- And so Sir Jack The Grim was the sole survivor. But he still had his orders, to destroy Goblins Tribe Confederation no matter the cost. Since he had no chance in direct fight, he chose malevolent approach. First he marry himself into medium-sized tribe...
- He did what?!
- You heard me. From there he quickly climbed up in the tribal hierarchy since he was much stronger than any goblin in direct fight, until he end up their chief. In a year he managed to turn half confederation against another half and an all out war brooked out. He personally lead his tribe into its final battle. The Confederation was done for. According to him it was pure hell. The caves were littered with goblin bodies and flooded with goblin blood." That was a good day" - he said.
He returned to the theocracy as a hero. And until the end of his days he was revered as the greatest Goblin Layer. I mean Slayer. He was a true paragon of our ways and inspiration to us all.
- Inspiration...you couldn't possibly suggest that we should...
- Of coarse not! I'm too young for this! You however almost at the age already. Oi, stop, I was a joke! A joke I tell you! Ayeeee!
Two days has passed since they received their new quest. On first, they only eat, bath, rest and complain to each other about the insanity of Sensay's training.
On second, they try to scout the tribe, since according to "briefing" the tribe does not attack everyone on sight and even have some human members among it ranks.
When they reached edge of woods they saw fields of wheat and a tall palisade wall in the distance, apparently defending the tribal base. Some humans were working at the fields, but they fled towards the wall the moment they noticed a couple of armored adventures. Not wanting to know what will it come after, Surshana Sisters returned to their camp.
- What else could we do? - Alessia continued the brainstorm as if nothing had happened.
- Since we can't fight them, how about we just sneak behind the walls?
- We can't. At least not me. As my captain once told me : "Paladins couldn't sneak on boulder". And I personally confirmed it. Twice.
- You mean you try and fail sneaking on some boulder? - Themis frowned.
- Well, the first one was Earth Elemental on my Gold exam. According to our scout even drunk ogre should have been able to walk past it, unless he trips over it. But the moment I place my foot in the room it rushed straight at me.
- Did you forget to crouch?
- Of course not! It didnt help! But the second was an actual boulder. I squat down to it, give it a good smack with my war hammer and I'm one hundred percent sure that there were no bonus damage at all. The boulder itself appear to be entirely unsurpriced, that smug bastard!
- ...Right. So we can't sneak. Too bad Sensay had different mission for Merry.
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.
- I think we should come in the open anyway. Presumably they won't attack us, so we just need some reason to justify us into the walls. We could plan our next step from there.
- Lets try talking to the humans working the fields. Maybe they won't run away tomorrow? And if they do we could try without our armor next time.
The next day the aforementioned humans, in fact, didn't run away. But the moment Surshana Sisters come in close dozens of goblins emerged from workers shadows. All of them were wearing red caps and armed with scythes but clearly they come not for haymaking.
- Greetings, travelers! - one of them made a step forward and spoken in clear language - What brings you to Carne Town?
- Carne Town... - Alessia frowned - W-we have some business in it.
- Business. I see. Could you be so kind and come with us, to explain what "business" brought you here - through the forest even and not by road.
Surshana Sisters look at each other before nodding silently. They followed after the speaker with the rest of the goblins creating something uncomfortably similar to prison formation.
"What should we do now?" - Themis silently cast "Message" spell.
"I think I got a plan. Just follow my lead."
They came under the wall and circle it to a small cabin near the gates. Some sort of red flags were hanging above them but no details could be seen from their perspective. Interior of the cabin was dark and empty. Only small candle were lighting square table with a couple of chairs on one side.
- Sit down, please.
Adventures complied. One of Red Caps stood at the table across of them.
- So. Speak. Who are you? Why are here?
- We are Orichalcum adventures of Sorcerous Kingdom, Surshana Sister. - Alessia fished out her plate - We came to offer a small contract to a famous alchemist, mister Bareare.
This statement made a wondrous effect. Goblins looked at each other with an unreadable expression.
- Please wait a moment. - one of them left.
- Do you want refreshments? Maybe some sweets? - Red Caps suddenly exuded hospitality.
- Um, no thanks, we're good.
"What's happening?"
"Surshana pelvis knows."
"Didn't you have a plan?"
"The plan was to let us in by mentioning someone from inside, since we work for the government and, presumably, this is government facility."
"How did you know it?"
"The goblin said this is Carne Town. And on the backside of the label on this weird "Bareare's Mix" potion were mentioned that it was "made and bottled in a state secret alchemical facility of Carne""
"Is it really written exactly like that?"
"Ai. Probably some Elder Lich - administrator doing. You know they tend to be overly straightforward."
"That's true. I guess we can't do nothing but wait and see what was this all about."
An hour later they were invited outside to be greeted by a frail, sickly-pale youth with a pot-haircut. Without further ado they were put on a wagon in the place of a coachman and battered horse set off on its own.
The goblins looked after them with their relieved glances. Not even a minute passed as the young man snored in the back of a wagon.
"Whatever just happened, apparently your plan failed. We clearly not inside nor gonna be anytime soon."
"Ai. Hopefully we could get some relevant information from this fellow"
- Congratulations!
Sudden voise made both Sisters jump off the wagon, taking a fighting stance. The horse continued its unhurried step as if nothing had happened.
Lupus Regina Beta were sitting on coachbench right between their seats with a smug look.
- You successfully rescue the VIP. Poor fella was on the verge of death by overworking, overdosing and overloving. It was clear to everyone around except himself and his sincerely loving wife, apparently-su.
Good job, good job! Drop him at "Golden Pavilion", the stuff will know what to do from there. As a reward for finishing job way ahead of a deadline your next mission will consist nothing but a fair combat, so your soft human brain could stay off, just the way you like it-su!
Adventures watched her with empty eyes.
- Ara-ara - Lupus Regina jumped of the wagon, slowly came to Themis and waved a hand in front of her face. Themis didn't react.
- Such diligent pupils! - Lupu-Sensay exhaled admiringly - To think they would so literally follow my commands! Truly Lord Mare bestowed me with wonderful toys!
