In a society divided by clouds, one's status is determined by whether they reside above or below. The privileged, floating Exalted ruling through a meritocracy, awarding powers to a few oppressed glooms, beneath the shadowy veil. Yet, danger lurks for all in the form of insidious spiritual parasites.  Amidst the chaos, a young woman ventures from her gloomy existence below to explore life among the Exalted. Hopeful for a better existence, she soon discovers that corruption and wickedness permeates at all heights. As she confronts the harsh reality that neither side offers true salvation.
