kill the few that resisted.
The ukrainian intelligence officer was wildly estatic, the capturing of an ork forward command center intact was quite valuable in the first week of the war. We learn of the orkian plans and the ukrainians took step to counter those plans north of kyiv. My prototype ogre on the second day had caught the ukrainian high command's attention. So now I have a squad of ukrainian soldiers following me and a intelligence officer who job was to relay anything I need.
I'm a wizard, so I smoke pipeweed, it makes you stoned but improves your willpower. It aids in combat spellcasting, casting spells is hard enough as is, but pipeweed help wizards focus for spellcasting. That is why you see many veteran mages smoke the stuff. The younger generation think it is disgusting habit.
I was smoking pipeweed in a camp in a nation being invaded by orks, I was in a mood for slinging spells today. My older ukrainian follower all keep the newbs in place, they know it's best to keep their distance when I begin throwing spells at the orks.
Last night I saw the distance search lights from a orkian fortress across the border. I sent an invisible drone to check it out. Build on wide rocky hill, with three rows of reinforced concrete bunkers rising up it sides. It had everything, real dragon teeth that have been sunk a meter down, allowing two meters to stick above ground. It's concrete tank ditches that were ten meters wide and five meters deep. No vehicle falling in will get out as there were no exit ramps built.
It had enough machine guns on the first level to make it a nightmare for infantry. On the second level were alternating cannons and large mortars that can lob shells twenty miles away. On top was it air defense, surrounded by a thick wall with plenty of autocannons to provide support fire.
The best orkian wizards guard these border fortress, so had magic barriers all over the place. The biggest barrier is protecting the small circular wall that protects their air defense batteries. No doubt the officers live in their, as it is obvious has the best magical barrier.
I laugh when I saw the ugly thing and knew what to do for my first attack. After I finish my pipeweed and get in a final stretch to get my muscle going. I cast a personal barrier and activate my battlegears as well. Did a quick check on my mana banks and see I am connected and at full capacity.
I cast a flight spell and took off as my friendly ukrainians cheer me a good hunting. I even toss down a smile as I departed. Those big brothers down there are quite friendly towards me and I do not know why. I suppose saving their lives multiple times makes them grateful.
My first spell was a greater earthquake spell the shatter the foundation of the fortress and left many gaping cracks in their carefully created border fortress. Their defensive barriers provided little protection as I pump all the manabanks to cause maximum area damage. To top it off, I then casted a greater volcanic eruption spell the blew the entire fortress to bits.
Lava pour out of every window in the fortress, ensuring the border fortress was completely unusable. Munitions detonating create new holes for lava to pour out of. Eventually the volcano spell ended and the lava cooled off to encase ninty percent of the fortress in new rock. A multi billion ork fortress now completely useless.
I posted a pic of the fortress with < to my greater volcanic spell to make my fans laugh. The madman of orkia ranting for does, but with the bounty so high as it is, he did not raise it any further to my dissappointment.
A month later, Mena ogre was born, an early april morning, the orks were forced to battle my third ogre. I liked the battleship design as it was more mobile than the squared foundation I used for kyiv. Like all previous ogres, my helpful ukrainian followers spent the last nightly hours painting ukrainian colors. But this time, it was not striped in blue and yellow, now a big bold one stripe of blue cover the deck and up and single yellow to covering the foundation half. Though they did paint the top half of the forward and backward plows blue. Maybe they wanted orks watching their rear view mirrors understand ukraine was chasing them.
Looking professional for the first time, the Mena ogre really took the stage as it blasted away with thirty built in turrets. Increasing the cannons survivability as they are no longer exposed to direct fire. Twenty popup missile launchers and a ridiculous two hundred machine guns for point defense. With auto targeting homming magic ammoed munitions, the Mena ogre finally honored the game it was derived from.
Incoming shells and missiles were riddled to pieces before they could detonate on Mena's protective barrier. Three days of battling before the ork amassed enough fire power to bring Mena finally down. Their key to victory this time was bringing enough mages to bring down Mena's barrier. To avenge Mena, I incinerated all the participating enemy mages by creating a storm of lightning bolts that turn the twenty three ork mages into piles of ash. The madman promptly double my bounty.
