Chapter 01: Mistake

Chapter 01: Mistake

“I thought that death would be a little bit different than this, shouldn’t I be seeing the pearly gates right now??” The human soul thought while looking around in the blank and featureless room.

"WELCOME TO THE GATES OF REINCARNATION" A loud voice that came from all sides of the room announced. "I hope you will forgive us for the trouble that we put you on human Marcus."

The soul looked around while trying to pinpoint a location from where a voice could be coming from, but all she could see were the white walls surrounding her. "Ah, excuse me?? Marcus??"

"Yes, yes, I know, your death was not pleasant, and I am sorry to inform you that it was also an accident. You were supposed to die in 42 years, 5 months, 2 days, 14 hours and 31 seconds later than when you died" The voice continued to speak while ignoring the questions made by the human soul in the middle of the room.

“I think you made a mistake, I'm not..." She again tried to talk but the mysterious voice again cut her sentence short.

"Also, before you start trying to ask to be resurrected and continuing to live your life, I have to remind you that it would be very strange for your fellow humans if a burnt corpse started to regenerate and act like nothing is wrong, Gods knows how much trouble the last resurrection caused to all of us, with that new cult and all." The voice continued but this time it sounded closer to one of the walls of the room.

"EXCUSE ME, IM TRYING TO EXPLAIN TO YOU THAT...." She spoke.

Before she managed to finish her sentence, a humanoid figure passed through one of the walls holding what appeared to be a small tablet while writing some more notes into it, the creature stopped a couple of feet from the human soul and continued talking.

"Luckily for you your soul was selected to be sent to another world so that you may live the remainder of your life there. We are also going to give you a couple of benefits that may help you improve your life in this new world, you may select...."

The human soul grabbed the shoulders of the humanoid figure and looked into their featureless face. "SHUT THE FUCK UP AND LISTEN" she screamed straight into the creature face. "MY NAME IS NOT MARCUS."

The creature stopped writing on their notepad and seemed to finally face the human soul in the room for the first time. ‘Of course you are Marcus. Now let me resume the explanation of your situation before you rudely interrupt me again’

The human soul released the creature and pointed to her own chest. ‘Look, I don’t know how much you know of human biology and names but usually the name Marcus is not given to a woman’

The humanoid creature stared blankly for a couple of seconds and looked at their tablet, moments later the tablet hit the floor and the creature held their head. "Oh no."

"WAIT HERE AND DONT GO ANYWHERE" The creature said before disappearing through the wall.

"Wait, I could leave if I wanted??" She asked nobody.

The soul just stared at the wall for some time until it became bored, there was nothing in here that she could use to distract herself. The only thing in the room was that tablet that the creature had left in the ground, so she decided to check it.

[Reincarnate Soul]

v342.01.1

“Damn this looks cool. Wait, so this is me?? Why do both of the recommendations are red?? Isn't red a bad color?? Fuck are they punishing me for not being a better person??” The soul started to panic while reading their file.

“Wait I could change my whole life with this thing... Well, next life, I guess. Now let's see what this baby can do” The soul started to change their options. “Damn, so many benefits to choose from and no explanation as to what any of those do... I’ll just go with the Random, what could go wrong right??”

After toying around with the options on the tablet for a while she started to hear voices coming from the walls again, so she decided to hide the tablet behind her back just in time to see two of the creatures pass by the wall right in front of her.

"...and as I said it has never happened before, we do not know how she got in here." The first creature finished their sentence while pointing towards the soul.

"I see, and what happened to the soul that was originally supposed to be in here??" The second creature asked the first while also looking towards the uncomfortable soul in front of them.

"I don’t know... honestly, we have no idea, it is not even in the system the collections department went through their records and the soul is nowhere to be found. It is almost like it never existed. I believe that..." The creature was interrupted mid-sentence by the other creature in the room.

"We should discuss that in another moment, for now we should be talking about this soul over here." The creature pulled a tablet similar to the one the soul was hiding and then started to look through it.

"Hmm seems like you had a short and uneventful life, your karma score is pretty much neutral, and I see no record of tampering with the soul... It is a shame you will be discarded. You could probably have lived a couple more cycles before being transferred to a higher plane. But fear not the process of being discarded is painless and quick so you will not suffer or have any trouble after going through it."

"Wait, discarded?? What do you mean discarded?? Are you guys trying to erase me??" The soul started to back away from the two creatures. "Look you guys don’t need to do that, I can just be reincarnated into some random place and you guys will not have to worry about me."

"I'm sorry child, this is not how we work" One of the creatures said.

"We have rules and regulations that should always be followed, and differently from you lower plane creatures we always follow our rules. But fear not, as I said before the process is painless and quick, we can start and finish it in the blink of an eye. Now Ogliark Mukranel you should deal with this as I have enough paperwork already" The creature said while exiting the room.

"Yes, yes, I know, I will do it, but please do keep it quiet about the whole incident, I do not need another corrective measure passed against me again.... Where did I put my notepad now??" The creature started to look around the room for their tablet.

While the two uncaring creatures discussed what to do with the soul she realized that she would not have any chance of changing their mind and so she decided to do the only thing she imagined she could to save herself, she grabbed the tablet and pressed the red button saying [Reincarnate Soul].

A loading screen showed up in the tablet and an alert came shortly after and a mechanical voice read the message out loud.

[ALERT: Multiple options have not been selected for reincarnation, would you like to set them all to random??]

As soon as the voice finished reading the message both of the creatures turned their attention to the soul at the corner of the room just in time to see the human soul press a button on the tablet and jump through the portal that opened right behind her

The two creatures looked at each other. "Do you think that there are consequences for letting an unregistered soul escape??"

"I don’t know..." The other creature said.

"Do you want to know??"

"No"

"Them I think we should keep silent about what we just saw, and I recommend you erase any and all records of this encounter from the logs, and we will never talk about it ever again. Are we clear??"

"Yes... By the way Ecleriar Hugrid, would you have an extra SRS?? It seems like the human took mine to the mortal plane..."

The silence and the stare the creature called Hugrid gave Mukranel was enough for it to deduce the answer to its own question.

"I'm fucked, aren't I??"

"Yes, definitely fucked"
