I sat there at my desk, only concentrating on fixating my eyes down, until the bell rings. *Ding* *Ding* I grab my stuff and get out, heading for the entrance. I felt relieved to finally be walking outside and getting some fresh air. I walk along the sidewalk, heading to my house which is about a mile away. 5 minutes into the walk and I spot a little girl walking into the road. She is just strolling casually with no concern about the truck looming closer to her like the grim reaper.
I notice no one is even looking her way except one distraught parent frantically screaming for her child. I always wanted to be a hero and do something with my life like I read in comic books. I drop my stuff on the spot and kick it into high gear, sprinting for the girl. Closer, closer, I will my legs to run faster and faster until I’m there. With the adrenaline pumping through my body I realize I can’t save us both, so I make a last ditch effort to shove her out the way.
All I see is nothingness and in some sort of delirious thoughts. I occasionally hear the few jumbled voices but that all skipped by what felt instantaneous. I slowly open my eyes to scope out my surroundings, expecting to be dead. A bright light blinds me temporarily until my eyes readjust to the surroundings. *Beep* *Beep* That annoying sound that I keep hearing is what looks like the device monitoring my heart rate.

I look around to see my Mom sleeping on the chairs next to me, my dad should be doing his job on the computer at home. It looks like I’m in some sort of hospital, further inspecting my arms I see lots of stitches. The sight of my own body being damaged like that increases the beeps in the device until I manage to calm down. Shortly after a nurse walks in and is startled to see me awake, she immediately runs off, probably to the doctor.
I sit there waiting until I see the doctor and nurse come in. My mother wakes up shortly after and starts crying saying, “T-they told me you were probably gonna die!” The doctor just glances at her then sets his vision back to me, clipboard in hand. “Alex I presume? Not that you can talk anyway, you are lucky to be alive.” He coughs, “You were hit by a truck shortly after saving the little girl, she is alive thanks to you.” After hearing that I felt something in my soul that could reach the stars. This feeling was an unstoppable feeling that made me vow to save as many people as I can.
