"As you can see the first servers will go live at midnight tonight. The first beta testers where informed only hours ago."

Dan continued to watch the reporter remark on the same news for about the fiftieth time in the last 3 hours since he woke up. it was understandable though. O.M.R industries, a relatively unknown company had come out of no where and released the first ever Virtual Reality game.

And not one of those pieces of head gear with a screens on the inside. No this was a true virtual reality, fully immersive with a "pod" capable of sending and reading the electrical signals sent by the brain allowing a person the literally enter a new reality. The facilities allowing a person to stay in the pods almost indefinitely with better medical capabilities than the entirety of most hospitals. along with the 12 times time compression in game allowed people to digitally experience years in the space of a few months.

Yes the game was gearing up to be the biggest greatest thing since pie. but none of that mattered to Dan.

He turned he's head to see the nurse come in and take he's blood pressure. She avoided making eye contact with him as best she could and left as quickly as possible without saying a word. Dan knew why, his looks made the most hardcore horror fans cringe. Dan remembered when he had first arrived here nearly 5 years ago.

He only had fleeting memories of the event and those he had consisted only of the searing pain. When he had finally regained consciousness he had been in the hospital for almost 3 weeks. the car he was in was had apparently been in a 3 car pile up with Dan been the only one lucky enough to survive. lucky been extremely relative with Dan suffering third degree burns to almost 75% of his body.

The only reason he had managed to survive the last 5 years was because of the life insurance policy that had been paid when both his parents had died had allowed him to continue to pay his medical bills and finally get him a permanent slot in the burns ward. The problem been that he only had enough money to allow him to have the most basic medical support and was insufficient for the skin graft that he had desperately required. So over the last 5 years Dan had grown used to the looks of disgust and horror when people saw him.

He was stirred from his day dreaming when a young man in a suit stepped into his room followed closely behind by an incredibly attractive blond.

The young woman stood almost rooted in spot when she finally saw what was laying on the bed in the room. Her face almost green as she had to cover her mouth and immediately look away to prevent her self from been sick.

Dan was used to it, having seen it multiple times over the last few years. But when he turned to look at the young man that had entered first it was his turned to be surprised. The young man was looking straight at Dan with a slight smile on his face.

"Hello Dan my name is Simon Waters, it's a pleasure to finally meet you." The man said, the smile never once leaving his face.

Dan was so surprised by the man's relaxed and genuine demeanor that he could only meekly nod in response.

"ha ha, well you probably want to know why I am here" Simon replied with a slight chuckle.

"Well I am one of the members of the Board for O.M.R industries. We have selected you take part in the Beta testing of our new game along side the other 10,000 select members." Simon smile grew in size as he could see the look of shock on the boy face.

"....ahh....what?" Dan finally been able give his first vocal response of the conversation. He couldn't comprehend what was happening. He felt his face muscles contorting in a way that he hadn't felt in years. He smiled.

Apparently it wasn't like it used to be as the woman left the room in a rush making a series of gagging noises. Dan felt his smile start to slip until he looked back at Simon and saw that the man was still staring at him with the same smile on his face.

"I can see you now understand. Well no more time to waste" Simon said excitedly and slapped his hands together.

"I just wanted to stop by and inform you in person before our technicians arrive to install your pod." Before Dan could respond Simon had already left the room.

Dan stared at the now empty doorway before finally falling asleep, the last few minute of excitement having exhausted him.

Dan awoke several hours later to find himself in a strange white expanse, not only that but as he looked around he saw that all of the burn scars that had covered his body where gone. replaced with healthy smooth skin. but this wasn't the biggest surprise, no the biggest shock came that he was standing.

For the last 5 years the only movement he was capable of was moving his head and slight movement of his left arm. Dan was so enraptured in this seemingly impossible situation he almost didn't hear the voice speaking to him.

"Hello and welcome to CONTACT. I have already taken the liberty to do preliminary calibrations and neuro testing and as soon as your ready we can begin character creation.

Hey guys, i know this first chapter started kinda slow and i originally wanted to include a lot more but the initial creation of this chapter wouldn't let me put in the tables for i wanted.

just so you know the following chapter will be a lot larger.
