Chapter 4: Leaving the castle

Chapter 4: Leaving the castle

Stinging, like needles stuck under my fingernails, but couldn't risk my nails ripping through the gloves. Ignore it and move on I tell myself and begin to climb the stairs up. As I walk over to the metal door, I think it is obvious that I'm stronger than before; I mean walking through wooden doors is not the most normal thing to, so can I open this door with force?  I grip the handle, place my shoulder on the door and push with my whole weight behind me. The door frames let out few ringing creaks but otherwise nothing. I try pulling instead and get the same result. For the third try I take little space between us and turn sideways with my shoulder extended and my free arm holding the other in place. As I begin my ram I suddenly remember that one should not try to force a door open with shoulder slam, as it usually results in broken shoulder instead of open door, but I'm too far to stop by force. My shoulder slams into the door and the pain quickly spreads down from my shoulder into the arm causing me to slip-up a little and extend my shoulder slam with a headbutt. That was embarrassing and now my shoulder, head and fingers hurt.

After checking that nothings is broken I reenact how police does it, by taking little room, and placing strong kick with bottom of my foot next to the lock mechanism. The metal bends a little so I keep kicking, till the bolt of the lock has bent out from the door frame. Now there's nothing stopping me from simply opening the door, lucky it wasn't barred with anything or I would be kicking till I'd die. Now that remands me, I was both hungry and thirsty before the change, but now I feel neither. Had the beast eaten something before possession or do I not need to eat anymore?

Walking, walking and more walking. That's pretty much how the next hour or two is spend with no clear objective or way out. I have not met with anybody during my travels nor had I managed to find food or water, not that I needed to. But it is getting bit boring again, well at least the pain has subdued. I decide to check my manicure now that I remember and for both my grimace and joy, the wounds have pretty much healed and the fingernails have somewhat grown back. I don't really feel like doing that again if it resets after few hours, so i decided to ignore it for now and throw away my silken under gloves, being quite nasty with the caked blood and so.

Now that I have rediscovered the meaning of boredom, I begun to search for anything interesting I could find within the many rooms of this mansion or castle. I found exactly nothing, there are no paintings, books or furniture within these rooms or any other rooms except the ones with the wardrobes I visited at the beginning. Just an endless wave of white marble rooms and gray-white stone corridors. Well at least the excessive room to room jumping led me to stair way I've never seen before, so that's something.

Walking the stairs down I came to witness the first interesting sight after the wolf and the orb, two black knights standing in guard of large set of doors. The knights truly were adorned in black from head to toe with western looking full plate armor and large kite shields while their weaponry seems to consist of two bladed battle axes. The shields, while otherwise black were painted with a tapestry worth of symbol of red and white. The symbol wasn't one those simple animal or mythical beast or other existing or nonexistent thing, but a pattern too hard for me to explain. Wait, does the symbol mean that they're not completely black plated or is the shield not part of the set? Not the point.

Having nothing to use as a weapon I simply walked forward, preparing to deal with this as it goes on. You know, the way I have done to this point with not a single mistake made. As the sarcasm was thick enough for me to write in my future best-seller novel as thick enough to cut with a knife, the knights readied their stance as I approached. But when I came to the point of no return, they relaxed their stance and simply moved aside. Well it isn't like they couldn't tell that I've been possessed by whatever thing that wolf was, it did bestow me kinda eye catching appearance. The door opened with a slight push and I was met with image of forest in late midday's sun.

The walk down the bridge those two were guarding was nerve wrecking as I could feel their stares drilling into my back, but I'm out and that's the only thing that matters right now. The fact that those servants of morally challenged side were more than happy to consider me as an ally is bit suspicious, but I don't really stress about that. Then yet again, I don't currently stress about anything, I mean I completely forgot my wounds, hunger and thirst after the transformation. I ignore obviously painful injuries now, I left my cellphone in there during clothes exchange and instead staying inside the rooms with beds ready and supply on clean clothes I just immediately left the premise. I begun wandering with no objective or idea what to do and instead trying to figure anything about the castle, orb, wolf or knights I yet again just kept walking. I didn't even check if the knights could talk and explain to me whats going on, how curious. But I'm not going stress about those things, I just really wanted out of there.

With the sun setting the forest became more and more shaded, but thanks to my new pair of eyes that proved to be of no concern for me. I could see the trail leading away from the castle as easily as during the day. But for some peculiar reason I decided to walk off the trail and head into the forest, something just smells so good I couldn't resist. After walking for while instinct told me to grab a stone from the grounds and throw it with full strength towards my destination. As the stone whistled into a bush, I could hear a faint sound something splattering all over the place and went to check. And what do I see? A rabbit, lying there with a stone implanted on its skull. Yummy. Wait... no, that's disgusting, this isn't me... but I could still take a bite for the travels... But I don't even get hungry... Then yet again leaving it here is such a waste... But it is raw... That's how it should be... As I try to make sense what thought is mine and what is an instinct of the beast I feel something dripping down my jaw... And I enjoy the pleasant taste of fresh meat.
