Land of the Dead

In a desolate land, where life was non existent, was a long line of muddle headed people. The ground was barren, with a few withered and dried up blades of grass here and there, the sky itself was perpetually grey. This place seemed to not have seen sunlight since the dawn of time and for a good reason, for this place was the Land of Death.

The long line of muddle headed people that stretched over the horizon, were the dead souls. They were all in line for reincarnation and this long line was called the Road of Forgetting. There was no concept of time in this place, so the long queue kept walking forwards until they reached their destination, even in their muddled states, these dead souls knew where to go, when they finally reached their goal, it represented them having forgotten everything about their past life and now, they were ready to be reincarnated again.

In the long line of people, there was a young man in his teens. His blonde hair seemed to slowly move although there was no wind in this place. His azure blue eyes seemed to struggle but for a different reason than for those that were around him. “You shitty Granny, just let me forget, let me start over again….” As he mumbled that under his breath, he looked up. His eyes seemed to peer through the eternally grey sky and lock eyes with someone.

No answer was heard and after a few moments, the young man lowered his head. He let out a deep sigh and silently walked forward. After what seemed like an eternity had passed, he reached in front of a giant gate. This was the Gate of Reincarnation. Once he stepped inside, his Soul would enter a new body and the cycle of Life and Death would continue. As the young man paused in front of the Gate, the rest of the Dead Souls blankly walked forward and entered the Gate.

Having reached here, it meant they had lost all memories of their previous lives and all Karma had been washed from them. The young man glanced up again but soon let out a deep sigh as he walked forward. His eyes were still as clear as the moment he had arrived.

When the young man entered the Gate, high above the clouds, the an old woman was sitting cross legged. Her eyes trembled and slowly opened. With a deep gaze, the old woman let out a deep sigh as a middle aged man in a golden robe appeared next to her.

Neither of them said anything for a while but after a while the middle aged man said, “Your Highness….” However, before he could say more, the old woman glanced at the middle aged man. A few moment later, she said, “He has reached the Ninth Reincarnation. In the history of our Cosmos only eight other people have managed to do that and every one of them is a pillar that lets us keep our heads up among the countless Cosmoses….”

She then trailed off in though and added after a long time, “However, the invasion of the Undying is at hand and every Cosmos is scrambling for their own survival. Since the start of our Epoch, this will be our final war. If we fail, then we will join the Undying as a new Epoch starts and we are banished from these lands. If we manage to withstand the onslaught…..”

With this, the middle aged man also let out a deep sigh as he looked towards the gate with a bit of expectation and a lot of helplessness.
